Sims 2 is the best one.The Sims is fun, but it’s stuck in that isometric, almost dollhouse view. It feels more like managing a system than living in it.The Sims 2 is where everything clicks. Full 3D, actual camera control, and suddenly your Sims feel like people instead of pieces.But more importantly,it keeps all the weird, slightly annoying, sometimes creepy stuff that gives the game personality.Your Sims have memories. Not just stats, but actual events that stick with them, getting cheated on, seeing a ghost, being humiliated and those things matter. They spiral, hold grudges, or just randomly break down because something from days ago is still affecting them. The wants and fears system constantly pulls them in directions you didn’t plan. You’re not fully in control, you’re negotiating with them. Ignore them too long and they’ll have a meltdown, and it doesn’t feel like a mechanic, it feels like a consequence.Then there’s all the unpredictable nonsense:>Burglar shows up at 3am and suddenly your whole house is awake in panic>The social bunny appearing when your Sim is lonely like some cursed hallucination>Repo man taking your stuff because you mismanaged bills>Therapists showing up when things go completely off the rails>Ghosts actually being threatening instead of just decorativeIt’s chaotic in a way that feels intentional, and thats what felt good for Sims.The Sims 3 runs terribly even now, but more importantly it starts sanding off those rough edges. It gives you more control, more convenience, but less friction and that friction was where a lot of the stories came from.The Sims 4 runs well and brings back smaller lots, but it keeps removing anything that might frustrate the player. And in doing that, it removes the unpredictability. Sims stop feeling like messy little people and start feeling like obedient actors waiting for input.
