Wizards, on Orb Ponderment day (May 8th) I know that the event has whole day wizzarding cooperation and no set time. But I'd love to do at least a small actual wizard worlds exploration, show off of things people here made and invite you all to mine wizarding adventure map.

Wizarding adventure map is coming along real nicely I've been making this map past two weeks and enjoying making prefabs and mechanics for it. But also been VERY annoyed and networking issues... It will be ready for friday. But also it will be available to play forever. Now it also has a duel arena!

If you want to implement your avatars, maps, official list of words of power:
flipendo - a light attack/interaction spell
alohomora - the key to all locks
spongify - spell which makes things bouncy
rictusempra - pvp spell to which punches other wizards - primarily for use in duel arena

Wizardtry stuff package(if you want to make your world with the same standard): https://mega.nz/file/b3hi1azR#7149Z7iR1M-hPguOC0q1xLNnpj0F9I-Qrgo4dyPh5oc
Staff of Power (works with wizardry stuff): https://mega.nz/file/fuxWnCCS#3coGzz_L4FqTkaJRb0I8DTvF-4klWNCvbLbGhBTzOuI
Wizardry stuf demo/test world: https://vrchat.com/home/world/wrld_5ddc934c-7e44-4e7d-8441-946efe413394/info
Wizards can test their spells in the demo/test world.

Most likely I will hop on and seek other wizards at around 21:00 CEST (19:00 UTC) on May 8th.

Drama Club trial run || 2nd May : 18:00 UTC

>What is this?
An event to just get on stage and have fun throughout the night.
Mainly seeing if there would be any interest in starting a drama club so everyone feel free to join,
whether that'd be putting yourself out there or just watching from the audience.
>What are the activities
We're going to play some audience anarchy and audience freestyle to get people to feel more comfortable acting on a stage.
Afterwards could have a small talent show/time for a standup routine if anyone wishes to prepare one.
At the end let's hear some beautiful singing with some illegal karaoke
>More accurate schedule
18:00 instance is up
18:15 little starting speech
18:45/50 lates time before moving to AA
20:30 spawning a karaoke portal for those who got tired out.
I'll still be trying to continue on stage aslong as there are others interested

No costume is necessary for this event, feel free to just join with your normal one or a flashy stage one if you have one already prepared.
Get on making that wizard or fitting in a gymoutfit

Played some more of TMNT, it's very clear the game was designed to be played coop and singleplayer was just an afterthought.
Combat is pure wagglan, there is blocking and special attacks and lots of mobility but enemies just swarm you from all directions if you're alone and blocking becomes unreliable, meanwhile just wagglan and jumping around will avoid most damage. Most, not all, solo it's pretty much impossible to not get hit.
It looks really pretty and all the voices are spot on but all levels are basically just series of simple arenas, even boss fights are just arenas.
Bosses are cool until you start fighting them and then you realise it's just more dodge and waggle.
I'm really torn about the game, as a pure VR melee it's mediocre, not terrible but just cookie cutter average, Deadpool was much better game in that regard. But as TMNT game you can tell it's one big love letter to the fans by the fans, the devs just get it, everything that made TMNT so cool when you were kid is there, the graphics, designs, voices, all the little interactions, the way story is delivered.
I have to try coop with some anon if anyone is willing to buy or pirate it but ultimately, you have to be TMNT fan to enjoy this, if you never cared about turtles then this game has nothing to offer.

Is the valve index worth it as my first vr headset at $500? I found a listing near me that looks almost new.
I don't have a facebook account and would rather keep my data out of meta's grubby little fingers. I also don't want a standalone headset and would like one that does at least 120hz.
am I out of luck at the $500-700 price range?
>>
>>565424712
Index is a good $500 purchase, assuming it's in good condition and comes with full bundle of headset, controllers, and lighthouses. Many people use Index up to this day, it's outdated, but it's still a great overall package.
>>
>>565424712
For $500 what you value most from an index kit is the lighthouses that come with it honestly. The index is still a usable headset, I use it today, but it is very old in the tooth. The frame is also coming out this year sometime so that's hard to time. You should consider a PSVR2 as well, that can be good although I hear tracking issues and longevity issues are common
>>
>>565424712
>I don't have a facebook account and would rather keep my data out of meta's grubby little fingers

Once you do the initial setup, you never have to let a Quest talk to the internet again if you don't pass internet from your PC to the dedicated access point you're streaming PCVR to the headset

Also this. You can make a meta account just for the headset completely in a sandboxed environment, get the headset up and running, and then keep the quest firewalled off from meta servers.

>>565425194
the only issue with PSVR2 is I would also need the PS5 and they're going up
>>565425473
that's good to know. Is there any noticeable artifacts when you're streaming through steamlink or virtual desktop? it seems like being connected to the pc with a cable gives the best visuals and performance which is why i'm hesitant to go with standalone headsets
>>
>>565427210
>I would also need the PS5 and they're going up
No you can use it on PCVR now, there's a little adapter box. If it was ps5 only I wouldn't have mentioned it.
>>
>>565427210
If you've got a dedicated router that can handle passing 300+ mbps, the only time you're gonna notice artifacting is if you're taking screenshots of the game to look for them, especially since you'll almost certainly be running subnative if you're trying to push 120hz in anything that has graphics intensive enough that you'd care about artifacting.
>>
>>565427210
The index is better than the vive pro 2. Some people will say otherwise but they don't have an index. People who went index -> vive pro 2 did not like it although he didn't get inserts for some bizarre reason.

>noticeable artifacts when you're streaming through steamlink or virtual desktop?
It depends on your setup and how good your eyesight is and what you're looking at. In general; yes they're noticable. Are they distractingly noticable? Not as much as a low resolution screen usually. With a decent wifi setup (6E, close endpoint) you can get it down to a very capable minimum.
>>
>>565424712
>>565427210
Make sure you're actually getting the full kit and not just the headset. The full kit is with the controllers and two base stations.

>If you've got a dedicated router that can handle passing 300+ mbps
I do have a 6E router but I only have one and it does the traffic for the whole family most of the day. Though I think I could deal with artifacts you're describing. How's the latency when you're sending inputs and playing wirelessly?

>>565428020
I think it is this is the picture in the listing plus some tall tripods for the base stations
>>
>>565428482
DESU you're probably better off going with a PSVR2 like that other anon said.
It would be far cheaper and the display is much better.

The only way the Index bundle would be worth it is if you're sure you want to get fullbody tracking down the line (since base stations are required)
>>
>>565428482
>does the traffic for the whole family most of the day.
If it's not in the same room and it's shared then you should use a dedicated one.

Also for tripods, you're better off using either plaster board props (a type of expandable pole) since they have less floor-coverage and can fit nicer into the corners, or using sticky-camera mounts, using a camera clamp to clamp it to a shelf or curtain rail or something, or drilling a mount if you can.

>>565428814
There's also a day version by the same author. It's decently enough made but the size makes it unweildy
>>
>>565428482
Latency depends on the codec, but h264+ at 300mbps is not significantly worse then wired and largely imperceptible unless you're a rhythm game autist. If you do go with a wireless headset, you should consider ahead of time an additional router, since it's a pretty necessary expense to ensure a smooth connection, but the entire setup is still within your 700 dollar budget. Heavily recommend a Q3, not 3S which is terrible because it has the 2's optic stack; it's easily the best value headset and you couldn't pay me to go back to my Index from my Q3. The HMD's weight, size, and having a cable are all significant downsides, not to mention the screen resolution and edge to edge clarity difference. The only value in the Index kit as shown is the base stations if you're heavily interested in FBT, which is largely only useful in VRChat, but are a part of my Index kit which does still see use alongside the Knuckles for fingertracking.

I was thinking the same thing I didn't realize they had a way to connect it to pcvr now. Honestly I'm not opposed to full body tracking down the line. All the components for the valve index can be mix and matched with other headsets right? I really like the finger tracking of the index controllers

Thanks anons you gave me a lot to think about. I'm leaning a little more towards getting a different headset. I'll do some research and see where I land.

Yes, you just slot in a new headset to your existing wireless setup. The only caveat to that is the Frame is coming with a dongle that'll be a better access point for the headset then a router, so it's an unnecessary expense for the Frame that'll have the cost of it baked into the price of the headset.

If you want to just dip your toes in for minimal money, a used Q2 can be found for 150ish bucks and then resold for a similar amount if you either like it and want to upgrade or don't like it and want your money back. Q3 is significantly better visually, but the base experience is similar enough that you'll be able to find out if you'll enjoy it or not, and you can order a router through Amazon and just return it if you decide not to move forward for whatever reason.
>>
>>565423958
As far as I remember the AP percentage is the chance you do any damage at all and +P is generally better.
>>
>>565429256
>All the components for the valve index can be mix and matched with other headsets right? I really like the finger tracking of the index controllers
uhhhhh
Yes but also no. In practice yes so long as you slap a tracker on it and they're like $120.
Bringing something into the lighthouse system requires it to be able to read the lighthouse lasers and that's not something that headsets support natively because its an extra $50-70 of electronics that wont be used by most people. Headsets usually have their own 'playspace' that they keep track of with their own cameras. Camera playspaces between brands are definitely not inter compatible at all and there's nothing you can do at all, so lighthouses are the the "You can at least if you want" compatibility.
So yes lighthouses are the most inter-system capable but only because you can slap a tracker on something to bring it into that system.

If it can be pushed into a low latency foveated encoding pipeline I think it's probably the best thing ever, since it turns the quest 3 into a next gen headset.
>>
>>565428482

Wifi connected headsets nowadays have around 70-80 ms of motion to photon latency (from controler movement start to reaction on screen) some anons made a VRCHAT world to test it and have been testing different headsets meticulously. It was way worse, reaching 120+ at high bitrates, but ALVR and Steamlink software has been converging on 80 ms this year. The longest time taken by decode on the headset (if your network setup is good).

Display port/HDMI wired headsets are around 40-50 ms. But that being said, its still totally acceptable, VR tech uses tonnes of extrapolation, compensation and prediction, so movement after initial jerk gets where in needs to and feels instant and responsive.

Sadly compressed video, even at 300 megabits will fail you at realistic foliage type scenes or when there is a lot of particles moving. Its fine for animesque vrchat, but any foliage or grass will turn into a mush at even 300 megabits full screen video. The solution is eyetracking and foveated encoding, thats why Steam Frame is so desirable. Foveated encoding puts most of the bitrate where youre actually looking at, eliminating compression artifacts almost entirely.

You'll hear a lot of voices saying that foveationless compression is fine and acceptable, but you must know, that most people nowadays have never seen uncompressed display port vr video link, most people start at quest line.

Anyway, if you plan looking at realistic scenes with a lot of movement, foliage or play rally games, you should try getting psvr2 with a discount and waiting for frame with that (you will need replacement eventually because psvr2 cable is not replaceable and vr cables WILL BREAK eventually, after a year or two if you are careful).

If you find it acceptable that youll have some blurriness in grass and foliage, Quest 3 is an extremely good headset. If you really want to avoid Meta, you can get Pico 4 or Pico 4 ultra. Pico 4 is Chinese quest basically, bit cheaper but as good for PCVR

Kinda old crop of Steam VR Link image at highest bitrate settings on Pico 4. Screenshotted using headset screenshotting tool. SteamLink always runs foveated, but without eyetracking the foveation window is always at the middle. If you reduce the foveated windows to very small size, the mushiness in the grass tufts disappear, ashpalt regains texture, but of course, without eyetracking the foveation window in the middle is very small, and everything outside of it is very blurry, making the headset unusable in this mode, but this alone makes me accept that Steam Frame will be free of compression issues. Adding to that is the dual wifi stack for less interruptions and stronger SoC than Pico or Quest for better decoding performance, I think Steam Frame, and other properly eyetracked headsets will be as good as Display Port linked ones visual wise.
>>
>>565435289

That index for 500 bucks might still be the best bang for the buck honestly, although a bit blurry. Ask them about stick drift and when they replaced the sticks last time. Index controller is notorious for stick drift after like a year and you need to resolder the potentiometer part (which is doable and the part is cheap but it's PAIN IN THE ASS TO DESOLDER)
>>
>>565435289
I haven't played any sim racing games since foveated encoding was added to VD, though I agree the difference is big. Worlds with sharp contrast in VRChat come through a lot clearer with foveated encoding.

>>
>>565435808
I have desoldered the sticks like... 6 times now. I recommend just buying the replacement part, pulling the board out, and taking the replacement and board to a electronics repair place for them to swap it for you. It'll take them 5 minutes, but when I do it, it takes an hour or so. I've actually gotten much better at it and most of my problesm were because the iron was set too low. If you use flux, a hot enough iron, and desoldering wick you can pull the sticks out. I pull them out 'hot', as in I get some of the legs hot all at once, then wiggle that out a bit. Then switch to legs somewhere else, until I slowly wiggle it out. Then I clean the pads with some flux and desolder wick, and for the first time you will want to add some lower temp solder as you're working to make it flow easier into your wick. Rubbing hot fluxed wick over a via hole will clear it out most of the time. Then when clear, slot in the new one and just do a 20 second solder back in.

This is exactly what I was looking for thank you anon. I think I'll stick with a wired solution and the psvr is looking really good but Knuckle controllers look so good. I think it's between the Valve Index and the PSVR for me right now. I do think I would rather have tracking done with the base stations. I'm definitely going to do a little bit more research.

The index is a worse screen and visuals than the psvr2, but you get better tracking, better audio, good FoV, and a system that just werks on the software level.
If you want a frictionless experience at the cost of screen quality it's a good option still. Until the frame anyway.
>>
>>565410297
They aren't really comparable avatars anon, that's like comparing Chiffon and Kikyo.
>>
>>565410327
It's just Mr.Pink and Tori that make avatars in their own styles that are divergent from most japslop. Personally I think Velle is great baseline but most people barely modify her while Uruki and this new one are kinda meh baseline but I've seen some pretty decent Urukis so I have hopes for the angel too.
>>
>>565438861
>Knuckle controllers look so good
Honestly, they are good if they are good for you. If you have sweaty palms, it'll get stuck with false grab detections, stick WILL break and you WILL have to replace it. Finger tracking is not as reliable as we'd like. But when they work for you, it's fucking amazing.
Base station tracking is still king for tracking volume size and accuracy. But for shooter games, and interactions where you can see your hand (or almost see them) camera tracking is ok.
Overall headset positioning done by cameras and by lighthouse is on par nowadays, they are both perfectly good. Controllers, well, camera has obvious limitations of: not being able to put your hands behind your back (it tracks for short time on dead reconing but quickly stops), bringing controllers close to your face - possible tracking loss (when aiming carefully, when using bows), obscuring one hand behind another is mostly fixed problem.
The most annoying part of camera tracking for me is loosing the natural pool cueing stance, you kinda need to use the pool cue as a shotgun and t-rex it.
>>
>>565439197
Mr Pink has severe same face syndrome.
Uruki was a downgrade in quality, I can only assume that the new slop will be even inferior.
>>
Finally I can go from being told "Is that the new Mr. Pink? I liked Velle, Uruki is just whatever" to "Is that the new Mr. Pink? I liked Velle, Euphorika is just whatever" when people see my avatar.

Just played a few hours of Turtles game in coop with a friend. Pretty fun. The initial tutorial is lenghty, but very speedrunnable. The progress in missions etc seems to contribute only to host, but the hosting system is very thread friendly - you can just drop a lobby code in the thread.

Coop with 4 turtles, decent voice chat. Comabat can be waggle'ish if you wand or you can actually parry and fight like a decent being. There is a few decent sized openworld maps with random side quests and things to unlock/challenges to complete and a main story line with custom levels sprinkled in. Seem like main loop aside the story is hanging around in city, fighting crime and doing challenges. Seems like a good time. Very stylish graphics and VERY TURTLE voice lines.
