In my millennial highschool class there were 2 guys balding by 16-17 it's just unfortunate genetics, all the stress he was put through may have contributed too
Stop turning everything into generational shitflinging
>>
>>567411665
Zoomers on average are actually aging slower than older generations. Hans just has terrible hair genetics and probably very high T
>>
>>567420221
I'll have what he's smoking. Zoomers are notoriously aging out faster because of all the cosmetic shit they try DURING their actual youth. It is beyond retarded.
>>
>>567420690

Has he ever been directly confronted or responded to comments about his hair loss? I imagine he’s gotta be a fairly wealthy guy to facilitate his chess career. Why not get treatment early?
100% Magnus prevented it early, so there’s no shame.

I'll take your word for it. I am not digging into this shit. Trend is going up though. Be careful zoomerinos.

0% chance he did that, dude is the typical austis that gives no fucks about his looks and so are most chess players
>>
>>567422714
The hair loss treatments we have today have a small but significant chance to permanently kill your dick. I'd rather be bald than an eunuch.
>>
>>567418676
>all the stress he was put through may have contributed too
No fucking shit. My rapidly progressing hair loss suddenly mysteriously stopped after I got my degree, funny how that works huh.
>>
>>567424830
It's not officially proven to happen at all, there are even schizos who say minoxidil permanently killed their dick so it's easily proven that people can convince themselves of all kinds of bullshit.
If it is true, my hypothesis is that it works something like this:
>anon takes finasteride
>(for those who don't know, finasteride blocks the conversion of testosterone to DHT)
>either gets legitimate sides or nocebo
>gets scared and immediately stops taking it
>test production is downregulated because of excess free testosterone that wasn't being converted to DHT
>quitting cold turkey instead of tapering off lead to the same effect as what people get when they aren't careful with tapering off TRT
So basically it's possible "PFS" is just an ordinary hormone crash.
>>
>>567427116
Not taking the risk either way. "My dick doesn't work anymore" isn't the kind of story people would have a reason to invent. Even if it's a 1% chance that's already too high for something that's literally permanent.

Bishops.and knights on g3 and f1 are great defenders. A single knight on f1 can be enough to stop most attacks with a queen. Also in this specific position, you could go f3 rather than g3. Having queens/rooks defend along the second rank is fragile but can frustrate the attacker because they don't always think about it.

Alireza vs Fabi isn’t broadcasted? Is it happening in Alireza’s room?
>>
>>567482540
as mentioned, f3 is better here (due to the second severe threat of Rd8-d1+)
To prevent it in the first place, it is sometimes handy to "make luft" with h3 or g3, which also prevents some of the frontal attacks like this.
>>
>fabi used his rest day to pound alireza
>>
>>567456690
yeah
>>
>>567516426
You play g3 too early against an Indian he will rub his hands together and start masturbating under the table looking at Nh3+. It doesn't matter if it's good or bad, that's what the game is going to be about from that point on, so if your goal is to avoid that kind of game don't do that. h3 is good at low elo because it baits them into making a terrible sac half of the time, just keep a knight on f3 and nothing bad can happen.

FIDE (and lichess) count insufficient material if there is no legal sequence of moves to checkmate, which includes help mates.
USCF (and chesscom) count insufficient material if it's impossible to *force* a mate, which excludes help mates.

I highly recommend this extension called Chess Risk Score. Picrel is me and just an example, I have an extreme risk profile atm because I'm coming in hot on a new account. It's not a false positive per se, because all it does is calculate how "risky" the profile is to play. So, if it's a new account like me that's collecting scalps, but also if it's an older account that hasn't necessarily been banned yet but has uncommonly high accuracy or a few too many wins over losses. I abort against anyone over 20% risky and play with a little more peace of mind.
The guy I mentioned who got banned in my first game I started playing before the extension calclulated his risk profile because I forgot I had it, once it loaded it said he was 90% extreme risk. He was banned like an hour later. So it's not just baseless paranoia

>>
>>567636030
If I had played enough on both the ratings would probably normalize, the issue is that there is such a density of cheats there that I would have to really grind to get to where I should have gotten in a few games. In my first few games I got, back to back, two 3+2 opponents who played 98% accuracy. That’s exactly true btw, that exact accuracy both times. My own accuracy was also normal and good in those games, both times over 90%. But they were literally just injecting Stockfish straight in their veins and I could find no daylight. Both accounts had the typical wild ratings of licheats, 1200 bullet, 1500 puzzles, 1800 blitz with increment, 2200 rapid etc. Multiple sequential encounters like that early on in an account will tank the rating and you can destroy a few noobs and start to climb but more licheats are in the ranks waiting to shank you again. And suddenly to the rest of the world I look like a genuine 1700 liblitz and they would be mightily surprised to see my com account.
My new account on com is a perfect contrast. Yes, these cheats really do exist in enough numbers that my very first game of the day was against one. But on com, he was banned an hour later. You know? My experience on licheats was the same, cheats straight away, but nothing was and ever will be done about them.
It’s not completely hopeless on licheats, with enough time you can get to where you deserve to go. Obviously, strong players play there and survive. But it’s a total crapshoot, and it will just take a larger sample size of games.

At this point the general is just one person bumping replies to themselves. I also noticed how during weekends there isn’t even an attempt to get tournaments going again. It has gotten significantly more depressing here recently.

If you are under 1000 literally just form queen bishop battery every game and you'll probably gain 400 points

Hi anons I know none of you will believe me here but my 8 year old son has been classed as a prodigy by 2 different teachers. I am asking if there is any future or real reason for him to take this mega serioiusly.
I know kids do hobbies like karate or football and I'm completely supportive of my son doing chess as his hobby but I don't know just HOW seriously I should let him indulge in this. I don't want him to get lost in the sauce thinking he's the next Magnus. I want him to still focus on main studies and paths that will lead toward a real career.

How do chess prodigies normally work out? Do they flicker and burn out normally? Sorry I've never been on this board before I'm normally an /o/out/ anon but I was told to ask here about chess.
>>
>>567674123
I have already heard the schpiel from the coaches on why I should pay lodsa dosh to get him the best coaching to bloom this budding possibilities but I also know they are trying to sell a service and I don't want to get caught up in some "my kid is a genius" hype that so many shysters sell.
So I wanted feedback from the dregs of society to balance my outlook. Thanks anon.s

Shitter is what you become after you improve beyond beginner territory.
beginner (unrated) -> shitter (1400-1600) -> patzer (1600-1800) -> club player (1800-2000) -> expert (2000-2300) (-> CM if you're a tard (2200-2300)) -> master (2300+)
Ratings are fide of course.

Even if he managed to become a GM, it would still be a waste of time with not nearly enough ROI unless he was one of the top 10-20 in the world (a “superGM”). And even then, only the very top players like Magnus Carlsen are making bank, the other top players are lucky to break 100k in a year from professional chess. Regular GMs, meanwhile, have to go into coaching or try to be content creators in order to make a buck. Nobody knows who they are, and nobody cares, even though they’re masters of their craft, because they aren’t invited to the top tournaments. They’re just regular people who happened to spend their entire life mastering a board game for no reason.
Personally I think kids should be free to chase their dreams as long as they’re kids and only have to sober up to reality when they’re an adult. You never know, maybe he could be really good, and as a kid it’s not like he has responsibilities that prevent him from playing around in life and seeing what he’s good at. That’s what childhood is basically for, a risk free time to test yourself in various hobbies before ultimately identifying your path and paying the bills.
I would say if he’s not an IM by around 15 but is playing the game pretty obsessively still, I would have a gentle conversation with him about starting to think about his life as an adult and putting his time to better use. Otherwise, let him play games
>>
Btw, I’m quite sure Naroditsky did cheat and the above ^ is the reason. The psychological toll of being a failGM and coming just shy of superGM and having to go into coaching and content creation like GothamChess started to weigh on him and he was in a dark place. He started doing drugs and cheating at online chess. When he was accused by Kramnik he spiralled, not because the accusation was false and unfounded but because it was true and he felt guilty. His drug use intensified and eventually the guilt and drugs both overcame him and he killed himself.
Redditors who would insist he would NEVER because he’s heckin wholesome chungus were also surprised to learn about the drugs. They’re just naive and don’t understand that people have depths they don’t show in public and everyone is fighting their own demons.

Leningrad is pretty hard to defend if white plays aggressively. I prefer the classical to be a bit safer

I like to use it against the London since it's the most aggressive Dutch and usually they just let you do whatever you want while they play their system moves. I go for a e-file push that attacks, and sometimes forks, their minor pieces to gain space and disrupt their king-side pawns

They see professional players doing it so they imitate the behavior. It's silly because at a beginner (and even intermediate amateur) level, mistakes that turn the game around are very likely to happen, but people still do it for some reason.

He didn't like that you were going to take hs queen then take his rook, winning the exchange. It's a little complex but you end up keeping it as far as I see.

>>567845724
Currently you have a queen for two pieces, a rook, and a pawn. He doesn't like that you're going to take his rook on the next turn. I believe Bg7 saves it though and only sacs the bishop, so at the end you'll have a queen vs rook ,knight, and bishop. But he probably didn't see that. Or maybe Qc1+ is even worse there for him, idk.

Why does Gotham so rarely do full master level game reviews (so rare that he explains that it’s rare that he does them whenever he does)? I fucking hate him but I admit that his full game reviews can go toe to toe with anyone’s in entertainment and quality. Yet he’d rather watch shitty players play and make “witty” remarks.

Also how the fuck is that racist dude? Alua is the only one that took the forward step to drop the Russian ending from her name (a rejection of Soviet repression) but these are all traditional Kazakh names. Show some goddamn respect.

Too easy. Don’t know why anyone does lichess or chesscum puzzles over chesstempo tactics. The former are all gimmicks.

Rules for tourneys:
>report catmixer immediately when he starts using his engine
>don’t play games with catmixer
>tell the general about any accounts that seem like they might be him
He’s the only person here who cheats, gives himself away with 2500 shit.
