A human in a turban or a suit tells you a little bit about who they are. In IDW you will see a a rat wearing a skull themed outfit just because it looks cool and it tells you nothing about the location. In Sonic Adventure, 06, and Sonic Unleashed the designs of the background characters tells you a little bit about this setting. Ever notice that almost all of the adult humans in station square are in uniform? It's a busy city where people go to work or gamble and is clearly inspired by japan since the children are also in uniform.You don't get any of that in IDW, just a rainbow of random colored OCs wearing pokemon trainer outfits. IDW has no world building aside from constantly reminding you about the restoration. Even Archie was able to world build properly.

Has anyone else noticed that in heavily mandated situations blobians are not that diverse? In the games, Echidnas are all on the hot side of the color spectrum. Red, Orange, maybe pink depending on if you think that's war paint.In Sonic Prime all of the background OC cats resemble Blaze. Blaze is purple, Big is purple. Every canon cat character is purple except Honey. If Shade had been canon, then all female echidnas would be orange. When Trip's people finally appear, they are all the exact same design as her but with different heights. Hedgehogs stand out, but we never see civilian hedgehogs in a Sonic game. The only two foxes we see aside from Tails are still brown/orangeThe only hawk we see aside from Jet is also green (probably Jet's father) In the original Sonic manga, Sonic's entire family and presumably all hedgehogs are blue or yellow with the exception of Amy.
