Host clubs are basically like pimps in Japan, but what separates them from actual pimps is that they provide you with the comfort of romance and dating. Pimps, on the other hand, manipulate vulnerable young women into sex work for financial gain. I'm not ruling out the possibility of Ima having a pimp who controlled his finances, but it's entirely possible he worked as a sex worker independently; independent sex workers/escorts exist too. Ima just doesn't seem like the type who would like working under someone else and taking the money he could use to pay for Kako's clothes.
