I need you guys opinions on my hentai gameplay idea.

It's a board game, you play mostly like a roguelike.
There's a harem of enemy tokens.
You hit them, until they're K.O.

They can be stacked when K.O. which means a combo and a group animation when you rape them

Also, when they're K.O. they can be raped by the MC shota, and then you could capture them in your shota balls, to summon them as ally to fight.

I asked this yesterday but looking for a second opinion because I'm very indecisive.
When it comes to publishing your game and the social media side of it, as a solo indie dev would you publish it under your online name or make a one-man studio (like how ZUN is the sole person behind Touhou but he operates under Team Shanghai Alice)? I go by a fake name online (eg John) and my usernames are the same, but I was wondering if I should create a circle/studio/label like TSA to release under. It would seem more professional but I wonder if that would make it more convoluted, like I can imagine someone thinking 'oh this game is by (my label)' then looking in to it and seeing that said label is run solely by John but John isn't even the creator's real identity. My game is very personal and made just for fun so I do want it to link back to my true identity in some way. Also when it comes to making an account to post about the release of said game or additional artwork and things, would I make the username and branding of that account as my label's primarily or treat it like a personal account?
I'm overthinking it and it depends on the person but not sure what to do.

What makes a game is its interactivity, the user input. So if you want to be super reductive, the main thing you should concentrate on is user input, character controller, the menu where you remap controls, things like that. If you want to tell a story, write a book. If you want to show something pretty or interesting, paint a painting or make a video. House plans are copyrighted as artistic works in Canada and generally in the United States.
I don't think they're protected from you referencing those plans to create a 3d game environment. As long as you don't include the architectural plans themselves which are protected, it would be extremely difficult if not impossible for them to pursue any litigation against you.
As long as your neighbours house isn't a famous/historic property that has very distinct architectural features, you could copy his house exactly save for a single micro detail that prevents it from being an exact 1:1 copy of his house plan.
You also need to be wary when copying his home decor, using 1:1 replicas of family photos could get you flak provided they are exact copies. If I were you, I would apply a painterly filter over them and stretch your neighbours forehead a few inches larger to protect against legal action. Im not a lawyer though, not legal advice.

If you model it after the blueprint and make any slight change I can't see how how can litigate against you provided you don't include the architectural plans themselves anywhere in your project.
The plans themselves are copyrighted but as far as I understand you cannot copyright a suburban American home with, for example, an open concept kitchen and 6'x8' mudroom.
When you say "based off" this implies you are creating assets using them as a reference which again I don't think anyone can get after you for so long as you don't reproduce things with such accuracy that it is undeniably a photo of your neighbor.
To model your neighbor it does become tricky, because scanning or modeling from references a real person's likeness without consent is risky.
I understand that this probably complicates things for your creative vision, because if you need to make protective modifications to your neighbors home, decor & person then it may not have the right game feel. This is a classic gamedev dilemma, you'll need to tweak and adjust things as you go to strike a good balance. I don't know how much legal protection you get from this but shows like South Park and Family Guy would include a disclaimer where "No real people are represented here it's just a coincidence if it seems like they are" and they would draw pictures of people and speak in mock versions of their voices and discuss real events of their lives.
Really depends on the scope of your project.

I hate indie game developers. I hate indie games. I hate people who play indie games.

So often it happens that I play a trash game and think how the developer should be ashamed they dared to release such garbage, followed by checking the reviews to see people liking it. Have people just accepted the terrible quality that amateur devs put out these days? I want to play the good shit, and digging through the bad shit is difficult because everyone praises it anyway.

I added dodge rolling and floor telegraphs.
My idea was that you'd have an "Intuition" level that as you level it up the range increases for how far you can see enemy telegraphs and hurt boxes. Think of it like a spidey-sense you can level up like a MMO skill, but idk if the range is too short to start with.
Also for your own player's hurtbox I have it so it just renders the segments that are relevant (ie near an attack or enemy hurtbox or map boundary) rather than rendering all the time for visual clarity but idk if that just made it worse. Need feedback

I have the quest system up and now npcs give quests if their dialogue is tagged to. It is a name tag that checks if it belongs to a quest via a data table and adds it to the active quest array and quest hud widget.

some progress on a playable map, rolling plain with some hills and forested areas. implemented interactive foliage, I had much higher tree density before this but that actually just nuked my editor.
I wanted wooded areas to slow down mechs/vehicles moving though, while not forcing the player to actively dodge trees, so they just apply a speed penalty based on tonnage vs tree size, and push the mech to the side, Better for AI as well since I wouldn't have to do any sort of local avoidance.
They don't provide actual cover vs laser or projectiles, but they provide LOS cover for the sake of sensor checks, and are destructible by attacks passing though or sufficiently heavy mechs.
Performance cost isn't awful right now with all 3d trees, it's like 2ms per frame for like 10k trees from profiling, hopefully I can bring that down to under 1ms after billboarding and maybe simplifying the colliders.

It's different if it's full on space fantasy but if you're trying to mix medieval fantasy with technology it rarely goes well. I know you've already got good feedback on the hand and resolution, so here's something to consider regarding both of these:
The hand sticks out sorely because of the bright lighting making it look high res. You should limit the colors on screen to a fixed palette to make everything look consistent and it also allows you to establish your own aesthetic (kino).
Limited colors are regarded by future fags as a limitation that we are better off without but older games are all improved by them. If you're going for a retro low res type of aesthetic a limited palette is required to avoid looking like nu-retro slop.

IMO, "anime" itself isn't bad, but it's just fairly amateur in both design and rendering by 2026 standards. It's quite obviously designed by some westoid without enough asian genes, whereas every random chinese studio is shitting out new anime characters with way more appeal every other day. Assuming that's a full screen screenshot, the graphics design is also very amateur (layout, alignment, font size, etc). Those are two things that will immediately jump out someone scrolling through the Steam page which tend to kill your chances of them actually bothering to try the demo.

this is why every indie dev today is playing the xitter algorithm game, it's singificantly cheaper money-wise.

I didn't do my full 5-hour quota yesterday so now I owe 1100 minutes of work.
Yesterday I implemented pulsing/glowing to buttons so as to give the hint to the player about what they're supposed to do. Yellow paint on UI. I was on the fence about it given that my previous games let players figure things out for themselves. So I did the least practical most time-wasting thing: I thought about it for a long time, implemented the feature and then decided not to use it. I could do an A/B test to see which version gets players to stick better but in the past I was just like "yeah they'll figure it out or they're dumb shits who cares" and it didn't matter. Even when I A/B tested things, the results were most often inconclusive. I need to regain some of that confidence.
128 days left. I don't think this will be enough for a minimally viable game but it is what it is.

game idea: "Data Centers 2077". Data Centers are the new metaphorical "Medieval Castles" that villages exist around. In extreme poverty. The Earth is a desert, data centers provide the only drips of water. Everyone works for the Data Center, which no longer has ANY human management and is 100% ran by AI 1000x more intelligent than today. People worship the Data Centers and the AI "Gods" inside. The AI has decided humans around the Data Center can exist, the reason I haven't come up with yet, some sort of expendable slaves, maybe high electromagnetic zones that machine can't enter due to sensitive electronics, and expendable humans are sent in. Humans are the lowest caste. Literally any position of power even 1 step above them is an AI. Humans have no rights, if you cause trouble an AI drone or robot "dog" kills you.

AI has determined humans living outside the Data Center "Medieval Village" can now exist. Rural area is off limits. It's a desert anyway, but what little water remains out there is for the Data Center not humans. So another job humans are tasked with is to go out and KILL wild humans and also genocide animals that are drinking the water.

So we got a mix of concepts popularized in Warhammer 40K, Mad Max, and who knows what else.

Anyone know how to setup a rig in blender in the style of mario64/jack&dexter with "detached" limbs so that you can scale and stretch stuff but still control parenting?

Yes, automate it. If the assets are pre-rendered from 3D, you should render a normal pass from the same camera, same frame range, same transparency, same sprite crop. Don’t use a normal matcap as the final method. A matcap is basically a view-dependent lookup texture, not a clean normal encoding, so it can look close but it will bite you once you actually light it.

What you want is a material or render pass that outputs normals encoded as RGB. Take the surface normal, transform it into whatever space your 2D lighting shader expects, then remap from -1..1 to 0..1 with:

rgb = normal * 0.5 + 0.5

For most 2D games, view/screen-space normals are easiest. X points right, Y points up/down depending on your engine convention, Z points toward the camera. That means your light shader can treat the sprite like a little relief object facing the screen. If the sprite can rotate in-game, you either rotate the normal map with it or use object/tangent-ish space and handle that in the shader.

In Blender, the practical setup is: duplicate your render setup, replace all materials with an emission shader driven by the normal, transform world normal into camera/view space if needed, remap it to color, render to EXR or PNG with color management disabled/standard/raw. Also render alpha from the same pass so your normal map lines up perfectly with the sprite.

The bottom half of your image is basically the kind of thing you want, but make sure it’s not color managed and not coming from a lighting/matcap approximation. Normal maps are data, not color. Save/import them as non-color, no sRGB conversion, no compression artifacts if possible.

So yeah, it’s very automatable. Render beauty, depth, mask, normal, maybe roughness/height all from the same scene. Painting by hand is only for 2D art that never existed as geometry.

You gotta think about how the bones influence the verts. On the right side on that gif the left (inner) side of the joint has the top vert 100% on the top bone and the bottom vert 100% on the bottom bone that's why they're following the movement exactly and collapsing into the geometry. The middle example is laid out similarly on the inner but because there's the triangle topology with the extra verts on the outside they can be painted 50/50 to allow for a more natural bend.

It hasn't changed. 10 years ago YoYo Games moved it from Pascal to C++ and replaced interpreter with bytecode. That's where the x2 speed increase comes from. Essentially it's the same thing. Core architecture hasn't changed. You would know this would you do as little as decompile a single game.

Honestly I struggle with it. Something something sense of adventure. The castle serves as a clear direction, goal of the adventure but the world opening to view before it gives off this promise of the unknown possibilities that await. The art style plays into nostalgia and old school fantasy art. It feels like something you might have imagined a game to be when you saw its box art back in the day. A childhood fantasy given form.

Some things would have to be 3d meshes or voxels to work and it would have to utilize LoDs to make stuff look right at a distance. Even with trees and such I worry that billboards might look off up close unless you had multiple angles of them at which point you'd be looking at pre-rendered assets which would be hard to get looking right to give this feel. On a technical artistry level it's quite the challenge to get looking like that.
