Have cobbled together handling and camera control setup in unreal that feels like Driver 2, which is what I'm aiming for, getting this closer to the shape I want it to be, next up will be modelling and rigging one of the boss fights so that I have a playable demo

Hard to say, I'm doing it between work and gf, and still learning the tools so stuff takes longer than I'd like. I'll keep sharing progress on vg as I go.
The end-goal is a soulslike driving game with big boss battles, tho unlike Gripper - one equivalent I've found - the camera view won't switch to a top down arena in boss battles, and the physics are more realistic. The way I have it in my head might not be fun enough in an actual game.

You are genuinely retarded. AGI existing means everyone is unemployed and big companies with capital gobble up everything because small businesses get no edge.
>Decades of game RnD and allow smaller teams to compete
That was the case since like 2016, you can make masterpieces in teams of 2-5 people. And games RnD is bullshit, we figured everything good out in 2018 and since then the only RnD happening was how to convince gamers to spend more money on skins or gambling. Also AGI could generate the whole game without even a prompt, just looking at you is enough to figure out perfect game for you.

125 days left. Yesterday I did some UI work, can't say it was time well spent. Looking at the to-do list, I realize there's nothing on it I'll enjoy doing. From now until release it's just a slog. Make UI, add a big of content, tune physics, fix bugs, repeat. At least there's no marketing/advertising. I've completely given up on even trying. GTA VI is coming out in November and I'm supposed to be shilling my piece of shit game? Get the fuck out of here, I won't spend even 3 minutes on marketing.

How do you go about picking these color choices? They fit just perfectly or at least it feels that way, mine usually don't come out like this when I make tilesets. Though now that I think of it my current game might not actually work with this style given the vision I have for mine I think I need some more detailed given its nature. Though that's not to say that pic is ugly, it's great. You have a much better grasp on color choices compared to me.

>Everyone was unemployed during COVID
Non-essential workers were and literally everyone knew it was just temporary so giving you unemployment pay check for a year and half was not hard political decision. AI when it finally causes gigantic unemployment will be different because those jobs are gone forever. Also perfect game does not exist but you could generate infinite high quality games for nothing, there is literally no market for new games after that happens, and luddites will just buy old games.
>>568318068

>no anon you have to get rich, no time to game, go wirkon your game or get a job!

Grass is always greener and all that. But being able to live without having to be employed is a privilege and a luxury few adults can afford.

I don't even post my game on twitter but I assumed that's the place to go besides discord. At least the mentally deranged can be blocked and making new accounts is time consuming compared to them using a vpn on 4chan. Just look at that one psycho that hates us yet joins the discord and fumes when they ban him. Yet he keeps rejoining and lurking but doesn't dare speak since he's so easy to spot. Would not be surprised if he's the one that posted all that stuff about Acrolyte anon which resulted in his team abandoning him. I told them to gatekeep the discord but last I saw they haven't. Ya well, a think certain people are better equipped to succeed than others. And I might be one. INTJ. IQ high enough for the industry. Not claiming to be super high IQ, but smart enough to program. Industrious. No vice other than women, which I'll exclude during this time for the most part. I know how to live cheaply and yet healthy. Also like I said, a paycheck doesn't really do anything. You need to work 40 years to amass anything of note. So taking off a couple years to try to live out a dream is imo really not much of a risk.

How do I sperate myself from the pajeet way of thinking about gamedev which is always to make something way out of scope.
How do I get to like this hobby? Actually enjoy myself.

Some context for such a retarded basic question: Started learning gamedeving a few years ago to make a GTA clone... My autism actually lead me to learn the whole thing (from sculpting, to rigging, to animating, to coding, etc.). I'm not enjoying working on my project anymore cause it's too big. >>
>>568337245
Well anon maybe step one is don’t try making a game that costs a billion dollars to make.

You have a plan for art. Estimated how long every single asset in your game will take to make to a level you could release it.

Have a plan for programming. List every major system. How long will it take program. Double the estimate.

Figure out all the extras. Game play trailer. Demo. Dialogue writing. Voice actors to hire if you’ll have any. Marketing. Double that estimate.

Figure out how much time you have to program. But honestly this should all just be obvious. So maybe just keep it as a hobby.
>>
>>568336332
Now would be the worst fucking time to switch to unreal imaginable
>>
>>568337689
Well, maybe just make a trailer or just have 15 seconds of exciting gameplay like the example above had. Post on X. It’s actually a pretty cool looking game. With a little polish and like, a completed game loop, it looks almost like a proper Nintendo game. A mini game.
>>
>>568337689
>Would love to know some examples of how to market a game like this if you have any.
well you already named one, nuns and guns... then there's motorslice, of recent fame... basically, lean in on your tranime girls for the gamercunts to salivate over (but don't do straight porn, just slight sexualization here and there) and get active on whatever social media you want (xitter, youtube, instagram - whatever). the very basic jist of it is that you want to make sure as many people know about your game as possible, but there isn't a uniform solution for this, ESPECIALLY in gamedev. you gotta think about what your game has and what's the best way for you personally to do this.
>>
>>568336973
I think you just lie about it, or avoid talking about it. I would just go ahead and use it if you think it makes the game better and there’s no reasonable alternative. BUT also don’t write off non AI too quickly. A little money can go a long way in certain situations. And you might get better results. But that’s a case by case thing.
>>
>>568329631
I "Caveman" this stuff to be honest. For that palette, I used Aseprite, locked color mode to Indexed, and then basically just messed around with hue/saturation values of individual indexed colors until I liked the result. Tertiary/triadic color schemes are a good thing to fiddle with especially in my opinion.

wtf I love heightmaps now
>>
>>568339535
To make low poly heightmap terrain in blender:
>Create new object: Grid
>Give it 128x128 divisions in the bottom left pop-up (don't know what this box is called) More or less divisions for the terrain resolution you want
>Scale it up to be the size you want your level
>Add a displace modifier to the grid object
>Add new texture in that modifier
>Importantly, set the "Coordinates" item to "UV" (I believe it defaults to Local)
>Go to the bottom tab, it's a checkerboard looking thing, open your heightmap image here under "Image" the same way you'd add an image texture in a material
>Return to your modifier and tweak the displace modifiers value for Strength til you like it
You can import it to Godot after this and add collision to the object there.
>>
>>568342384
Being able to use AI also signals an abundance of resources and IQ.

I find AI art to be karma. My ENTIRE LIFE I was told art is subjective. It can be anything. To care about quality was the sign you were a simpleton. To desire a sculpture from Michelangelo over some chick who opens a studio for 24 where spectators can watch her piss and shit herself, is the sign you don’t understand art. But now that a computer can make art all of sudden I hear “omg this minor technical detail is incorrect, that means the entire piece is SHIT. IT IS FUCKING SLOP because it’s not a technical masterpiece! Artists can go fuck themselves.

I would do a limited amount of work. Perhaps a blog, a demo, a Twitter page where you just post into the void. Contact streamers to play it if it’s a genre they are into. Have a Steam page with some good images up. Look up how to make a decent trailer. There’s many low energy steps you can take to at least get 100’s to thousands of eyes on your game. And maybe that translates to one buy. But at least you tried. And then it’ll be easier the second game.

You're not going to believe me, but that's not me. Perhaps that anon and I happened to save this same image off of /pol/ at the same time. I'm not against gacha titles, but I've also never found the time to play any myself (unless you count PoE as gacha). Genshin has been on my to-study backlog for almost a decade now.

I've been using Suno for musicgen. Kind of janky but simple process of feeding it my shitty 20-30 second melodies/beats and running covers, then editing the covers, cutting them in half and re-arranging the haves, then re-generating the cutoff points to create loops.
I like AI for entertainment purposes, but I figured if I'm going to be generating music for fun, why not use it for placeholder? Not like I'll ever finish anything anyways!

Merit posters don't understand that success is not based on talent and quality.
Luck posters don't understand that it is not a matter of random chance.
Enter the Circumstance poster, a true modern gentlemen for the amateur game development era. The Circumstance poster understands that a complex web of past, current and future events conspire to determine the outcome of all things.
My game will not succeed because I worked hard, or because I was lucky, it will succeed because it has been preordained. The Divine Right to Dev.

I think it's insane to spend more than like $500 on a game before you're making any money from gamedev. For your second or third game yeah sure but the first one? Fuck no. Keep it minimal. 100 bucks for the Steam fee, maybe some on the capsule art if you can't manage it yourself and possibly some on assets if there's something that fits your game and making it yourself would take too long to justify it vs the cost of the asset.

If AI helps you finish a project and you can still make it something worth selling then fuck yeah go for it.
>>
>>568359882
>b-b-but the game didn't succeed instantly
>what do you mean people have to find the game to know if it's good or not? people should just inherently magically know!
That's the trick. If you find a good game that isn't successful, it'll soon be successful, like with Banquet for Fools. A guy found it and it wasn't successful, then it was.
>>
>>568342543
It only implies it. I think it's something do with our monkey brain. From a biological perspective a male engaging in artistic pursuits would suggest he's got it so good he can afford to do so = he has resources and he doesn't have to starve. Your caveman can't afford to be painting cave walls all day if he doesn't have his food source sorted out. Your starving artist archetypes still get bitches because of this if they're not the schizo kind.

You don't control the dice, because you don't control the hand that rolls them. Your actions are determined before you take them. Free will has been disproven in the laboratory using split brain psychology, where electrodes create a barrier within the brain revealing a second and distinct individual operating within you unknown to your conscious mind. When they report their favorite color is Blue, but see that they have written Green, they immediately walk back their choice and say I must have misspoken, it is Green. Free will fags believe their conscious mind is a director but it is infact a 24/7 coping mechanism of the mind to process information that it's receiving late and then justifying the actions taken.
Within you is the Yesdev who lives your life, and what you perceive as yourself is the brains Nodev bocchi poster shitting up the place.
