dumb stupid mob
>thread ded>againVanillabros... can we even survive the next create addon...
>>565815852No, it's over.
We died in the middle of update pre-release period. I was trying to start a discussion and other anon was posting his resource pack. Despite that, thread died. Grimmi prospects.
Reminder that lst fall Mojang teased that another "in between" dimension exist and that the player and endermen travel through it while teleporting. https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/endermite
Any of you homosexuals tell me how do I git gud at world generation datapacks, I would like yo replicate something like this.
>>565816481there wasn’t much to talk about for the snapshot besides geysers, they have the potential to be game changing but mojang needs to add a way to control them first
>>565815852>mojang releases scrimblo mob specifically for minigames>everyone shits on it for being irrelevant to normal gameplay>meanwhile the usual minigame/redstone tubers have either been radio silent or they’re playing create mod *cough*gerg*cough*>all the actual fun stuff people are doing with sulfur cubes (ziplines, monorails, tnt canons) are things mojang either didn’t intend or only added after player feedbacknujangbros, this is embarrassing…
I’ve been thinking about world gen a lot lately. Minecraft’s features use a 2 layer system: one that involves immediate neighboring chunks to handle small features like trees, and one for large structures that span multiple chunks like villages and dungeons although I’m not totally sure how the latter works besides storing structures in pieces. Minetest/Luanti generates chunks in 5x5x5 sections which is very effective and simple but large structures like villages are limited to that 80x80x80 block section. The only way to truly overcome world gen limitations is to pregenerate a world entirely like Terraria where you have access to the complete world context so you can do whatever methods you want.
>>565832650I don't think it generates entire structures in one go
Thoughts on the latest old vs nu minecraft xitter discourse? I get the critique that nu minecraft can lack contrast but also>glowstone and torches lighting up fuck all
>>565819685Just play vanilla and get shaders which don't have bugged lighting.>>565838671It's a disingenuous comparison, not the same world but a recreation, lacking several important details and most importantly the floating tree casting the shadow in main area of the screenshot which makes a huge difference for how whole composition looks, on top of bugged lighting as you pointed out.
>>565832650Villages aren't height limited. There are seeds where one of houses spawns in deepslate while rest of village is on a mountainside.
>>565838671I am neutral, i do like hints of the older world generation here and there, but the old textures weren't always better than what we have now. The colors perhaps can be generic as hell, but the new textures are much better done for the most part.
>>565838671>>565840926The thing these comparisons always miss is that old textures needed high contrast because of how little blocks we had access to. In newer version you're meant to use more than cobble, glass and oak planks. If you do that, the builds will look way better and everyone playing beta 15 years ago would have agreed.
>>565841238Dunno i play with thishttps://www.planetminecraft.com/texture-pack/kittytweaks/IMO is a good middle point, except that i have a personal preference for alpha lava, but that's me. I like its volcanic look.
>>565838671I don't do twitter, so I have no idea what "the latest discourse" is, but imo the new textures are great for the hyper realistic building style that everyone uses now with gradients/shading/etc., but with the old textures you could build something simple like your screenshot and it would look good. If you build something like that with the modern textures/terrain, it would look terrible. I think the old world gen is just straight up better than the modern world gen though
>>565838671I love old map gen. Something about modern's maps feels lacking
>>565844790Nah, I think the new textures are fine for the "cobble and oak" building style, just look at villages. No need for block vomit.
>>565838671It merely exposes the change in art direction in the game over the past 16 years. There’s nothing inherently wrong with the new one outside of being soulless.
>>565817216No they didn't. Those blogposts don't have hints for future updates, no matter how much people hope they do. It's just a collection of trivia. Any lore not explicitly in the main game is not canon, they want you to make your own lore and the devs have their own headcanons. This doesn't hold up with chorus fruits, anyway.
>>565838671I agree with the argument that older minecraft had better overall aesthetics but some people are just being disingenuous like yeah some people were posting inaccurate recreations or not on moody lighting which makes everything look brighter. In my personal pack I try to find "modernized" versions of classic textures as a sort of middle ground.>>565840926>>565841238>>565842029>>565848525I think new textures are better like in terms of objective artistic merit but some of them took away a lot of the character the older texture had when they were updated. It's kinda funny though as just a few years ago the majority of this general was against Jappa textures almost entirely.
>>565856362
older = bettersimple as
>>565838671The discourse is simply a symptom of the game’s much larger lurking problems. As some of the replies pointed out you can trivially recreate the beta look, but the thing is the game fundamentally played different back then. There were also tweets about old ocean gen today.
>>565856362>It's kinda funny though as just a few years ago the majority of this general was against Jappa textures almost entirely.I still think the Jappa textures are shit, but it's an unpopular opinion among the bedrock kiddies that populate this general
I was thinking to myself there should be a Mine cart update. And someone on twitter today pointed out how elytras killed mine carts as a transportation method. But even ignoring that there’s the whole mining utilization thing. Mine carts are probably one of the biggest what ifs of this game.
Do we have the technology to prompt an AI for Minecraft builds yet? It would be cool if I could generate a building like that. Damn I'm so lazy.
>>565870750I tried osu but the builds are like a baby playing with duplo
>>565873507Hmm I guess I'll wait a decade for the technology to improve.
>>565838671The textures/lightning are taste thing I'm neutral onbut like others said, the old world gen is just more interesting. You'd get a lot of cool landscapes in general, whether it's from being buggy or not. Now everything is all too similar. Like cherry forests being hardcoded into forming rings in a mountain basin You'd never find something like image related in modern world gen. Stuff like this is cool enough to make you set up your base there. Modern gen being so similar means YOU have to be the one finding inspiration to build there, not the game giving you options
>>565838671Thoughts on this discourse?Which do you think is better.
>>565875795I just don't want large oceans. It really sucked when you spawned in one with no trees. Badlands has the same issue now.
>>565875795Old oceans were too big and existed at a time when oceans had literally no content. 1.7.2 overcorrected by turning oceans into inland seas.I think a happy middle-ground could be found now-a-days. Even just something like connecting the season some without drastically increasing the size of oceans would do wonders.I think something that would help oceans feel more worth it is if Mojang also added some island biomes and proper island generation. Like tropical islands, volcanic islands, etc.Like oceans have content now-a-days. Coral reefs, ocean ruins, monuments, shipwrecks, mobs, etc. But some island biomes would do nicely
>>565875795Old gen was better. Sure the oceans were probably too big but they obviously toned it down way too much.
>>565875795I liked the old oceans. Sue me. The thing the left did much better was isolation and scale. Right is all artificial fun, you’re hardcoded to find a point of interest every 100 blocks or so. It’s just shit. It ruins exploration.
>>565877308It felt more natural too. I want occasional randomness, tossed into a hostile and barren landscape. Maybe not have everything laid out in a predictable manner. Instead, they built the world centered around the player, comfortably fitting in all their needs and ensuring all of their objectives are within reach. As a result becomes repetitive.
>>565879468I remember feeling pretty hype when villages were rare even though they were just decoration at that point. But nowadays it seems they’re everywhere.
Speaking about biome genIn a post caves and cliffs world. Do you prefer default or large biomes for world gen? Or do you live by amplified instead?
It honestly sucks you have to mod the game to have Lithosphere to have the deep vast oceans back.
Did not like the ocean update. Did not like the caves and cliffs updates. Nether update was okay.
>>565866118Those weirdly big oceans were only in the game for a couple of updates, and oceans now already feel very vast if you don't look at a map or have a render distance mod. If they make oceans bigger, they need to let you build bigger boats and give you a reason to explore other continents.
>>565870750Last time I've seen something it was just normal 3D model generation then voxelized and turned to minecraft blocks, so it sucks. I'm surprised, since there is a ton of training data in the form of map downloads on the internet, so it shouldn't be too hard to make an AI for that, but I guess nobody has bothered. Maybe it also needs an AI to look at and categorize every build.
I think this drop will be feature complete either today or next week
Did Hytale kill minecraft yet?
>>565904051two more weeks
>>565866118This is completely retarded revisionism, oceans had absolutely nothing on them back then you jut plopped a door when you needed to quarry gravel and forget about them for the rest of the world's duration. Even now, oceans are barren as fuck, who the hell would like them to be like before? At least you can mine on them now.
>still no ender dwarf
https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/minecraft-26-2-snapshot-6New snapshot, new slow bouncing archetype, sulfur cubes with magma blocks deal damage on contact, surface sulfur springs are redesigned, granite/tuff removed from sulfur caves, the drop is now feature complete
>>565910105Do hot sulfur cubes ignite tnt sulfur cubes? I was surprised that magma ignites them, but that would explain that better. They also fixed them not being ignited by fire aspect.
>>565910105okay these look pretty good, all I really need them to do now is tweak geysers so they immediately erupt after placing the magma block, that way we can control them
>>565910105>the drop is now feature completejesus fucking christ, mojang. really? no redstone controller geysers? no craftable gunpowder? no quick oxidizing copper with sulfur? NOTHING INTERESTING FOR SINGLEPLAYER??
>>565912891controlled*
>>565912891>no redstone controller geysersMaking geyser’s redstone controllable is as simple as skipping the cooldown before the first eruption, then all you need is a piston to push/pull a magma block. This amounts to a minor technical change rather than a new feature outright, so there’s still plenty of time for them to do it
Maincrah
>>565911831Looks like a blister that popped ewww
>>565911831impressive. they made them look even worse
/mmcg/fag here. I just popped in to say, sucks to suck. Rid yourself of modern and come hang with comfy and genuinely fun gameplay.
>>565911831>doesn't use sulfur cave biome waterwhat an absolute fucking disaster
>>565910105>>565911831>granite/tuff removed from sulfur caves>granite/tuff added to surface springs??
>>565923850I'll keep playing modern and will do it in whatever thread is up. There's more than enough content in base game and more than enough mods for each new version.
Is there anything you can "brick" or permanently ruin in your minecraft world?I used to think breaking the silverfish spawner at the stronghold was, but now we have infesting potions if you wanted to use silverfish for something. I'm wondering if there's anything like that which can still ruin your world
>>565926639somehow my friend and I fucked up our 5 year old world by losing the latest file and loading a backup in a new version. The spawn area is now bugged and there are patches of chunks of both ice spikes (original spawn biome) and not-frozen ocean
>>565927080Couldn't you world edit the biomes to "fix" it? If the spikes remains you could build over them with grass or whatever the original biome was. I'm not too similar with world edit to know how that works tho
>>565927507probably not as it's on my friend's xbox on bugrock lol
>>565923850I'll keep playing in my vanilla 1.12.2 and April Fools worlds, thank you very much. I may try out modded if I ever run out of things to do in my worlds (highly unlikely)
>>565927752Ahh damn..something like world corruption I would've tried to fix but you couldn't there
>>565926639not really anymore, at worst you may have to explore out a couple more hundred/thousand blocks to find another of whatever you "ruined", but every structure is pretty infinitely generating now. I think there is still a limit on the number of strongeholds in your world, so theoretically you could break all the end portals, so you wouldn't be able to access the end, but I think the limit is somewhere in the thousands. it's not like the old days where there were only three
>>565928518nevermind, I just looked it up and apparently there are only 128 strongholds now, so it'd be easier to brick than I thought. you would still need to travel to 128 different strongholds, but that's much less work than I thought. I guess destroying the dragon egg is another thing you could brick since there is only one (or two if you started your world pre 1.9) without duplicating it. though I think there are ways to trick the game into thinking you are fighting the dragon for the first time again, so that would generate a new dragon egg
>>565929227another thought, I'm not sure what would happen if you removed every block in your world spawn radius, including bedrock, and then died with no bed, but that could potentially create some strange behavior where you can't respawn or something
Will YUNG update his mods to newer versions?
>>565928518>>565929227I guess it really just is stronghold related stuff as they're finite huh.. I'm used to there only being 3 as well which is why I thought the silverfish spawner was rare before >>565930480I wouldn't intentionally try and brick the game, I'm sure you could break the world with lag machines and stuff too. I was just thinking about normal things you'd do like breaking a spawner only to realize there's only 3 of them in the world. The dragon egg seems like the main big one you can lose out on being careless. Though I imagine when they eventually update the end they would make that obtainable again for people who lost it
>>565934718another thing you could do in older versions is chunk overpopulation where you would put so much data in a single chunk that it would go over the file size limit for a chunk, causing the chunk to "reset", going back to how it was at world generation. this could only really be done on purpose by using written books with a bunch of characters that take up more space (usually chinese characters I think), but I guess theoretically you might be able to do that on accident. that has been patched though. I'm pretty sure the file size limit for single chunks has been raised tremendously, to the point it's practically impossible to go over that limit
found a mushroom island in the bugged ice spikes so I made a home, what do you think
>>565944697I like it
blub will save us, surely…
>no crafting recipe for gunpowder using sulfur or sulfur spikesgenuinely why? balancing?
>>565962219because nujang is retarded and lazy
>>565831224just give me better minecarts you fucks, is that simple
>>565962952Mojang just doesn’t know what the player base actually wants, and this drop made that really apparent with how it feels like we’ve had to tard wrangle the devs/artists to get something remotely similar to what we expected
>>565875795So it wasnt just me. It was so difficult in my world to find truly deep ocean for some reason, I wanted to build an underwater house
>>565964687you will get your quirky marketable chungus mob and you WILL like it!
>>565831224It turns out nobody used the armadillo as a tennis ball beforeand nobody wanted a slime to do it nowAfter a streak of mid patches we're wasting another 4+ months on another filler update >Sentient cauldron mememob patch later this year>Nothing big like an end update And people will defend these patches because they're DEFINITELY doing behind the scene optimization!!
>>565984824>they're DEFINITELY doing behind the scene optimization!!well yes they are but that doesn’t excuse them making these shallow updates
Now this is a real ocean. 1.20.4, with Lithosphere and Distant Horizons set at 512 chunk render.
Idea: Blue Spruce, with light blue wood.
>>565987995Do people want realism in their Minecraft game? I don't think spending a week to cross an ocean in real time sounds fun.
>>565989197Criminal how there's no "magical" forest biome yet with blue trees and grass. I was thinking about this the other day how you can't really make a magical forest in vanilla because there's no blue grass biome. They added an edgy pale forest biome before this..Like why are mojang so deathly afraid of making blue blocks I don't get it
>>565989997The idea of a daunting voyage through an ocean you can't guarantee will ever end is at least what I used to like about it. If the concept of survival wasn't hand waved away so early in MC's development I could see proper oceans & isolated continents/islands having a great spot in the game
>>565989997Yes I liked exploration, I enjoyed the idea of crossing vast oceans to visit another continent, managing to find some small islands to take a break and set up a small outpost to get a rest and make some food.
>>565996419I don't
>>565998745Then Minceraft isn't for you.
>>565996201It's just not fun, the games are meant to be fun.>>565998881Wrong. You're the one who should look elsewhere. You don't want a game, you want some autistic simulator.
>>565995731I grew to hate nether update solely because those retards probably think nether wood is close enough to blue color. It isn't.
>>566004509Wrong again cunt. I never said simulator, you are just making shit up.Minecraft was always about exploration and it nailed the isolated feeling. Early MC was great at that, it actually felt amazing to stuble upon a structure or village. Now it's all atrifical slop thanks to you tourist faggots who constantly scream "ugh traversing 500 blocks is a chore" so now we have Minecraft where it's hardcoded to have a point of interest every 100 blocks and all the player ever needs within a 1000 blocks. Whats the point of almost infinite worlds if you are just never going to walk more than 1000 blocks. That was MC's big selling point back in the day. People on consoles when it was Xbox 360 etc begged for those infinite worlds. Maybe terraria is more your thing.
>>566004885>buzzword meltdown and lots of strawmenKill yourself retard.Spending an hour sailing and seeing nothing simply isn't fun. There's no exploration to it, delusional faggot. It's just tedium.>where it's hardcoded to have a point of interest every 100 blocksOh, you're that cretin. Get a tripcode so I can filter you. You're already as obnoxious as average tripfag with your repetitive nonsensical posts and refusal to adjust the false narrative after being proven wrong multiple times.>if you are just never going to walk more than 1000 blocksThat's your retarded ass problem. Other people do it often.>That was MC's big selling point back in the day.Minecraft world was limited in early days you stupid newfag. You're just a dumb kid who started playing actively with big ocean and think that's the best because you stockholmed yourself into thinking that was peak minecraft.
Reminder that big oceans weren't even intended but merely a world generation bug and that's why they got removed after a couple of versions when devs figured out how to fix that shit.If you like them, you do not belong in this community. Go make your own forum dedicated to playing some barren old version instead of attacking people who play the actual game.
>>566005195Minecraft had the huge worlds since infdev you retarded tourist.

Early MC was great at that, it actually felt amazing to stuble upon a structure or village.early minecraft didn't have structures or villages. just dungeons. you didn't play early minecraft. minecraft is not about exploration. it's a lite survival sandbox where you make your own fun. if your fun comes from exploring, then great, but that's not going to be where everyone derives their fun from. I agree with you that modern minecraft is too cluttered, but I don't think it should take hours to traverse an ocean. maybe like 20 minutes max
>>566005514>get exposed as a newfag>call other person 'tourist'Get a trip, obnoxious faggot. Your attempts at "no u" are nonsensical. There's zero logic to your rambling.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irE4tcDtUIgThis uses revolutionary terrain generation technology I haven't seen in any other mod yet. Worth checking out.Not something that can be used for a playthrough at all, especially with the current limitations like lack of water, but it has incredible potential as it gets developed further.
>>566007662Don't post that here, the people scared of going more than 100 blocks in any direction will piss their pants.
Does anyone have an aesthetic build for a sugarcane farm? It doesn't have to be functional, only decorative. With the water requirement I can only think of crosses or lanes and they both look stupid to me.
>>565986054They've been optimizing this game for 10 years.
>>566009920Retard, I disagree with you. The difference is, I'm not a tribalistic nigger and can use my brain. It's like you failed to read the last line properly.
>>566012826If you want something aesthetic with sugarcane then you're going to have to manually collect it, some things just can't look good and function at the same time
>>566022623I'm not going to collect it at all, like said I'm just looking for something decorative.
this thread needs more enderman
>enderman>no startermancome on mojang, step it up
>>565856362I'm more or less ambivalent to them, but nowadays there are too many new blocks that only fit with them compared to the old style, that you can't really go back.
>>565882451These days they've introduced more sub biomes, so I like them smaller if anything.
>>565882451Is amplified a better experience? Never played on that mode seriously
>>566007662Would probably make that Create Aeronautics mod useful. The unfortunate thing though, is that the terrain is pretty boring in terms of giving you fantastical locations.
