Still not the best controlling game in the series at all, but after getting used to it some characters can be very fun, thanks to the well designed stages. Particularly Sonic with the gems. Blaze's movement flows the nicest of any character, so in that regard alone I think she's the best, but her moveset and level design are very limited. Maybe Blaze movement (including her version of the Homing Attack) plus Sonic's upgrades (Bounce and gems) would have been the best character to play as.
