125 days left. Yesterday I did some UI work, can't say it was time well spent. Looking at the to-do list, I realize there's nothing on it I'll enjoy doing. From now until release it's just a slog. Make UI, add a big of content, tune physics, fix bugs, repeat. At least there's no marketing/advertising. I've completely given up on even trying. >>568337245Well anon maybe step one is don’t try making a game that costs a billion dollars to make. You have a plan for art. Estimated how long every single asset in your game will take to make to a level you could release it. Have a plan for programming. List every major system. How long will it take program. Double the estimate. Figure out all the extras. Game play trailer. Demo. Dialogue writing. Voice actors to hire if you’ll have any. Marketing. Double that estimate. Figure out how much time you have to program. But honestly this should all just be obvious. So maybe just keep it as a hobby.
>>568336332Now would be the worst fucking time to switch to unreal imaginable
>>568337689Well, maybe just make a trailer or just have 15 seconds of exciting gameplay like the example above had. Post on X. It’s actually a pretty cool looking game. With a little polish and like, a completed game loop, it looks almost like a proper Nintendo game. A mini game.
>>568337689>Would love to know some examples of how to market a game like this if you have any.well you already named one, nuns and guns... then there's motorslice, of recent fame... basically, lean in on your tranime girls for the gamercunts to salivate over (but don't do straight porn, just slight sexualization here and there) and get active on whatever social media you want (xitter, youtube, instagram - whatever). the very basic jist of it is that you want to make sure as many people know about your game as possible, but there isn't a uniform solution for this, ESPECIALLY in gamedev. you gotta think about what your game has and what's the best way for you personally to do this.
>>568336973I think you just lie about it, or avoid talking about it. I would just go ahead and use it if you think it makes the game better and there’s no reasonable alternative. BUT also don’t write off non AI too quickly. A little money can go a long way in certain situations. And you might get better results. But that’s a case by case thing.
>>568329631I "Caveman" this stuff to be honest. how the fuck they did that terrain? I'm pretty sure it's some sort of a procedural generation with textures applied automatically, theres no way someone sculpted and textured all that shit by hand

wtf I love heightmaps now
>>568339535To make low poly heightmap terrain in blender:>Create new object: Grid>Give it 128x128 divisions in the bottom left pop-up (don't know what this box is called) More or less divisions for the terrain resolution you want>Scale it up to be the size you want your level>Add a displace modifier to the grid object>Add new texture in that modifier >Importantly, set the "Coordinates" item to "UV" (I believe it defaults to Local)>Go to the bottom tab, it's a checkerboard looking thing, open your heightmap image here under "Image" the same way you'd add an image texture in a material>Return to your modifier and tweak the displace modifiers value for Strength til you like itYou can import it to Godot after this and add collision to the object there.
>>568342384Being able to use AI also signals an abundance of resources and IQ. I find AI art to be karma. My ENTIRE LIFE I was told art is subjective. It can be anything. To care about quality was the sign you were a simpleton. To desire a sculpture from Michelangelo over some chick who opens a studio for 24 where spectators can watch her piss and shit herself, is the sign you don’t understand art. But now that a computer can make art all of sudden I hear “omg this minor technical detail is incorrect, that means the entire piece is SHIT. IT IS FUCKING SLOP because it’s not a technical masterpiece! Artists can go fuck themselves.
>>568342917just did that>>568342838now the uncomfortable part, making a shader that automatically applies cliff texture to cliffs etc
>>568342618Problem is, what if nobody sees it?
>>568319151There's a hentai game general on /d/, /vg/, /h/ and even /co/, where you can probably find a more willing audience. /d/ is super chill and corruption seems like up their alley, /h/ and /vg/ are a bit brainrotten and generally only consume NTR but they're still okay otherwise, can't comment on /co/ one since I don't go there often. (I'm not saying you shouldn't post here, just in case you want more players. I'm doing nofap right now so I can't play your game.)

>>568343548Idk, I don’t think anyone seeing it is likely
>>568343059I would do a limited amount of work. Perhaps a blog, a demo, a Twitter page where you just post into the void. Contact streamers to play it if it’s a genre they are into. Have a Steam page with some good images up. Look up how to make a decent trailer. There’s many low energy steps you can take to at least get 100’s to thousands of eyes on your game. And maybe that translates to one buy. But at least you tried. And then it’ll be easier the second game.
