I don't really know how to put it, but they're mostly just kind of interchangeable. Roxy, for example, is clearly gothic themed, but only because they just slapped a bunch of gothic-themed accessories on her. By comparison, a character like, say, graves from deadlock stands out more to me despite having less design elements overall (though I'm counting all the little trinkets around her neck as one element because they're there to make a skeleton face).
