Okay, here me out, I think I've found a way to "fix" Yugioh and kill all FTK decks. Shared turns. Both players have to take turns taking actions and starting new chains. For example: player 1 normal summons Mo Ye and has the normal summon effect to summon a token, but before they can Syncho summon, player 2 can take his action and Raigeki or start his combo with an Engage. Both players are forced to build their boards at the same time, and it becomes harder to to build up enough disruption to shut down the other player. Quick play spells can only be activated from the hand when that player has the turn priority, and traps can't be activated the Phase they are set instead of waiting for the turn. Both players take turns taking action till they both pass and then the shared Battle Phase starts when ideally they will be more strategy since both players would have a rage of monsters. It's not perfect, but I can see it working.

I don't know nearly enough about card design to even begin thinking about how to implement this, though.The thing is I'm not sure how you would do something like this without having to completely remove and replace the card pool. If people want a game where both players have turns they can go to an older slower format. The game changed from that because the card design prioritized the feeling of comboing and doing multiple actions on a turn and the current cards revolve around that. If each player could only do one action at a time some actions like putting down a floodgate would be much more efficient than others.One idea could be cards with powerful effects or that allow you to do multiple things, but printed on the card text is the effect that they allow your opponent to immediately respond with some other powerful effect or chains of effects. Something in the vein of Gilasaurus or Dominus Spark.
