Been playing earthbound on SNES9xGX on my gamecube, are there any cheats that crank drop rates up to 100%? I want to get the sword of kings without completely obliterating the game balance by overleveling, but all the cheat code pages I've seen are stuff like level 99 on everyone, infinite money infinite hp etc etc.

PCSX2 standalone's PGS is more performant here. There's some sound chop in sharts, but it sounds and plays perfectly in PCSX2.

Okay, had some RA settings wrong. Now it's runnin' good. 2X SSAA (high res or 4x is way too heavy on this rig) + ScaleFX shader.
>>
I dunno Alienware simp, maybe you should install Gentoo. I've heard AMD drivers are just better here, though, so I can't guarantee the same performance. PGS may just prefer AMD on the low end too, I just don't know. My only NV card is a 4070 on my main rig and that's no comparison at all.
>>
I'm always amazed at how you people can optimize hardware builds here. I can't into computers very much, so I stagnate in basic Linux distros. Can I do some optimization even in those?

RPCS3 - Chronicles of Riddick Dark Athena
Section where you control drones has a visual issue where you cant see, and its required to progress. Basically what this guy said, but looks like some mod or somrthing closed this issue because he didnt format the post exactly the way they wanted
https://github.com/RPCS3/rpcs3/issues/15347

If it cant fixed Ill try to find a save point past this section I guess, but I dont know how many of these sections are mandatory in the game.
>>
>>567693001
Any reason you'd play that version instead of the PC version? Just testing the emulation? Anything special about the PS3 version?
>>
>>567697364
Xenia version doesnt work at all, games not listed on any store.
I did try the abandonware file first and it crashed on launch.
After I posted this I reinstalled the pc one and found a fix on a reddit post. Found a 100% save to skip to where I was, so all is good now.
Still I wonder why the mods just shit down that issue post wihout a fix

Is Kenji-NX or Ryubing the better emulator?

I tried Ryubing but I got some error that says my comp doesn't support CET which apparently only one other person has had an issue with which he never solved.

On the other hand, Kenji-NX hasn't had a release in 7 months although he appears to still be working on it and has a CLR assert failure too.

What's up with these new emus? Ryujinx works just fine. What did they add to cause these issues?

Recently got a new PC and was looking to emulate Switch games again and then I suddenly remembered a weird bug with Ryujinx / Ryubing
Whenever Ryujinx/Ryubing opened and the terminal? popped up, if I clicked on other windows, it would disappear (The window wasn't closed but I couldn't access it)
Yuzu and Yuzu-forks never had that issue for me so has that been fixed on Ryujinx forks yet?

is xenia more advanced than rpcs3? or is it the other way around?
>>
>>567761541
Yes and no? They are both better than each other in some ways. Some games run a hell of a lot faster in one, or the other. Some games are broken to shit in one but playable in the other. Since Xenia Edge the UX isn't (quite) as laughable, but RPCS3 has a lot more niceties in that dept. They are both YMMV as fuck and you're left to github and youtube to decide what's worth trying or not.

what's the best ways to emulate lightgun games?
im finally coming around to play house of the dead and other lightgun games that have been rotting in my backlog for nearly a decade
>>
>>567786641
On a flat panel: Get a Sinden or if you hate yourself look into putting together a GUN4IR or buy one someone else made at a huge markup. You could really cheap out and use a Wiimote + wiimote-to-mouse software but meh, if you can't sight-aim without a crosshair it's hardly a lightgun IMO.
On a CRT: From my experience a Guncon 2 knockoff hasn't worked so well on a mister, may get a SNAC + Guncon 1 or real 2 at some point and see how that goes. Guncon 2 has PC drivers but they are very janky last I fucked around with it.
Not-really-emulation: Get a PS2, mod it, and get a Guncon 2. That covers most of the best lightgun games ever made. Virtua Cop, Time Crisis, Point Blank series, Lethal Enforcers (has a hack for Guncon) and more.

First, try software mode. If the issue is absent, then it's gsdx screewing up. Next step, try gsdx, but in native res. If the issue is absent, great, you got upscaling bug. Then, try to fiddle with the options or open an issue on the github. May also be an interlacing problem, so try fiddle with that too.

>>
>>567915503
Yeah, agreed. It's very speculative, but I think it's something with how it makes draw calls from the CPU to the GPU in this game. I think somehow it's even *worse* and heavier on Nvidia, as my much better CPU and NV GPU somehow can't outperform Xemu in Troonix on an old i5 + 7800 HD. The emu's definitely doing something suboptimally and wrong here. I am tempted to install Arch on my AMD mini though, as it's about 2-3x better than that machine in every way, and AMD seems to thrive in troonux land.

Wasn't FSR1 supposed to be used with originally higher-resolution content? Like, from 1440p to 4K? I've tried it on emulators and the source resolution is way too low to be useful. You'd be bettter off with traditional interpolation shaders.

The crazy stuff is hrydgard is actually a very hard-working dev, he's constantly tinkering with his emulator, for many years now.

Considering the average emudev, I like his style: no fretting over issues, just keep working on his thing. Fixes come when they come, and improvements do tend to happen.

RetroArch has them in the main repository, it comes packed with the executable. Look for bezel > koko-aio. They're much lighter than Mega Bezel, and there are versions with and without the handheld overlay.

Can you reword that in a less word salady way, please? What? Either way FSR1 was a post process blur that was barely smarter than FXAA, and DLSS actually used in engine motion vectors and reconstructed the image to something perceptibly higher definition, even in the early days. It still does the job better than AMD to anyone with eyes to see. How am I wrong?

A composite cable plugged into a standard-definition CRT doesn't have modern color depth, sharpness, or pixel structure. The dithering you see from an emulator's raw framebuffer isn't 'realistic', you shouldn't be seeing it on your display like that at all. Even with games without TAA or TAA disabled DLSS 1080-to-4K is perceptibly much sharper and pleasing to the eye than a native 1080p image. Same with FSR2-4. It just doesn't do the job as well. Well, I haven't looked at FSR4 vs DLSS, but the last I looked at FSR3 it had far more unpleasant artifacts. You sound like you just don't want to give corpos a W for their proprietary tech, which is understandable, but if it works it works. Are you going to say the more open FSR2-4 is any better, because it's just another motion vector algo. XeSS, DLSS, and FSR2+ are interchangeable with DLL drop, in fact.

Won't test that because I don't have a fhd screen but, in the section

the link for PPFX Bloom is dead because github
https://github.com/UTwelve/3AReal/blob/master/ReshadeForFFXIV/Reshade/Shaders/PPFX_Bloom.fx

and since PPFX has not been updated for like a decade, you need the updated version for it to work on the latest reshade.
https://github.com/Mortalitas/GShade-Shaders/blob/master/Shaders/PPFX_Bloom.fx

A good alternative is Blooming HDR, works almost the same with little to no setup and is up to date with the latest reshade.
https://github.com/BlueSkyDefender/AstrayFX/blob/master/Shaders/BloomingHDR.fx

I very much like your work on that wiki section but there is way too much information crammed in a single page, some of the tables are also hard to read, keep it up anon.

I can understand not wanting to give Nvidia an inch for proprietary tech and many other bad practices and how they've shat up the market, but it's simply the better upscaler. He can cope, seethe, and dial 8 all he wants, but it's still true. One can and maybe should refuse to buy it regardless, but it is what it is.

btw, if you have a 1440p or 4K monitor, you can still test it by just dropping your active display resolution down to 1080p.

Video clips uploaded to Gofile, or any other platform would actually be ideal. I want to make sure the preset scales properly across different setups, emulators, and games. Some games on certain emulators have weird framebuffer outputs, I'm noticing this especially on Xemu, and PCSX2 with certain progressive-scan games. I'm not entirely sure why it's happening...
>>
I’m not very knowledgeable about development, but I have a question. Why does the Saturn emulator rely on the CPU instead of the GPU? CUDA, ROCm, or OpenCL could potentially improve performance, right? Is it easier to work on the CPU because of the architectural complexity of the Saturn? I don't get it, emubros

The Saturn was the PS3 of the 90's, an absolute clusterfuck of an architecture with two cpu needing to be synchronize, weird quad based 3D rending, etc, etc... There were emulator doing HLE shit which allowed upscaling and shit, but, compatibility was not her. So software imposed itself as the way, for now at least.
And if you ask why nobody decided to go compute shader... Because only the maister is competent enough to pull that shit and for now he work on the PS2.

That's because Beetle and Mednafen are *not* the same. The former is a hard fork of the latter; it adds a few features, which likely makes it heavier than its source.

If your machine is struggling, stick to the lighter option. If you still want to use RetroArch, pick a lighter core, since Beetle is the heaviest of the bunch.

>>568213094
>with two cpu needing to be synchronize
There's about 8 CPU's all up that need to be synchronised in the saturn. The 2 main ones, then a bunch of other smaller ones on top of that.

This is the cause of the infamous input lag in saturn emulation. It's actually in the original hardware as well.
>>
Soukyuu Gurentai ST-V is only 1 frame of lag on MAME
Saturn can be snappy at the hands of competent developers
>>
>>568214031
The space is taken up by audio.
It's uncompressed.

Uncompressed audio is approximately 10MB per minute, per channel.
PS3 is in 5.1 stereo (possibly even more, like 8.1).
But lets assume it's 5.1, so that's 5+1 ..... 6 channels of audio.

1 hour of audio = 60 mins
60 mins x 10MB per minute x 6 channels = 3600MB.

Plus there are like 6 languages on the disc. 3.6GB x 6 languages = 21.6GB just for one hour of cutscene audio.

What possessed Sega to go with such an asinine design, I wonder? They were pretty much at the forefront of 3D hardware design at the arcades, weren't they? I know that doesn't always translate well to consoles, and the Model 2 was literally military-grade, but couldn't they have started with a massively cut down version of that and gone from there? Or was that not viable at the time and they were forced to go to the drawing board and start from scratch?

Chiming in with this guy. GroovyArcade -> Ayy 7870 HD card -> Analog DVI port + VGA dongle -> transcoder -> component -> splitter -> split off to a 15khz CRT and a 31khz VGA monitor rotated on its side for vert arcade games, depending on what I want to play. I have another splitter connected to a MiSTer. I use the PC a lot more to be honest, but I'd sooner recommend the MiSTer for CRT setups if 5th gen is all you care to bother with, and you only want early arcade games + Neo/CPS.

I theorize that they made some massive deal with Hitachi in the mid 90s for their home machines and tried to make do with what they had. They could have just underestimated the competition, too. Maybe their arcade R&D was tying up too much of their hardware development budget. It's funny, they had the most powerful arcade hardware by far, but couldn't really scale down to properly compete in the home space at the time.

Go into the shader parameters and change things to your liking. For that specific shader, you can remove or intensify the curvature, vignette effect, mask, scanlines, NTSC artifacts, signal clarity, color boosting and even the color profile. You'll probably achieve something you like.

Not bad, but the curvature, scanlines, and chromatic aberration in that preset seem more focused on aesthetics: a bit too extreme in my opinion. Still, if you’re okay with that look (some people prefer aesthetics over “realism”), it doesn’t look bad.

lmao, Striker's being such a bro to you, be kind. Saturn ain't so simple in that regard because it's a pile of hacks stapled together to create 3D environments. A lot of games use a mode7 style 'floor' with sprites warped into different positions for models. Yabadabadoo and Kronos have upscaling but you'll find the results mixed. It will be that way when Striker adds it to Ymir too. It'll be super dependent on per-game hacks.

Old console games did not look like a perfect nearest neighbor/integer image on a flat panel display. The closest to that look was low res PC games on a VGA monitor, but there was still a bit of geometry, halation, phosphor decay, and faint scanlines. Consoles connected to a TV via composite simply looked far different from ciggy_hey_look_at_this_emu_bug.jpg

>For interlaced video, we expect each individual field to have clearly visible scanlines, but the complete image (fused together by our brains) should not. The beam profile should be tuned as such. What most shaders do is for each scanline to take a gaussian distribution in the Y direction, sampled for the neighbor lines to cover the useful portion of the kernel.

I guess he is referring to the interlacing flicker on 480i, which I previously mentioned here;

https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Shaders,_presets,_and_filters#:~:text=those%20who%20wish%20to%20simulate%20the%20%22interlacing%20flicker%22%20(which%20is%20different%20than%20%22scanlines%22)%20of%20480i%20titles%20could%20use%20a%20flickering%20shader%20with%20variable%20strength.
>>
>>568446983
Each field in 480i will indeed have visible scanlines when paused in motion, but that's beside the point.
He posts screenshots with de-interlacer on, and two videos at the end have visible scanlines too not unlike >>568396280
>>
>>568447179
Oh, I see it now. Yeah, he's also going down the CRT mask simulation path, which I think is another mistake. Most people are running 1080p, 1440p or 4K host resolutions, which aren't high enough for a proper 480 mask simulation.

Shader parameters are a blessing. I remember when you had to accept the defaults or gtfo, because everything was hardcoded. I know nobody seems interested in merging PGS into main PCSX2, but I wonder if that CRT sim section is mergeable. There is also another PR currently open;
https://github.com/PCSX2/pcsx2/pull/14433

if both of these somehow got merged, it would make PCSX2 the most capable emulator for CRT simulation among all sixth-gen emulators: Dolphin and Xemu have nothing that compares to it, other than ReShade compatibility.
>>
>>568460624
The thing is, PCSX2 is the emulator that needs these features the most, because the PS2 was the most CRT tricks-dependent system of that generation. Without simulating the signal, cable, or other analog/CRT aspects, the direct framebuffer output looks terrible. This is especially true because people constantly use the emulator to upscale resolution, which devs always warn will cause additional graphical glitches, +making sixth-gen 3D assets look like garbage.

Is there a fully portable, OS-stack-independent way to run a Linux VM on a Windows host?

QEMU-KVM is great on Linux, but on Windows, I want to avoid WHPX entirely. Performance-wise, is QEMU TCG good enough just for running something like Ubuntu Server or Arch to compile code/building? Is there a container approach or something similar that is portable enough to run straight off an external drive across different machines? VirtualBox and VMware both require system-wide drivers and services, which kills portability. At this point, I'm completely tired of relying on janky scripts to manage VMs on Windows machines just for basic stuff.

But to really answer your question, you could install vmware workstation, i used that to run some linux only scripts. but installing vmware workstation bloats your OS with all kinds of trash.

I gave up on that approach years ago, but it still seems like the best option available.

>you could install vmware workstation
Which is mostly what I do on Windows machines (+using with scripts). But I’ve been waiting a better solution for years at this point...

I guess I just need to go full Linux + KVM host. No more going back and forth between a Windows host and a Linux host machine.

I've got a sony CRT. The TVL is far too fucking high and it's only a consumer set.
It's so high it makes games look far too pixellated when i use it for emulation via component.
I have to use a shader (GTU50) that enables me to lower the vertical signal bandwidth/increase the amount of vertical blur (effectively lowering the TVL) to make 240p games look good.

1. If anything the actual father of libretro, almost perfect N64 RDP emulation, and increasingly almost perfect PS2 GS emulation should know what they are talking about.

2. Too bad it's for PCSX2 only.

3. CRT emulation/simulation is a highly subjective affair and nobody should subscribe to either side of the matter, they should try what works better with the hardware they have available that better evokes the way they played their consoles in the CRT era.

Consumer CRTs where anything but uniform.

AI factories are the new data centers
Nvidia is no longer talking about selling graphics processing units; it is talking about building “revenue-generating AI factories.” Today’s data centers, Huang argued, are constrained by power and capital, forcing operators to optimize for the lifetime cost of producing intelligence rather than the list price of a chip.

“Customers do not buy GPUs,” he said. “They build AI factories, and the right economic metric is not the GPU’s purchase price. It is the lifetime cost of an AI factory producing intelligence, measured in terms of tokens per watt, tokens per dollar, uptime, utilization, time to production, software durability and asset life. Nvidia excels at all of them.”

I haven't done switch emulation since ryujinx died. According to the readmes, the current forks for ryujinx and yuzu don't seem to increase performance in games, at best they seem to have qol features or maybe better compatibility with new games.

Should I use one of the forks or just go with the latest version of ryujinx or yuzu?

>Shader cache files should be fully transferable between devices, drivers and Azahar versions, and only become incompatible if changes to the Vulkan renderer require more information to be saved in the cache. This may happen a few times as Azahar improves.

>As described in the Objects section, some objects are not transferable because they rely on driver specific characteristics (this also includes the existing driver pipeline cache). When such situation happens, the cache will be re-generated at boot using the related transferable objects (which results in a longer boot time, but only once as the results from the regeneration will be stored and the old ones discarded).

now if only people would share these caches.....

Yeah ofc you won't beat a real crt especially when it come to motion clarity with a simple shader unless you have a lot of brightness headroom. Among other details.
Pulsar is quite close though and requires no shader though. And it's well worth using bfi regardless of the brightness hit anyway, I refuse to believe anyone real (aka not a shill/journo who only has MUH BRIGHTNESS as the only argument to sell more TVs) just maxout their brightness all the time for this to matter, not to mention, what's the point of having a bright but blurry picture?
I still prefer the picture quality of my big ass oled with hardware strobing over my crt overall, that's for certain. And it's bright and clear enough.

I'd look up the differences between Sat and PSX because they are significant, and also weigh if upresing, and lag are important to you. Saturn emulation and perhaps the Saturn itself is kinda laggy, but the Beetle core seems to have the least lag of all of them and can run-ahead if your system can handle it. You can get higher res graphics out of the PS1 version if you care about that. You really have to decide for yourself based on all this.

>It's missing several controller features
How often do you utilize pressure sensitive buttons on a DS3 when playing PCSX2? fyi you can remap them to triggers in retroarch and they become analog. Good for racing games, not really suitable for mgs2/3 tho.
>That's fine for most games, but not all
any differences that might sprout in LRPS2 vs PCSX2 can only be due to better EE emulation in the latter, and it hasn't been touched in years, refraction and lightningterror are too retarded for EE and just work on gsdx, which is a null point for LRPS2 w/ pgs
In other words recent updates of pcsx2 do not elevate its combability vs lrps2 because they are not EE related

>just don't have the best upscaling in the industry, raytracing that actually works, and usable hardware encoding because corpo bad
I know, wanting to play new games as intended is cringe, but raytracing without NV's reconstruction looks like glitchy blown out asshole, nogaems support ayy's reconstruction yet, and FSR is still behind DLSS as much as you want to ree at proprietary things. Oh, and ayy wanted to lock FSR4 down to the latest hardware and only accidentally leaked it to be used on 'legacy' cards, so they aren't le wholesome chungus you think they are. Also, their cards aren't cheap enough to justify picking a Dr Thunder version of an Nvidia equivalent. The RT is only half-way usable on RDNA3, and all those cost as much as their NV counterparts. They are really only worth getting if you're building a "let me guess, you need more?" rig on the cheap.

and if you think AMD isn't fully throwing behind turning us all into batteries or killing us all once robots get good enough, webm related. Mama-san Lisa would grind you into compute cluster thermal paste without a second thought. If you are gonna get uptight because of a big corpo's practices and condemn people for their hardware choices, you might as well go Ted-pilled and find a nice cabin and throw all your electronics away. They're all scumbags.

It would be nice if he just CI'd a Windows version. He knows, though. Just as Refagtion knows users would benefit from merging it and hence getting it CI'd and into actual human users' hands. We are in hell, though. So unless you want to do highly exclusionary nerd shit or trust anon builds, it's 'sharts or nothin at the moment.
>>
and of course, as stated, 'sharts doesn't have any special controller support at all, and no one maintaining the core gives a fuck because it's been this way for years.

>overclocked Saturn emulator
I'm still waiting for one of these. Fuck upresulation, half these games needs better performance more than anything. The closest to it is MAME's driver but it's shit. It must be hard to do and Saturn's plate-spinning multi CPU act must really depend on syncing them just so.

It's three basic git command (Git clone, git checkout, git apply) and just installing the most basic version of MSVC. Then it just right click, and build the project. Then you just wait. One you had done it one or two times, you understand it's not rocket science. That old anon even made some "instruct for retard" to help bundled with his builds.

You still need MSVC bloating around on your system, and you still have to wait for it to compile each time you want MeesterMaister's latest updates. It's a pain in the ass and I'm tired of the apologetics. Yes it's possible, but fuck'em all anyway. I'd rather just use it in Linux honestly, and have.
>>
Imagine using Windows and still having to compile shit. Jesus wept. The least that piece of shit can do is have executables ready to go for you.
>>
>>568644125
It's not like it was updated everyday, apart from his tv analog update recently, it didn't worked on it for months. Just get ride of MSVC once compiled.

It's just not at all the precedent if using Winblows. At least in Linux I'm immersed in the autism and its designed around compiling shit. I dunno, somehow it makes sense to me. Wouldn't it just be nice if all the parties involved here weren't faggots, though?
