The first time through I tried to keep getting the options that minus'd the same stat while it was still at zero so I wouldn't lose any stats, then the second time realizing that growing the plant gives you bigger gains I tried to grow it ASAP. I think the latter strategy was better and I just got really unlucky with my last 5 choices and it wouldn't give me the one stat I needed.
