>>568812883I think the problem is simply that I'm looking at it from the wrong angle. If Amy = "Girl Sonic", then its not about "HER story". The same way its never really Sonic's. Just as Sonic's story in 06 is about Elise, Amy's story in SA1 is about Birdie. The reason she is chased by ZERO, and has the scene with Gamma, is because of Birdie. What pushes Amy to become more proactive and become a heroine is Birdie. I'm never gonna find "Gurren Lagann, but for Amy" because Amy's story is not about growth or evolution that in way. She does grow and develop PHYSICALLY, but not MENTALLY, hence why she is "Girl Sonic". She's as much of a "mascot" character as Sonic is. It's never about what her personal story is, just as its never about Sonic's personal story. It's just about her existing and having agency in whatever story she finds herself in. That's probably why whenever I try and think "what's the Amy-coded inverse to Gurren Lagann", the first thing that comes to mind is Kill La Kill. But the closest match to Amy is Mako. Kill La Kill is not about Mako at all, in any way, she just exists in that world. But she exists in the "Sonic" way of being a living cartoon mascot character that embodies the emotional truth of the narrative and incites change in other characters. But just like Amy, she initially lacks the raw physical capability herself. Yet even when she -does- gain fighting prowess later, she herself never actually changes as a person internally. So I was just looking at things from the wrong angle earlier, and was searching for something that I was never gonna find as a result.
