Started reading Ch. 7 and listening to Matilda explain United Harvest's history and how it became a monopoly, but I was under the impression that the chess pieces and Grace Imperium were the ones that mandated the monopoly system (rather than just pure capitalism and market forces)? Since every company has some kind of an exclusive patent for a given industry literally granted to them by god? I feel like I'm missing something about the setting, but my memory is shit.
