Day 8 of working on the tutorial. I think I'll finish it today and then find someone who doesn't play games to try to play through it and see where I fucked up. Where do you find people who don't play games in this day and age?
145 days left. I owe 15 hours to my game. I passed 1200 hours of work on it yesterday and it needs another 600 at the least. If it ends up earning me ten cents an hour, it'll be disappointing but not surprising.

I finished up my out of bounds area and also started adding trees.
IDK if this is the correct way to do trees but hey.
I also fully intend to add a black all-surrounding background past a certain distance with said trees so I don't have to put trees literally everywhere.
Magic tricks, as they always say.
I've also been trying to refine my combat momentum. For the most part. It's KINDA worked, but IDK what else I can do.

Asset packs have been heavily stigmatized for the past decade mainly because of Jim Sterling (god rest his soul). If you used any art assets from the store people would accuse you of making an asset flip.
Only now are they not so stigmatized because AI is so much worse. At least store bought assets were made by a real person who was paid for their work.
AI is more like ripping assets from other games. Its theft.

A diverse portfolio of different genre projects from which you have learnt. You should now be able to easily figure out what you're good at and what you're not good at, and in what direction to go with your next game.

They do, sometimes.

The big difference is, if you use asset packs or steal art off of google images, you're still using actual art and at worst you're just commiting an IP offence or making a meme game cobbled together from mismatching assets.
If you use AI art then instead of taking that art off google images you're throwing it through a slop filter and using the eye-straining, half-melted gunk that comes out the other side, and it'll still be cobbled together and mismatching.

Basically. Just steal art or you have no balls.

left is size 1 (if the player is nearly flat)
now that I'm doing size 5, there's no reasonable way I can stretch it to fit without it being just a torn strip so I'm going to reason that two of them get used to make the top, and even then it's a stretch. Thought about adding in a second layer underneath, too.

New to this thread. Here's my work.
No engine, all in C/GLFW3/OpenGL, all my code including shaders and physics.
I have a full time job as a software engineer in a S&P500 company, wife and kids so not much time, doing this mostly for fun.

Project goals:
>Space RPG, asteroid mining, ship scrapping
>Character must eat, drink, sleep, survival mechanics similar to Project Zomboid
>Need to make money to buy food, water etc
>Need to mine, sell at market price, scavenge ship wrecks
>Infinite randomly generated map
>Can pilot ships top down as in screenshot, can also walk around ship deck in 3PV
>NPCs with hopefully complex personalities (I have some cool ideas, doing some experiments on the side)

Status:
>Map generates randomly using a Perlin noise for asteroid density
>Ship is controllable, has fuel and battery, can dock to stations with a basic docking request system
>Can exit cockpit and walk around

WIP:
>Map editor for stations and ship interior
>Ore mining mechanic
>Damage on collisions

Did Gabe Newell invest money into LLM and AI companies, such that Valve or Valve-approved companies could automatically write better and more authentic-seeming fake positive reviews in multiple languages for high-profile games that had unofficial agreements with Steam? For games that were trash, but where it was judged that a lot of fake positive reviews would work to ensure sales and keep up appearances?

Is Olden Era such a game? The high positive review rate there is strange, considering how many people encounter lots of issues with bugs, gameplay, multiplayer crashes, graphics, story, campaigns, music, basically everything.

i think that what really ruins your mind is arguing and fighting. because it trains your brain to function in a way that doesn't work with creating a game. arguing and fighting is a state of mind where your iq usually drops and it becomes more about fight or flight responses.
this might also be why so often it's said that "boredom makes you more productive". i think it's also because boredom is relaxing. if you aren't involved in any fights or arguments you become more relaxed, because there's no trouble around you.
so maybe the problem isn't social media, movies and games in general. the problem is when they contain violence and arguing. it conditions your brain to fight and not to create.

If you want to talk religious about it, it's those that cast their gaze away from the devil who won't know true evil when they see it.
We have a big problem where governments have started to regulate fictional depictions of vile acts but not the actual real life equivalent. Drawings of people get more legal protection than the people themselves. Rape gangs are allowed to reign whilst implying that rape exists in a game would get you banned.

It's true that violent people tend towards playing violent games instead of non-violent games, for example, but it's not proof that violent games turn people violent, plus it keeps violent people distracted from commiting actual violence.
Extreme shit in art is a necessary evil to keep the real evil contained.

I half agree. I find AI to be detrimental when I use it to start a project, because like you said, hand crafted code is typically easier to understand and remember.
But once you have all the systems in place, AI becomes a content machine. And it will mostly conform and use the stuff you created by hand, so it all will make logical sense to you.

There's a Gnome/GTK developer who is very opinionated about how things should be so he keeps removing features from the Gnome apps/DE (like removing solid color wallpaper option or removing playlist feature from the music player because that doesn't belong in a music player, just click on the song file you want to play after each song :^)), and every time people bring shit up he just replies with "what's the use case for this feature?" etc. This is just /g/ meme mocking the guy.

Most of his takes are completely unreasonable like this shit: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/work_items/3787#note_1104303

99% of artists use reference. Being able to completely draw, at high levels, without using any reference is an extremely rare skill very few artists actually have.

You need to draw and paint to a degree that's unimaginable to the average person/non-artist mind.

Copying a pose is extremely harmless. Copying character design, character ideas, character models, that's a whole other topic.

Localhost is a loopback address that tells a computer to connect to itself, using that IP I cannot connect to your game unless I was running an instance of your game on my own computer. To allow others to connect to the instance you have on your computer you need to expose the relevant port to outside connections (which in this case appears to be port 6000) and provide to players your public global IP address.

Unsure if it's worth pursuing this prototype anymore. I've got the basics done, but there needs to be a good amount of balancing, and I don't know if there is enough juice to squeeze out of it gameplay wise.
>>

It is not a skill issue, the assignment of localhost to the loopback address is defined by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standards, primarily codified in RFC 1122 and RFC 5735

Yes and it means using various photos or stuff like pic related, not literally copying the exact same pose from a video game cover for your OWN video game cover. It crosses the line from "reference" to "shameless homework copy".

>A myriad of developers and skillsets has afforded Strange Scaffold flexibility that other studios don’t have – to swiftly reposition our experienced and focused creators onto different projects, depending on capacity, dependencies, and priorities.
Team members have worked on hundreds of projects between them, from personal projects, contract work, and time in independent studios, right through to some of the biggest IPs and AAA development – amounting to capability and capacity well beyond most teams.
Key collaborators sit across multiple projects – managing trailer creation, key art, audio, and QA, allowing them to operate within key pivot points across all our projects at a high quality level, while minimizing ongoing costs and execution.
All of this is done via consistent and responsive planning by the creative director, the production team, marketing & operations.

I don't have a team

Ok I fixed 2 bugs per your request. The first was the blinking when using the equipment menu, now 100% gone. I just removed a function that would open and close the inventory as part of the equipment update process which is no longer needed. The other issue I fixed was when scrolling down, tabbing over to another category, then tabbing back, the scroll bar would not reset, then jump to the top when scrolling down again. Well not anymore. I just had to set the scroll offset to 0 when tabbing over to different tabs. Now i need to update the scrollbar thickness and design so it stops shifting the inventory slots.

Wasteland 2 and 3 were made using Unity Asset Store to make development cheaper, the studio director was open about it. This is why with their million dollar budgets the game looks like a cheap knockoff and a perfectionist's nightmare both in inventory icons and model-wise. There is no visual integrity in the game's style and models, it's just a hodge podge of random thematic assets. Some things don't even make sense. These retards bought a model for a broken Soviet Moskvich car with modern Russian license plate and put THREE IDENTICAL COPIES OF THESE SOVIET CARS ON THE SAME PARKING SPOT, in post-war AMERICAN COLORADO SPRINGS. I'm not even talking about a poster with Viktor Vysotskiy (mega popular actor/singer in the late USSR), like what the hell all of this has to do with the USA?
