To add more variability to the game, they should make resource nodes depletable, while also adding new potential spawn points. There should be about 100k of each material per mining point, and new nodes should spawn every 3 days or so - across about 5 different potential sites on the map. Sometimes, more points would spawn than usual, and other times less; this would encourage you to redesign your factory according to current resource availability. At the same time, finding the new nodes and preparing them for mining would add a bit of recurring exploration gameplay to the game.
