You'd either have to have SKK be the guy running around the open world and calling in nikkes when encounters happen but no-one would want to look at SKK's ass as they're exploring and it'd feel too Pokémon ish, but if you're playing as your girls running around the open world and SKK just shows up in cutscenes or whatever then he'd too easily become an afterthought and why's he even there? It'd be hard to maintain that squad based feeling as well, since most people would want to play singleplayer so even if you do the Genshin thing of switching characters there'd always be the main character of any given team and the whole tactical squad dynamic would fall aside.I think open world isn't for everything. If we were to get a big budget nikke spin-off, I think something like Xcom would be the best way to do it. That way you have tactical squad-based deployments and SKK remains the key character instructing the squads directly while also managing the surface reclamation war, and you can have all the slowed-down zoomed-in shots of nikkes using their abilities and landing kills like in Xcom 2 but with more ass and tiddies. Instead of permadeath you have the wounded system where if a nikke takes damage or gets taken out they're unavailable for deployment while being repaired, so you have to manage your powerful unique nikkes alongside your rikkers who fill in the gaps, and you can keep the counselling system (but more in-depth) as a way to deal with when they get traumatised or PTSD and work that into a romance system, and the more affection they have for you the less likely they are to take those mental debuffs. You can include things like bonuses or even whole abilities for nikkes from the same squad (e.g. when Vesti flies up to rain down missiles, if you have Eunhwa in the squad she'll get a free attack against the first enemy who targets Vesti). That'd be neat.
