>What the heck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as Age of Decadence, A Hat in

Time, Axiom Verge, Baba Is You, Battle Brothers, Battlerite, Card City Nights 2, Cave Story, CrossCode, Cultist Simulator, Darkwood, DashBored, Dead Cells, The Desolate Hope, Disco Elysium, Environmental Station Alpha, FTL, Guacamelee!, Hollow Knight, Knytt, LISA, Lobotomy Corp, Machinarium, Middens, Monolith, Monster Train, Noita, OFF, OneShot, Rimworld, Rain World, Slap City, Slay the Spire, Starsector, Subnautica, Sunless Skies, Tooth and Tail, Underrail, VA-11 HALL-A, Yume Nikki, etc., as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Pillars of Eternity, Rayman, and Valkyria Chronicles. /jrpg/ is welcome. Idle games are cool too.

Mobile or consoles, Flash or Unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads, however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

>necrotyrant
By the way, before going for necrotyrant I tested the new vampire option for immortality and they're kinda lame.

First of all it fucks up your portrait. Not like necrotyrant which changes the whole thing into necrotyrant face with its cheerful skeletal pepsodent smile, no, it just uglifies your existing face.
Second, vampires still have to drink. And drinking blood is far more tedious than water which is mostly automated. That said. going beyond the starving point while traveling didn't seem to have any adverse effect. Maybe you can just ignore the whole thing.
Third, vampires aren't actually immortal, just unaging. You die if you are killed.

Just got the Scanner Room and so far it's the best thing ever.
Would it be a dumb idea to build a mini-base with a fabricator, med station, radio, planter of edible food, and a scanner station at every lifepod just to serve as safe base camps to explore from?

I'm 10+ hours in, have most of the parts needed for a seamoth, prawn, and cyclops, but somehow overlooked the laser cutter because I always just swam over the biome its parts were in because there didn't seem to be much going on there. Built a scanner room, set it to find scannable objects, and now my map is lit up with the things and I'm sending scouting cameras to explore cave systems and shit.

The Scanner Room pointed me right at all of the parts I needed to scan for it, so now I've got it, and I also noticed a possible scanner upgrade to add its output to the HUD, so I think I get what you mean.
I'm breathing a sigh of relief, too, because Stalkers keep dragging my cameras off. Sometimes they even approach my base and rip them out of their docking pods.

I picked up this game (Dungeon Clawler), Die in the Dungeon, Clover Pit, and Raccoin all around the same time back when there was a mega sale on all those games. Gotta say these goofy little games are a damn good time killer.
>>
>>568661378
Scanner room is the goat, especially at max range upgrade.
It can be a bit of a pain to look at the map sometimes. I wish there would have been some system where a network of scanner rooms could add a map to your hud in the lategame or something.
Also exploring some areas I was too scared off with drones first was absolute kino
>at every lifepod just to serve as safe base camps to explore from?
at evyer lifepod sounds a bit overkill to me, but nobody can stop you. I think I ended up having about 4 outposts in different areas though.
>but somehow overlooked the laser cutter because I always just swam over the biome its parts were in because there didn't seem to be much going on there
that's what happened to me with the multipurpose room, I found it, but didn't realize you could scan it and went for a longass time living in a tube-base.
>>568670486
>I also noticed a possible scanner upgrade to add its output to the HUD, so I think I get what you mean.
I personally don't like that one because it can get very cluttered fast. What I do is just park a drone next to the item I want to get and then mark the drone on my hud
>Sometimes they even approach my base and rip them out of their docking pods
That's so annoying man. It's funny that they can do that but I think they shouldn't be able to rip them out of your base
>>
Subnautica below zero really feels like a bland downgrade from the first game.
Should have just been an expansion, an extra area accessed from a portal or something.
>>
>>568670886
>that's what happened to me with the multipurpose room, I found it, but didn't realize you could scan it and went for a longass time living in a tube-base
Yeah, I got incredibly lucky finding that early. I feel like it's intended for you to find that location second after being sent to another area, but I just wanted to see how far I could go and the clouds looked funny over there.

I did just find out I also missed the Propulsion Cannon. Its parts are all over the place on the way to the Aurora but somehow I missed them on my first trip there. I think the game just didn't spawn them in, because I check every cargo box I find and can't see myself missing so damn many of them.
Maybe they don't spawn until you find the log with the people talking about the gun? Either way, I've been catching fish by hand for 12+ hours and now I can just yank them straight to me or banish them to the shadow realm and that's a huge QoL improvement.

I still can't figure out what to do with the laser cutter or the Aurora, though. I thought the cutter would let me harvest the big nodes on the seafloor, but they don't. Then I thought it'd let me cut my way into the cargo bay, but still nope. So now I guess I'll see if the Propulsion Cannon can dislodge anything on the ship.

>I personally don't like that one because it can get very cluttered fast.
That's a good point. It kinda sucks when you're trying to find the closest one of something but 3 other things 500m behind it are hiding it.

>It's funny that they can do that but I think they shouldn't be able to rip them out of your base
I thought it was cute the first time I entered my base and saw the HUD marker for a camera just floating off into the abyss. Then it started happening like 80% of the time I returned to base.
>>
fuuck, I effectively wasted my first free day in Voices of the Void and am at risk of getting fined on the second.
They changed the drone so you can just put things in the drone's inventory instead of needing your own box. But the game doesn't tell you that drives still need to be shipped in a box to count as signal. Otherwise you're just selling the drive for 1 credit each.

Anon...
Did you at least save the signals to your computer? Then it would be pretty trivial to send them again.
>>

>>
>>568676843
Fair enough, though I didn't interpret that as "you have to use the box for it to count" to be honest, and it tells you about drive boxes way before you find out that the drone has its own inventory now.
But it's fine, it's not a big setback. As for saving signals, I usually only save the "interesting" ones. I know I could save them to send them in again at higher processing levels later, but that seems like to much of a hassle at the moemnt. Maybe I still should.
>>
>>568673173
Jesus. I went in with a mostly empty inventory, accessed a door I hadn't even noticed on earlier trips with the propulsion cannon, found the last scans I needed for the cyclopes and prawn suit, got a lore dump, got tons of nutrient bars, some posters and toys, and sealed the radiation leak, all in one go. Oh, and the Neptune blueprints. I feel like I catapulted straight over the mid-game and into the early late game.
>>
>>568673173
>and the clouds looked funny over there
hehe nice. I found the one in the cave quite early, I've actually built my main base close to that cave, because I assumed that cave would lead to more late game areas. But I just didn't realize that room was scannable for way too long
>I still can't figure out what to do with the laser cutter
it's to cut open certain doors in wrecks, but I guess it's easy to miss if you're unlucky, because only the doors with the charred texture are cuttable
>I think the game just didn't spawn them in
I remember I had that with a certain plant on my first playthrough. You need it for several things, but most importantly to become self sufficient with drinking water. And I couldn't find a single one until finally one showed up at the very edge of my scanner room range.
I thought they were just that rare, but on a second run I found many of them way earlier, so either I just didn't know what it looked like and ignored it or the item spawns are indeed kinda fucky
>>
>>568678507
Oh yeah, the aurora has tons of shit.
The cyclops is great, definitely among my favorite vehicles in any game I've played. I believe with a few upgrades you can make it basically self sufficient, I think I'd like to try an almost cyclops only run some day.
Also I think all the nutrient bars are there to not fuck people over who went in with insufficient food, so you have enough time to explore everything without starving to death.
>>
>>568677503
>but that seems like to much of a hassle at the moemnt

For some reason the voiceacting of all the guys and the waitress here are so much worse, like they recorded it in a construction container.
So the game has been pretty good. Has a hint system, not too stupid puzzles, even has the quick entry into new screen with double click.
No run makes many animations feel longer taking and the resolution is a bit bad, oh yeah and the speech bubbles and their font are tiny compared to the screen space but nothing major to make it unplayable.

I just spent 3 hours on it and I don't know if I'm just absolutely retarded or it has some very obvious flaws, the thing is like castlevania meets zelda meets dark souls, but it seems to not understand how each part works.

For example, you don't start off with a map. You can get a map later on, but it's nothing like a game boy Zelda map, it's more like an artistic depiction of the whole place, not a grid or anything like that, so after the initial section you are left blind walking around trying to figure out where in the shit you are supposed to go.
Which, hey, makes sense in those three types of games right?
Except here "tools" (IE: the castlevania sort of weapon that can fall of chandeliers, like throwing axes etc) can enable paths and chests. There is no way to mark the location of these anywhere.
And it has the "if you get killed by an enemy you have to kill him to retrieve thing" mechanic. It doesn't go straight into currency, but you are permanently handicapped until you kill that guy. It's not very fun to get 2-shot by a guy you found while exploring, there is no "walk in, get souls, get out" kind of thing, you are just fucked, this is ridiculous given that...
Player power is totally tied to "souls" (bones). Damage, tech, heals, defense, etc etc, it all comes from the same place. So the game:
-Helps you fuckall in exploration
-Punishes exploration
-Requires exploration
It just feels really really dumb

>>568711350
Weapons! I've only tried the initial 3, but these seem sorta dumb too. You've got the daggers which are the usual "attack fast, short range" thing, the whip which is a bit slower but has like double the range or more, and the hammer which is the slowest, hits the hardest, has a whole small moveset and is barely usable because the whole game is faster than that.
The game is clearly meant to be started with the whip. There's just no contest. I don't know why they let you choose, it's a stupid thing to do, the daggers would be okay if it wasn't for the retarded fact that each time you hit with them, you get pushed back, so you can't ever just stay there and deal damage.

Secondaries, again, are like castlevania, you break shit, they temporarily are set in your bar and you can use them. I don't know who decided it'd be interesting if these had anything to do with reaching places, but that person doesn't deserve their job. It comes with the extra retarded consequence of there being secondaries which are actual weapons and secondaries which are about movement, like a stupid fucking bike.

My grip with the goddamned game so far is that there's like a million things in the game that feel off and there's nothing I've found so far which I feel is actually GOOD. I just don't know what the saving grace of this game is, at least so far,
>>
>>568712456
>>it's soulslop rollslop
Oh I forgot to mention this.
It has no rolling. There's a sort of iframes mechanic, in which you can burrow and move while burrowed, but in general the game went the silksong route of having very rewarding, polished combat, only it doesn't feel rewarding and doesn't seem to be polished either.

I just don't fucking know man. Maybe it gets good at some point. Maybe it's just not for me. But if their company is really hanging on this one title then holy fucking F

>>
>>568713460
There's some stuff I've done related to the burrow mechanic which could sorta be called a puzzle, but it feels abusing the term.
Like you can grab a trampoline and position it to make a jump.
There's another section in which you have lava puddles and you can burrow around to make a path for the lava, which can break rocks and stuff

If you are thinking stuff like shooting at specific points in a room or anything like that then no.

You know, there's dime a dozen cleaning games, but I think this is better than al of them because there is actually context surrounding the cleaning.
Reminds me a bit of the potion-game video that one /egg/head YouTube man made, where he argued that there needs to be context for the potion making for the potion to be valuable, but can you even still called it a potion game at that point when it's just one mechanic of many?
>>
>>568713460
>>568714215
Oh but actually, another thing that gets on my nerves.
One thing that IS actually present in the game is platforming sections. You fall, you take damage, the usual.

Only the healing mechanic in this game is 100% tied to dealing damage to enemies. Not like HK or Silksong in which you fill up a bar which you then use to heal, first you take damage, THEN when you deal damage to enemies you fill your bar with a different color and THEN if you "flask" you can actually heal.

Meaning, platforming scenarios often provide no healing method. There's a flower that can drop here and there which does the "fill the bar" thingy, but generally it's just dangerous as shit.
>>
>>568698480
The more I play it, the more I consider to play it on youtube, because constant tension is exhausting, these mannequins are freaking me out, I don't feel safe in the base and always afraid of something jumping out at me.

I've gotten used to it, a little, but still got two little sppoks in the base today. And I'm definitely too scared to explore too much outside the base, especially trying to get into the bunker in the parking lot.

I haven't played too much of it yet, but I think a lot of "action" only happens if you seek it out. But regardless from the second you get to the facility you do get the feeling that something is deeply off about this place: why is it abandoned? Why are you there alone even though the facility is clearly made for a whole team of researchers? Why is a SETI installation in the middle of a valley actually I'm not sure if that one is intentional, or I'm just autistic and so on

The controls are painfully ass, the whole burrowing thing and hitboxes are fucked, I really don't know what they were thinking, what a fucking shame.

The thing about them is that they won't actually hurt you unless you set them on fire.
If you want to deal with them, you can destroy them with melee, however a single one will always respawn.
But there's a pathfinding bug that may or may not have been fixed that causes them to be unable to move,
if you throw them into the river(not the lake).

yeah, ok. i think i got enough yunyun.
While i could resonate with the whole "failing to fit in and falling into escapism well into adulthood", as a rhythm game it is pretty standard. maybe even below.
I like the whole denpa music selection. but 4 Button always resorts to absolute button spam on higher difficulties. i can't stand that.
The menuing is crap. the music select screen could do with some more sorting methods. or even remembering what song you were on last. or being consistent with the selected difficulty when switching between songs.
i could just use the cheat keyboard to get all the remaining conspiracies but i don't even wanna bother doing that.
I think NGO's raising sim gameplay was better for just telling a story.

I'm100% sure there's people practicing speedruns as we speak, yeah.
Besides that, if one looks at this:
https://steamdb.info/franchise/Shovel+Knight/
It seems shovel knight peaked at less than 3k players (which sounds weird to me but should be correct?) while Mina is now around 10k so that should be okay?
I don't know man, apparently I did the fourth or fifth dungeon as the first and I'm just cruising through the game now, it feels pretty absurd.
I thought there was going to be a fishing minigame because there was a guy with a rod and he gives it to you but it's not really a fishing minigame at all, it's like a "you can get items and collectionables from bodies of water" thing.

I have found a couple of minigames though, which were pretty nice.

1. There are rooms for two people
2. Configure your crew roles correctly and that won't be a problem. The sooner you learn to do this the sooner you start getting several hundred% extra efficiency out of your limited crew. Max crew is the main limitation on your ship capability throughout the entire game, and progress is based on unlocking more crew.

Also when it comes to non-logistic jobs where people just sit in one place 24/7, you can just dump their rooms wherever. They don't have to be near their work site.

>Configure your crew roles correctly
Now, what the fuck does that mean?

It doesn't mean squad orders (linking rooms). If your roles are detailed enough you could arguably skip that step altogether.
It means creating your own set of crew roles you're familiar with and can easily use on any ship you design.

My roles look like picrelated. The names should be fairly self-eplanatory, but they are:
- General purpose logistics crew
- "Extra" logi crew with low hiring priority. Useful for keeping ships smoothly functional without manual micromanagement of skeleton crews. You rarely have the exact numbers of crew available to man all your ships 100%.
- Operators who will never touch logi jobs
- Operators who can do logi jobs in a pinch
- Logi crew dedicated to manufacturing missiles and loading launchers
- Logi crew dedicated to batteries (this particular ship doesn't have any, but it's used on others)

I did this many times, but they return. I think they just teleport back near or right inside into the base if any door is open.
I've seen multiple times them inside shortly after returning from the dishes routine: I call the drone, transfer data to a zip drive and put it in the drone, close the rolling door, go back to the main room and one them stands in the the hallway or next to it. No mannequins left in the base, the other doors were closed, so there is only one way to garage and it couldn't sneak past me unnoticed. Maybe the stands are spawn points? I have them in the base.
I have also heard once how garage door made "enter a password -> wrong" sounds sequence (I have changed passwords everywhere long before this), but there were no one behind the door when I opened it.

Yeah, I definitely wasn't expecting to spend so much time, nor to use my tools so much, so the food, water, and batteries made lots of sense.

Something else I noticed was the Neptune blueprints mention being able to release a Time Capsule. I've noticed spelling and grammar errors in the time capsules that lead me now to believe that these are from other players. That when you beat the game, you get to leave a message, some items, and maybe a photo behind for future players. Which seems awesome. And it makes me 1000x more grateful to the random person that left me the electro-charge fins. They've been saving my ass since hour 1, keeping all of my equipment charged without me needing to haul batteries around.

>The cyclops is great, definitely among my favorite vehicles in any game I've played.
I'm loving it so far, but I'm almost scared to use it because it took so much to build. I don't know how easily it breaks if you accidentally ground it or run into a Reaper or something.

I did accidentally pilot it into a space that prompted a "multiple leviathans detected, are you sure you want to be here?" warning and turned right the fuck around and went and built the decoy tube expansion immediately.

oh yeah, those are fun. I sadly don't remember what i put into mine. I always wondered about them though, if there are any safeguards, or you can just completely sequence break some lucky players game by filling it with late-game items.
I guess there are limits to what you can do, since a lot of the progression is tied to finding locations and unlocking vehicles and base parts but still.
>I don't know how easily it breaks if you accidentally ground it or run into a Reaper or something
From memory it's quite sturdy. I don't think I ever had it being full on attacked by a leviathan though.
My favorite memory is trying to stubbornly navigate it through a cave system where I had to literally do it inch by inch, switching between all the cameras and occasionally getting out to look if it'll fit.
Took probably half an hour but it was a lot of fun and I wasn't even mad when I learned there was a much easier entry to the same cave system some ways off.
>multiple leviathans detected, are you sure you want to be here
This one is so funny, because when I encountered it, I didn't even intend to go into that area, just needed to traverse along its edge for a bit. So later I didn't even remember which place that warning referred to, since the voice lines only trigger once.

Okay, so; I have one *major* upgrade left to get, and that's changing my flagship for something better. I know exactly what ship I want and have been doing the sidequest stuff to get it in the background, I finally have the Navigation to control it and I'm free of distractions now. There's other upgrades I can do like improving my equipment or the actual ship or getting bigger and badder ships for the rest of my fleet or grinding my skills and so on, but this is the last major thing.

Problem is, the next and pretty much last step I need to do to get it is to piss the Dutch off so much that they're willing to go to war with me, that they'll send the ship I want to kill me so I can fight back and take it myself. However, I only know two ways to lower my reputation with a nation and the first one of "pirate their ships and trade convoys" kinda works, but it's so slow going that I can't be arsed. My reputation with them is just too high to put into the shitter so casually by doing that.

I had that Factorio/Darkwood dream again. There was this resource patch of valuable scrap I wanted, but it was too close to a big fleshy hive, so I decided to set up some miners at the nearby army depot, mine the ammo from it (this made sense in the dream), and have the ammo hauled to the scrap patch for some turrets. I was clearing out the depot of bisected maw-mutants but it was taking a while because all I had was a shovel, and when the sun started setting a giant bird monster made of oil slid out from under a fuel truck and let out this ungodly droning howl that jolted me awake. I heard it again later and realized it was the horn from a passing train.

I bought crosscode based on you guys recommendation and my power went out, it still hasn't came back since yesterday. I should have guessed it was a cursed game from the tumblr faces alone. Damn you anon! I'm forced to go to a cybercafe to post this warning, do not make the same mistake I did. Do not buy crosscode at -75%. It's a trap. Now I'm forced to go to an mmorpg addicts's den. The waiter asked if I wanted a cafe olai, I almost said yes by accident but I know lai means something like milk and I'm lactose intolerant because of my superior (Asian) genes. So I ordered a latte instead. It taste like piss, I don't even like coffee. I like tea. The superior drink. This place is full of traps, and I'm not just talking about the cafe olai. I'm talking about the weird crossdresser loudly ebegging 2 rows from me. I want to go back home..

i've only played strange horticulture and not antiquities, but it and BoH are pretty different games
horticultural is a lot shorter than BoH, but that's mostly because BoH is a very slow game. it's still long enough for what it wants to do. it's also a lot more puzzle focused, while boh is more about remembering connections and situationally useful things
i certainly liked both, though i wasn't absolutely in love with either. either way i hope you like reading. have you played cultist sim or horticulture?

I'm not actually out of the woods just yet, there's still 4 ships from the original fleet left alive and I did this kinda close to a Dutch port which is sending even more ships after me, I need to let this battered and bruised ship sail itself out while I run interference enough that we can all escape safely.

apparently breaking glass in scavgame to get into pods drops glass shards you have to manually break and that's why I always got shrapnel in my feet when I tried to get into one of them
also, removing glass from your feet is so horribly painful it will make you pass out from pain
it feels a bit inbalanced because you'd think yanking the stuff out would be top priority, then bandage
but you're literally gonna pass out bleeding if you try to take them out, so the best course of action is to literally bandage, then take out half of them, pass out from the pain and remove the rest
feels extremely punitive for no real reason considering you can fall three stories and sleep it off but god forbid you step on a bit of glass
had to down a heroinshroom that was going bad before going under

Also aren't some of Below Zero's biomes just straight up color swapped Subnautica biomes though? I agree that the Below Zero has some nice looking places, but I wouldn't choose one over the other.
>sub 1's story is kinda cool and mysterious but there's barely any story. sub zero has at least SOMETHING going on. Or somethings.
Yeah, Subnautica's story was kinda shit, but it served as a means to an end (guiding the player through the different zones and justifying why you can't just fuck off from the planet) and wasn't overly intrusive.
Remember when the sunbeam got shot down in the first game? That's unironically one of my favorite moments in any game I've every played, because of the just how much restraint the game shows by not commenting on it and just letting it all sink in. If that scene was in Below Zero, I'd bet my kidney they'd ruin it by having the protagonist narrate to the player why this is a bad thing and what you should do next.
The game genuinely treats you as if you're a retard with the attention span of a toddler.

that and you can also have a bottle of "crafting fluids" to save up on space since using them in crafting disregards whether they're inside of a mixed container or not

Give it to me straight: How much of a Souls-like is Mina the Hollower?

I wishlisted the game the day it was announced because I thought we're gonna get a nice Zelda-esque 2D adventure game from the devs of Shovel Knight. It wasn't until the review embargo was lifted that I learned it was a Souls-like. Upon learning this, my enthusiasm for the game plumetted.

How much Souls-like elements are there? Is it like a full-on Souls clone (such as Lords of the Fallen or Code Vein) or is it just light Souls elements that have minimal impact on gameplay? I really don't want to play another rollslop game with 10 year runbacks to bosses.

>Give it to me straight
Getting pegged while you're wearing a schoolgirl uniform is not straight.

>>
>>568883508
>How is that
The game itself is good but holy fuck does it technically barely hang on a thin string. Shit bugs out and breaks all the time. I had quests reset, quest items disappear and teleport into my inventory at random and NPCs flickering in and out of existence.
The only good thing about how buggy broken it is that you can just get the best ending anyway despite not meeting all criteria in your playthrough because it will just break and give you the items need but didn't get.

I've been trying to make crosscode work for over 90 minutes and it really, really doesn't want to cooperate.
On linux: Buggy fullscreen, 3 different controllers have 3 different button layout and none of them match the in-game prompt, mouse+keyboard is not recognized properly, joystick aiming doesn't work on any controller (can only aim up or down).
On windows: Crash on start up, had to switch version to stop the start up crash, controllers still don't work and mouse+keyboard is still not recognized properly, crash when entering the house at the end of the intro.

From what I read online, controller and aiming issues seem to be a very common problem with no clear solution. I found a fix for the fullscreen issue on linux by adding "--use-angle=vulkan" as a launch option and the controller button layout by activating steam input but I can't fix the joystick issue or the fact my mouse and keyboard are not recognized. So I literally can't do the aiming tutorial. I've done the intro section 10 times in a row so I think I'm done for now. I'll check again later to see if I can fix it.

Picked up Dustland Delivery. So far it seems pretty neat, but will probably be a while before I go from learning the game to playing it. Picked up Scholar as my second crewman since my steel donut is sort of a generalist with bonuses to hunting and focus. Cheaper recipe unlock should be nice with his 40int.

Well that was a game. Decent lovecraftian horror story, neat visuals, I'm of two minds about the gameplay, short but a bit padded. 6/10?
I felt it was worth playing on Gamepass but I would've been salty if I'd paid $30 for it. It's clear the dev's vision for the project was broader than what we got.

It kinda is, but also... well, it's early access, so there are issues, but I admit I'm having some fun. There's a comfort system like in Valheim, so you get benefits from decorating your house, unlike Conan Exiles where it's purely cosmetic.
I mean, it speaks volume that you can upload your world for others to visit. I found Rivendell recreated in Enshrouded, for example.

And you get pets.

>or you can just completely sequence break some lucky players game by filling it with late-game items.
I got one was full of reactor rods (before I'd even built a single solar panel) that would come in handy, but I got eaten by a Reaper soon after finding them and haven't had any luck finding them, if they're even still in the game world.

I got eaten after swimming around the Aurora and trying to swim straight back to the lifepod, not knowing there are THREE Reapers hanging out in that region. I built a scanner station on the edge of their territory to see if my dropped items might show up on the scan but so far have found nothing. I don't know if they all drop to the seafloor as individual items or if a floating chest gets left behind or what.

>My favorite memory is trying to stubbornly navigate it through a cave system where I had to literally do it inch by inch, switching between all the cameras and occasionally getting out to look if it'll fit.
Every time I'm tempted to do this I talk myself out of it because my Cyclops just isn't a fully functional base yet. I use it mostly for its cargo hold, and I park it outside caves to use as a beacon to find my way back out. I should probably build more inside of it.

>The radiation line is a time limit mechanic in Scav Prototype. It takes the form of a pair of lines, one red and one blue, which overlap and become purple when the line is close.

>Upon spending one hour in a layer, the radiation line will appear at the top of the screen. The line takes 20 minutes to cross the layer, setting a 20 minute time limit for the player to leave. The player will be heavily irradiated if they stay above the line, forcing the player to move down and exit the layer quickly. The line is marked on the player's depth chart with a red X.

Oh. So basically you don't just die when you have the 1 hour mark, you get heavily irradiated, and you get told when that happens too. That means you can stay a longer time in 1 and 2 than I thought.

I honestly don't even know what the death punishment is. If your items just despawn or what, once you get past a certain point it becomes hard to really die, or maybe I'm just overly careful.

Are there any 3D maps of subnautica caves? I'm going crazy trying to find a way through the twisty-turny mushroom forest cave. I briefly found a passage that led to a different biome but it had a predator in it so I backtracked to my seamoth and now I can't find the way forward again.

>>569013457
Supposedly, you keep everything you had when you last left a base (and maybe the Cyclops), and everything else gets dropped where you died, aside from 1 random item, which you keep in your inventory, or so I've been reading. I only died the one time and don't recall if I held onto a random item and never found my dropped inventory. I just know half my inventory was gone when I respawned, but I still had all the tools I left the lifepod with.
>>
>>569023860
You can pop up a 3d map on the hand held propulsor or whatever the name, Iirc you have to flick the light button twice or thrice. Also a good tip would be to either leave a beacon near the entrance, or use the tool that leave floating guides that you can use as breadcrumbs to find your way back.

>>569038658
you have to luck finding a trader first, I'd rather just make a regular pickaxe. Although I really do dislike that the durability of the items is inherited. Especially since a bunch of items ignore this altogether (canvas and ropes' spoilage is agnostic of how rotted the original was, same as canteens not inheriting how shitty the rope you made them from was etc)
also finding a trader is just luck, which means you rely on digging by hand unless you grind forever or unless you get really really lucky
there could be an intermediate drill that isn't as high tech as the plasma cutter, like a jackhammer or something at int 14
something that's still reachable by most characters without genuinely unholy amounts of grind
because who the fuck's gonna make a titanium pick

also one thing I really disliked on top of the fact that making was the fact that making a belt didn't mean I could repair the existing one
I had a belt (25%)
made a new belt (50%)
can't combine that into a belt (75%)
kind of ass

I've heard they do get dropped into the game world, but if you don't respawn near them and stay near them, they fall through the map and get deleted when you get too far away. It seems to happen frequently enough that a lot of players assume the items just get deleted. Possibly because most people tend to die 1km or more away from their respawn.

6 Niggas In Two Rows Bleak Tactical Turn-Based RPG by the Dread Delusion dev. The main "gimmick" is that the game has permadeath for your companions which would make you think "Then the combat must be challeging". Honestly, I didn't like the game. I've seen people compare it to Outer Wilds and the comparison feels almost offensive to me.

That said, don't focus on the tasks. Yeah the story says you are meant to do the garden yadaa yadaa, well, you don't have to. It does give you a little bit of money if you do, but chances are you are better off exploring and finding out how stuff works, that will eventually make it a bit easier to take care of the garden too.
If you don't care much for mechanically, non-story spoilers: There's an ending for doing the gardening on all three areas. That's about it. You eventually learn a way to water everything instantly with little effort too, so it's better to wait till then.
Also, you can evade some death scenarios by going back to the main menu and in again.
Beyond that yeah fucking jumpscares are retarded. There's an option somewhere to lower the volume of the sounds that play through them. It doesn't stop me from thinking they are dogshit, but it makes them more tolerable.

What the fuck? This is the type of shit I expected to see in Full Throttle.
And here I was happy to finally get to be on adventure with both of them instead of just Mr American. Nico just had been sitting at home all game after the intro chapter. Hope that changes in the sequels.

And now they kissed for real after a suddenly very rushed ending with random gunshots and magic real confirmed.
Good game tho. Impressively well aged for a game its age, directors cut from 2009 and original from 1995.
Negatives are lack of proper screen resolutions so you just have to go fullscreen and many things do look blurry, elying on roman numerals as puzzles sometimes and that despite featuring 2 playable protagonists you never get to play them together for duo puzzles.
The game has a great hint system that doesn't reveal everything at once and most puzzles flow really well on its own, fully voiceacted and great across the game, dialogue and inventory system that is not bloated verb system and some really nice backgrounds and occasional humour.
Definitely going to play the whole quintology and apparently there was a 6th announced but no date in sight.

its very fun if you are into building stuff. Basically a colony/city builder with a little /egg/ and fluid manipulation. Instead of just storing water in storage buildings, for example, you build dams and reserves on the map, upstream.

I always say it's Minecraft buy good, if you're in the target audience and Minecraft but boring if you aren't.
I personally think it looks better, because it adheres to the voxel grid less strictly and has lots of particle effects, things reacting to the wind etc.
Other than that it just has more attention to detail. Soils has fertility stats so you need to rotate crops, your max HP is tied to how diverse your diet ist, there are seasons and your first medium term goal is to stockpile enough food to make it through winter. I also like how crafting actually takes space, in MC you could beat the entire game out of a 3x3 dirt cube at least last time I've played, which was still before 1.0 to be fair, in VS the devs said they want for as much of the crafting as possible to happen "in the game world" instead of an inventory screen of some crafting station. So while in MC you'd build a smithy purely for your own enjoyment as its crafting stations are functionally identical to the aforementioned 3x3 you probably already have, in VS that building can actually sever a purpose, by having room for your various tool molds, anvil, forge, crucible, bellows etc
Another thing that lots of the processes take time. Burning charcoal in a pit, firing clay, waiting for bee colonies to grow and migrate, waiting for the various steps in the leather tanning process, making iron or steel. At first I assumed that's just because of muh realism, but I think it also serves a nice game design/pacing purpose. Because everything takes time, you can't just focus on a single thing to rush and potentially burn out on, instead the game organically gives you some downtime to go and do other things and engage with other mechanics while waiting for something else.
I could talk about this game for hours as you can tell I know it's not for everyone, but god do I love it.

Vintage Story might have the slowest farming I ever saw in a video game. It is NOT a game where you spend your time in your base, no. You're constantly moving around.
And fuck sake if armour is expensive.
>>
>>569126232
This is why people in the bronze age that had a bronze weapon usually didn't also have bronze body armor.
Industrial capacity almost always exceeded practical supply and the proliferation of ironworking is what allowed entire armies with metal body armor to be regularly fielded.
>>
Does vintage story do that thing some games do where just not getting hit at all is so important that the mobility debuffs of armor turn heavy armor into a trap?
>>
>>569127590
heavy armor is actually really good defensively but only when it's better than whatever's hitting you
otherwise it won't do shit and will fall apart instantly
>>
>>569127590
Heavy armor is very good for protection, but its debuffs make it unviable for regular exploration because the low walking speed and faster hunger rate. It's best used for deep cave diving and exploring story dungeons, because anything there anything can one shot you without armor.
Also the combat is jank enough that not getting hit isn't reliable.
>>
>>569127590
lol no
I wish that was the case, because heavy armor is expensive to make and put a lot of debuffs on you (you get hungry faster, you're slowed down, metallic armor makes you colder), but it's extremely difficult to not get hit in VS. Even the thing I abused, diving into water since the PC swims faster than animals, has been nerfed. And the real enemies? They all have ranged attacks with fast projectiles.
>>
>>569127590
I've heard people argue that leather armor is one of your best option because it allows for mobility. I've never had a full suit of heavy armor for now so I can't speak for that, but like the other anon said, armor isn't something you just wear 24/7 because it also increases your hunger rate, so you just put it on when you're expecting a fight.

Mobility only matters if you are running away from a charging bear. But if you are fighting things head on mobility doesn't matter much, because the hit detection is jank. Being able to tank 20 hits is better than trying to avoid 3. But that's only a problem with high tier enemies. For animals and shallow caves leather is enough.
Although the tailored gambeson is better than leather. It has a minor hunger debuff, but that's practically nothing once you have a full cellar and also a healing debuff, but you can just take the armor off, apply bandage and put it back on. The only real downsides are that it can only be made by a tailor (though you should turn off class restrictions off in sp anyway) and the materials are harder to get.

Depends. VS is very practical: you CAN put tools down, but you have no item that is only here as a decoration. It's not like... Conan Exiles, or ARK or Enshrouded or even Valheim where you have a lot of stuff that is literally just for comfort or for cosmetic: if you see a barrel in VS, you can put stuff in it, if you see a crate or a chest, you can put stuff in them. If you see a bundle of sticks on the ground, it's because someone put them in.
Like, you can put stuff on the ground instead of in a basket, and it does serve a purpose: it only take a right-click to pick it up, so it's very interesting to keep firewood out of chests to easily access it in half a second compared to opening the chest, click on the stack of firewood, move the stack of firewood to your inventory, close the chest.
I hope that answered your question? And to concur on what another Anon said: VS pushes you to make a full smithy, instead of just a forge. Smelting ore into ingots takes a crucicle, ingot molds, and a pair of thongs, but blacksmithing the ingots into tools? That takes a furnace with charcoal, an anvil, a hammer, and if you wanna speed things up, also some water. You can throw hot metal in the water to cool it down instantly instead of letting it cool off on its own.
>>
>>569145613
That sounds good. The game is a bit expensive for me, but maybe I will try it.

I never played most of these games you mentioned, only watched some videos of valheim and that is a thing that bothered me. I disliked The forest, for example, because you start with all blueprints and can easily make stuff, but you are supposed to explore all these scary caves mostly for story reasons, or just for the sake of it.

Tutorial layers?
>takes a hand slot (can be knocked down, encumbering, heavy)
>needs expensive ammunition that can only be found by chance
The only place I would think they're useful is the last layer which has enemies you can't punch or avoid easily

carrying something in an extremely limited amount of slots only because it will be useful at the very end of the game against a certain enemy feels silly, especially since I'm already at my wits' end with inventory management as-is and I have the bare minimum
>>
>>569132417
>hit detection is jank
It's not, it works smoothly without any flaws.
The actual problem is hitboxes. They're straight outta minecraft and in many cases don't match the entity visual model, not even close.
>>
>>569090753
It's literally built on a minecraft mod, which has small tech progression.

I don't like it. I've played the original. It was limited and boring in scope, and only sort of worked in larger modpacks, and even then a lot of the features were more annoying than anything.

It's a silly game for silly people.

The game is poorly balanced regardless. You start out with basically nothing, but you are able to go wherever you want from the start AND you can purchase obscene amounts of power from the start. On top of that, as soon as you get any spark, losing bones means you are probably retarded.

I found most bosses to be button mashing material and I don't think that's meant to be the case.

>>
>>569156439
Let me provide you with enlightenment.
"Open world" is not a game design decision. It's a development workflow decision.

The reason open world games are made is that that choice allows you to make "the lava zone" and "the water zone" and "the tech zone" and whatever-the-fuck you want to make, then just place it somewhere in the world and call it a day, rather than having to build a coherent path that goes through these in a way that makes any sense at all.

Mina for example. You could put anything as the place you reach through train. Anything at all. Does it make geographic sense for a mausoleum to take as much space as any of the other areas? Who cares? You could replace any of these zones and it wouldn't matter at all.

>>569156959
Yeah that's supposed to be the first area as intended. If you want to "follow the path" you can check the newspaper to know where to go next.
My prediction is that you'll end up overpowered either way.

Fair. I'll start another world and try to make an organic house so that you can see how my houses look like, but keep in mind I'm casual and it takes time. And also it's possible to make a cellar.
And food spoilage is a thing.

>I disliked The forest, for example, because you start with all blueprints and can easily make stuff, but you are supposed to explore all these scary caves mostly for story reasons, or just for the sake of it.
To be fair, the Forest's ultimate goal isn't really to survive, but to make it to the end, and you need to explore the caverns to gather all the needed stuff, so survival is just a part of it. Normally.

Vintage Story has no real goal.
For Valheim, Conan Exiles and Enshrouded, you can build a lot, and I do mean a LOT of stuff, but 90% of it is just cosmetic meant to raise your comfort level, which is a buff needed to fight the bosses.
Vintage Story does have some cosmetic stuff, like curtains and carpets, but yeah, I think... 90% of the items have practical uses?

Just realized that headlights do have an on-off switch, it's manually removing the battery with a wrench.
Also, 1 medium battery and 2 small batteries hold the same charge and have the same weight, but medium batteries require an extra step. This means that if you have a material pouch crafting a bunch of small batteries is the best way to go, as it uses less components, and if you have extra crafting components lying around turning all your small into medium works great.
Large batteries hold 3 times as much as medium batteries, but only a select few items can be used with them, which meant I was lightless for a good 15 minutes with the radline coming down on my ass while I was trying to gather components to craft small batteries at the bottom of the world, with 2 large batteries at my name.

Here's how my usual lategame shelter looks like.
By VS standards, though, this is very, very early game, since I only have copper tools, and no preserving jar. Not even an oven.

>approaching endgame
>every form of progression is now a super sweaty, high-stakes journey into the most unforgiving biomes in the game
>hostile leviathans left and right
>tight caves that are hard to navigate
>low visibility, lots of getting lost and swimming in circles
>why the fuck do sonar pings drain 1% power each?
>no clue where to actually go next, so many of these high-stress exploratory journeys do nothing to advance the story and only provide a few more random resources like rubies and magnetite
Must... power... through...

I guess? IDK if grindy is the right word... but when making long hauls I'm constantly
>okay, gotta buy cheap fruit here to sell there for a markup the buy their cloth because the stop 2 cities down the route needs cloth, etc, etc
so making a good bit of scrap on the journey thats only marginally better than my overhead (gas, VIP rooms, tolls, etc). I mean, most settlements don't have a lot of scrap to trade with so you can't really do bulk trades. If I want easy money in large amounts, I do ore procurement deliveries because 300 ore is less than 1k scrap and the missions reward you with 6-9k. Upgrading the truck is kinda expensive, but other than that you really dont need a whole lot of scrap. And the Starlight town is a money printer, so IDK.

Huh. This dune (I'm guessing they're heat-adapted since I only find dune traders in the desert) is actually offering the ice bag component, that means it's technically craftable.

That's one thing I like about Vintage Story, how progression isn't arbitrarily gated behind some research tree or something, but it's 100% based on infrastructure. You "unlock" better stuff to build/craft by finding the prerequisite raw materials, but more importantly having the infrastructure to process it.

I'm trying to watch your videos and write down all the good vania and other good indie but the task is eating all my waking hours. I don't know what kind of automated system you have when editing your videos but I can't keep up. I can't play any of this huge backlog. I just acquire and archive thousands of them. Someone will find them one day on my corpse and hopefully get some joy out of them. Im just too busy maintaining them.
Thanks anyway enjoy your boba tea.

That's actually where having an outpost base came in super handy. I built mine close to that big tree looking ass thing in one of the case, dunno if you've seen that yet.
Which biomes are you currently exploring?
Having an outpost and most of the time venturing out from that in my Cyclops made me feel pretty save actually.
>sonar pings
dude I love that thing so much. Being in dark and murky waters is so incredibly stressful and being able to see out to render distance, even if just for a moment, is a godsend.

>Which biomes are you currently exploring?
I just finished exploring the Underwater Islands and the Blood Kelp Zone in the Northwest. Found two bigass caves I think the Cyclops can fit inside up in the Blood Kelp Zone, but ran into like 3 Crabsquids and had a full cargo hold and prawn suit, so I backed off to unload everything.

I got so much quartz and copper and gold and uraninite that I feel like I could load up a bunch of titanium and lithium and build a base anywhere with tons of power generation and a fully stocked specimen tank to keep me fed, so I'm tempted to build a base down in the brine river or something.

I haven't explored any of the Reaper habitats near the surface yet, but other than those 2 or 3 biomes, I feel like the only unexplored biomes left have gotta be down deep.

>venturing out from that in my Cyclops made me feel pretty save actually.
I just learned that the rotor slices and dices whatever it touches (picrel), so I can definitely understand that now.

>Being in dark and murky waters is so incredibly stressful and being able to see out to render distance, even if just for a moment, is a godsend.
Yup. Sonar has saved my ass twice now. Once in a giant cave system I couldn't see the sides or top of without it, and just now in the Floating Islands biome, because it was so dark down there that I couldn't see the damned islands unless I was 40 feet away from them.

I will say that the extra mobility is excellent and to make a backpack when it runs out you only need sticks and leaves so that's perfectlyfine

my main issue right now is I had a trash bag from one level above that had already shitty durability, and it just broke
and the best craftable container is a foilage bag which is basically garbage compared to anything else
wish I could just rip a backpack to make a ripped bag

>blood kelp zone
yeah, that was what I was talking about last thread, when Is aid there was an area that I didn't dare explore for hours, because it was so dark and oppressive, especially with the music. I've done my fair share of scuba diving irl just being there gave me a phantom physical response of feeling cold. Thought that's funny actually, there were quite a few moments in subnautica where thanks to my actual diving experience I could almost feel what it would be like to be there irl, like I ascending through a tiny cave in the safe shallows and almost feeling like the pressure reduced in my ears and nose, fun stuff
I even scouted it out with drones first, though it added to the atmosphere that it was right at the edge of their range so the footage was super noisy.

>real life diving
Subnautica makes me want to try it, but I don't think I'd ever go anywhere near a cave.

It's a lot of fun, I recommend it. Though sadly the group I used to go with slowly grew apart so I've only been like once since Covid.
It can be a bit time intensive to learn all the ins and outs with the equipment, but that's only if you want a certificate from a reputable institution, I'm pretty sure there are touristy places that let you go on an easier dive without one.
Caves can be fun, but I don't get the appeal of the narrow ones either. I've only been to a couple and some of them just barely qualified as a cave instead of a deep overhang, you could basically see the exits at all times and they were quite wide. Though looking that maybe even that was a bit foolish.
I think one of my favorite things is diving down to wrecks, there's something very impressive about them.

I think my favorite part about it, is how you can stack buildings vertically and create really fun designs.
My goal is to build a beaver favela or Kawloon City
