This will be difficult for some anons to accept but Destiny 2 was pretty much garbage for all of its lifespan. The game was DOA and unlike Destiny 1 it didn’t have a single good DLC. And then on top of all the raw content issues Bungie kept reinventing the wheel, bending over to streamers, and wasted further development time on useless events. There is zero reason to believe Destiny 3 or any other Bungie product would be any better, as shown by Marathon. The company is so rotted they are fundamentally incapable of making a good game.

Monotonous planet + grind, no exotics , worthless side quest busy work and portal hell. It was something sunk cost slops could barely tolerate and anybody on the outs would surely not even bother. I think killing D2 was always planned to happen since post-launch of Renegades. They just didn't plan for Marathon to be such a massive failure. The plan was probably for Marathon to replace D2 and for Bungie to work on Marathon only for the next 2-3 years. Now Bungie and Sony look even more retarded because Marathon flopped and they are shutting down the game people actually care about with no backup plan. Marathon had to succeed to justify Bungie's existence. Sony now has sunk cost fallacy and will probably fund Marathon for a year or two before pulling the plug on Marathon and Bungie as a whole.

lightfall was doomed from the get-go, since DLCs are always being worked on very early, and since lightfall ended up the way it did, that means it was purposely made to be as shit as possible. its literally a filler arc for destiny to bridge the gap to final shape.
