I guess Sunshine and SA2 are surprisingly similar in story. Generally I prefer Sonic games. Though 64 and Sunshine have great movement that just feels great even to just run around doing nothing and I don't think Sonic has ever reached that level. But that's probably by design. 2D Mario and the later 3D Mario games are fully point A to point B games and don't feel as good to me either, Mario 64 was a completely different type of game that focuses more on exploration and movement. I think Sonic's real equivalent to Mario 64 is Frontiers, and they did put more effort in making the movement feel good and expressive for the player. Maybe the next Sonic game will be more satisfying in that aspect
