Sure, there's the "muh rayshift compatibility" but with HGW the servants you encounter are just way weaker and guda gets multiple servants while your average master might struggle with just Mash.So it's the design difference between an HGW servant (classically underpowered) and a servant that was designed for FGO. There's also other ways in which servants are balanced in addition to just NP strength and stats. Firstly, as an extra class, a guy like John just outright is banned from most HGWs. Notice how a lot of FGO servants are stuck in extra class or they're some kind of beast or are an LB character, and thus can't be summoned outright, so your options for summoning are extremely piddly. Secondly, fame bonus / territory advantage, personality and mana drain is also a consideration. If I was a betting person, I'd say that John is extremely expensive mana wise and that's why Narita has specifically enumerated how many mana sources he came with. Plus a normal summon wouldn't come with the armour.
