Here we talk about indie game and sometimes good ones.

I couldn't be assed to copy and past the old OP so here you are. That shits pretty souless anyways.

Current Recommendations: Dustland Delivery, Rock the Ages, Voidtrain, Pacific Drive, Zero Sievert

Alright I'll put my random thoughts about cross code. Spoiler warning for chapter 0 to 5.
The game obviously very, very heavily implies that Lea is Shizuka, which means it's a bait & switch. I've been wondering who is Lea, before I reached the ice village, I thought maybe it was Shizuka's brother and that's why it's based on her, but right when I finished the temple I thought, that maybe, Lea is WAS her brother's project. An AI based on his sister or some shit and that's why Lea gets Shizuka flashbacks when she logs off. Right now Emilie just said that Lea reminds her of an old friend which I suppose was Shizuka. (Yes I'm writing this mid dialogue)
Honestly, as I write this, the AI Lea theory sounds way too obvious. The conversation interruption tutorial is literally about explaining what the Turing test is. Which ironically, Lea can't complete since she can't speak. Sergey's full name is Sergey Asimov and one of the very first conversation you have with him has him talk about how limited the NPC AI is despite how the technology improved. So I guess right now I see only 3 possibilities, Shizuka in a coma (explaining why she seems to not have a real life), Shizuka's brother is in a coma after the intro and is unconsciously playing a character based on his sister, or Lea is an AI based on Shizuka. The company who made the game is obviously doing something, likely collecting data to make robot or some shit, whatever. They have only been mentioned twice from what I've seen but they're clearly involved considering the intro.

>SUPREME ELDER SECT MASTER OF THE HEAVENLY DRAGON ANCESTOR SWORD PAVILLION - david smith
the game itself is kinda decent though, would be good if it had a proper translation. the combat, NPCs, and progression is like tale of immortal but it's trying for an actual open world like hero's adventure. you can also enslave anyone if you beat them, so I'm going to enslave and marry some women because there's ALSO pregnancy and child-rearing in this game. the chinese are wild man.

/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as Age of Decadence, A Hat in

Time, Axiom Verge, Baba Is You, Battle Brothers, Battlerite, Card City Nights 2, Cave Story, CrossCode, Cultist Simulator, Darkwood, DashBored, Dead Cells, The Desolate Hope, Disco Elysium, Environmental Station Alpha, FTL, Guacamelee!, Hollow Knight, Knytt, LISA, Lobotomy Corp, Machinarium, Middens, Monolith, Monster Train, Noita, OFF, OneShot, Rimworld, Rain World, Slap City, Slay the Spire, Starsector, Subnautica, Sunless Skies, Tooth and Tail, Underrail, VA-11 HALL-A, Yume Nikki, etc., as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Pillars of Eternity, Rayman, and Valkyria Chronicles. /jrpg/ is welcome. Idle games are cool too.

Mobile or consoles, Flash or Unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads, however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

Loved this game when it came out, but it lost a lot of the magic once I got better at it and barely died.
I remember at the beginning I had a genuine rivalry with this one spear thrower guy who got promoted from a regular enemy. He rolled a really good combination of traits and I think one of them was that he didn't give you a second chance when he downed you and he didn't have any voicelines, just did those clicking sounds that honest to god drove me mad
And it was really cool that I could genuinely hate a video game character this much purely through some mechanics working together.
But after I got better at the game that kind of stuff just stopped happening

the nemesis system with these captains and warchiefs is pretty cool, but other than that, feels like a worse batman. Wish the ranger guy had more skills to use during combat. Mordor is also bland.

Found some crossbow guy against who my melee attacks didn't seem to work, he was also immune to ranged and stealth, I had no intel on him. I grabbed one of those monsters we can mount, he was scared of caragors and died like a bitch, kek.

I just finished the chapter 7 of cross code and started chapter 8.
I called it, somewhat. Now I really have no clue where the story is going, the frog is pissed at me, Sergey lied, people died. AI prison is real and fucking Apollo Justice is in my party. Saw 66 treasures on the map screen and said, nope. Done for now, I'll play more later. The German AI duplicate was pretty obvious but I liked how Lea reacted by having another breakdown when the real one entered the guild hall. But at this point I have no clue where the story is going. I refuse to believe that the guild will stay mad at Lea but I won't lie, the misery spiral is amusing me.

It's two NPCs, and I don't think they're completely unkillable. They're wearing as special item on their arms, that teleports them away and full heals them at zero HP, cannot be removed, and prevents the limb the item is worn on from being severed. So what you need to do instead is transform them into a form that has no arms, or deliver an attack that causes instand death instead of HP damage. If you succeed, you can't complete the main quest any more, but the bragging rights are surely more important than that.

Chances are I've told it before.
But overall I agree with you. The system is fun and can lead to a lot of cool shit where you need to come up with a plan to kill a dude with lots of resistances. But I feel like sometimes it's not necessary, especially once you get good enough at the game.
>Wish the ranger guy had more skills to use during combat
I remember that you do unlock more moves as you level up, but I think by the end of it I you still kind of slide into one or two simple combos that can kill almost any enemy and everything else is just for showing off.
>Mordor is also bland
There is a second map that looks a bit more interesting and also introduces a new mechanic to the nemesis system that I recommend at least checking out before quitting the game, if you end up being bored by it.

>I'm just stuck in a bad mood, dunno why.
Shit sucks, sounds really dumb for advice, but try accepting it. At least that what works for me, sometimes I feel the same and trying to "force" myself to feel better or figure out why I'm in a bad mood is just counterproductive as opposed to just accepting that that's how I feel right now and it will pass.

I genuinely like FFXIV. I tried a lot of MMOs, but none of them really clicked until I tried it, and genuinely enjoyed it. I like the class variety, the world, the setting... But I don't like how my inventory is constantly full.
>>
>>569434574
Vintage Story, kinda? It's not "hardcore" per se, but hunting is very difficult, farming take ages, so you will scavenge for quite a while. And don't think of stockpiling food: it spoils after a while and you cannot salt it.
Otherwise, Don't Starve? I always starved in that one, I don't think I ever made it to winter. Through it has a lot of fighting, unfortunately.

Others I can think of (Return to Moria, Enshrouded, ARK, Conan Exiles) can be hard, but mostly because of the combat, so they don't count.

Do IV bags not get flooded when they enter a water tile or am I doing something wrong?
That's somehow annoying, a ton of recipes require a quantity that's superior to 1 canteen's worth and the annoyance of most containers is that they get filled with groundwater the moment you put your feet in a puddle, but throw an empty IV into a lake and it won't fill, and I can't seem to find a way to fill it outside of actually transferring fluids from another source.
It's ass because they're the best fluid containers, and I have to use a worse one just to fill'em.
>>
>>569435042
Same. Maybe the problem was that I never really got to the endgame in any of the ones I tried before plus a lot of them where really shitty noname ones, back when everyone wanted to become the next WoW.
Also I think another mistake was getting into them with friends and treating it as a coop game, where we wanted to do every quest there is together, which is a slog. With FFXIV many of my friends were already playing it, so I did a lot of my leveling by myself and we teamed up for dungeons and they would occasionally come help me with quests if they had nothing better to do.
As for the story and world, that was the weakest part for me, I genuinely couldn't have cared less. They've reworked the whole main questline sine I've played, so I imagine it's better now but still, I just didn't give much of a shit.
And I really like how you can just level all classes on one character. Plus crafting and gathering was a lot of fun for me, I loved making all my gear myself.
>>
>>569426409
Oh, I am not planning to quit yet. I am having enough fun to probably finish the game, even if I end up not doing all side content.

>I remember that you do unlock more moves as you level up
Besides leveling up, the skills are locked behind two things: some behind a "power" level, that you earn by killing the named orcs of the nemesis system, and others behind main quests. So far, I have mostly unlocked skills that don't quite improve the variety of the fights, like being able to ride some beasts, or that teleport attack that costs arrows and will probably be used more for stealth and map traversal.

I cannot help but to compare this game to Batman. In the bamham games you have all these gadgets that you can use midfight and its quite fun to mix moves.

>>569435280
>And don't think of stockpiling food: it spoils after a while and you cannot salt it.
sounds like this can get annoying over time, can you at least store long enough for winter? Is there any sort of automation to this game?
>>
>>569437612
>can you at least store long enough for winter?
Oh yeah. But you better start early, grow a lot of grain, and stock it in a preserving bin. If you leave it in a normal basket, it will last until winter but not until new year.
To give you an idea, meat will spoil in days, vegetables in month, but grain could last years.
And years are long.
>Is there any sort of automation to this game?
Not really. You can build a windmill or a watermill, but it's just to operate a grindstone or a helven hammer.

Why would you spread misinformation on the internet, anon?
https://wiki.vintagestory.at/Special:MyLanguage/food_preservation#Salt_curing
>sounds like this can get annoying over time, can you at least store long enough for winter?
you can preserve food for quite long, but it's a process to build up the infrastructure (cellar, claymaking, bee-keeping various forms of meal preparation because some meals can be preserved better than their raw ingredients). I was lucky to get beekeeping up and running very early on this save, so sealing up crocks for long term storage is no problem.
But getting ready for winter on your first save can be quite challenging.
>Is there any sort of automation to this game?
only very rudimentary one, there is a handful of processes that you can hook up to a windmill or waterwheel, but it hardly qualifies as automation compared to what some other games offer, in my opinion.
>>
>>569437612
Never played batman myself but I can see why the comparison is easy to make.
But actually now I think about it, I think you're right, you already have most of the moves unlocked and just level to get some modifiers on them. Like I think the vault over enemies can be made to stun orcs and I remember how trivial some fights became when you can just vault over a dude, stun him and than do that one million cuts a second move makes their head explode at the end.
>>
>>569438547
Oh, he added curing? Fucking based. Last time I got far, the only way to really preserve stuff was by using wax to seal crooks. And I never found wax without cheating.
>>
>>569439169
To be fair the game does change a lot, especially when you take a break for a year or so. You can also use animal fat instead of wax, but it's a lot less efficient.
I think the real oversight now is that you can't yet get salt from seawter, even though the game does make the distinction between saltwater and freshwater

Yeah man, mining can be a bit of a chore. At least most veins are sizable so if you find one you're set for a while. And if you find a good spot you're bound to find multiple veins.
I think what makes it extra annoying is that certain ores can only spawn in certain rocks (and at certain depths), but as far as I know there is no convenient way to find out about this information in-game. Best you could do is type Casserite into the handbook scroll through all entries for ore and take note of the host rock.

And the simple fact is: more media is gonna lean somewhat progressive. Because more people who want to create art, are progressive. That's not to say that conservatives can't art, but a lot of conservatives believe that the best art has already been made. They hade modern art, they hate when you take something established and change it, they hate new music, new movies, new anything. They want the comforting and known. So naturally, you're gonna find vaguely progressive vibes more often in vidya than conservative ones.
What you gotta get over is this mind prison that something being "woke" means it's automatically bad. Shit being "woke" doesn't make it bad, or good. It's just another thing that a thing is. Old Star Trek was woke af, and was great. New Star Trek is woke and sucks ass.
I mean fucking look at you right now. You're worrying about a game because it's shitty to Elon Musk. Elon Musk fucking sucks. He sucks so fucking hard, he's a glorified scammer, he came to america illegally, he buys PoE and Diablo 4 accounts and then brags about being leaderboard #1, despite not having played the character, he's the fucking worst. And what, you're mad now that they made this clown a villain because he's vaguely on your political side? You GOTTA realize that's dumb, man.
Just enjoy the game if it's good, Stop playing if it sucks, but get rid of this brain worm that's counting political points, that's trying to convince you something is automatically bad if it's not aligned with you, politically.

There are zero protected NPCs, actually.
Some story NPCs like the gay bears are hard to kill but they're not flagged essential or anything meta like that. Their resilience achieved purely through in-world means that the player can subvert.

He's founded the most successful spaceflight company in human history and that company has done more for the industrialization of space and advancement of space technology than any other private or government organization has since the ISS became operational. Interstellar expansion is genuinely the most important undertaking so far that humanity could achieve as a species.
He's also the CEO and a co-founder of the most valuable car company and leading electric car manufacturer on the planet.
And the basis of your derangement is that he's a poser in diablo 4.

One of the best posts I've seen on this site in quite some time. Here's the way I decide if I like a game: is it fun? Yes? Then I like it. No? Then I don't like it. Here's what else I factor into my decision of whether or not I like a game: nothing. It's that simple.
>>
>>569455524
I'm not saying he isn't a successful retard, but he's still a retard. And he's done fuck and all for space flight. He doesn't build the rockets. And yeah, him investing in Rockets is likely the best thing he has ever done. For sure. But he's just the fucking money guy. That's all he is. Same for Tesla. Tesla even famously already existed, he bought himself in and then basically pretended like it was his.
And for every good thing he did there's a bunch of bad shit. Like his fucking Hyperloop that he proposed, He royally fucked over california with that. Turns out by selling them his dumb fucking hyperloop bullshit, they didn't do their original plan: High speed rail. Cali could have fucking high speed rail! Instead now there's a proposed death trap that's never gonna happen.
Or his dumb fucking tunnels. Good fucking god. You could either have train, transporting hundreds of people effectively at the same time, or you could have another death trap tunnel, for individual cars, transporting 1 to 4 people at a time. Not to mention that his DOGE project was such a fucking disaster that even Trump got rid of the dude, gutting programs by pasting them into grog and going "grog is this woke?" How's that gonna advance humanity? Even his fucking rocket bullshit is just because he thinks people are icky and he wants to be god emperor of mars.
>Take your own advice
I mean I am. Me saying musk sucks, doesn't mean I'm gonna drop a game because there's a posititve musk like character. Lots of games have political messages I strongly disagree with, and I just deal with it. That's my entire point.

It was just hilarious because musk famously claimed he works like 100 / 120 hours a week, and any Diablo / PoE player knows: You can't even work 40 hours a week and be #1 on any sort of leaderboard. That shit is entirely no lifers.

Your irrational hatred is making you incorrectly perceive reality.
>But he's just the fucking money guy
Money is what makes literally any transaction or business possible in this world. The person funding a project is as important as the person doing the work on the project because there is no project if one of those people aren't involved.

Man, THAT is the actual cope, but this is getting /pol/ and my entire point was not to argue how much musk sucks or doesn't suck. It was that you shouldn't assume a piece of media, be it vidya, or movies or tv shows is bad, just because it doesn't align with you politically.
Also to dispel this myth that money brings innovation & progress AND keep it vidya, I want to remind you that multiple vidya genres were invented by people making free mods just for the love of it.
>MOBA
Started a Starcraft / Warcraft 3 mod
>Tower Defense
Same as above,
Team fortress and Counter Strike started as mods, TF inspiring hero shooters, Counter Strike creating it's own breed of competitive shooters.
DayZ started as a mod, and basically spawned the entire open world survival crafting genre, you wouldn't have Tarkov without DayZ
Battle Royale started as a mod before the guy made PUBG.
Auto battlers are the newest genre and that started as DotA 2 mod.
Before MMOs we had MUDs, tons of them completely free community created experiences.

Brilliant argument anon. I believe you have been capitalism cucked. That's to say: You have rotted your brain so far that you've become a fucking economist. And Economists believe that people don't do anything without a monetary incentive structure. This is: retarded. People do shit for the love of the game right now. Like you, me and the other anons currently in this conversation, none of us are being paid, and we all call each other retards for free. People restore old consoles for free. People build emulators and make sure old games can be played, entirely for free. Many argue that the best era of youtube, was just people making videos with no expectation of ever getting a dime for it. (Not me, personally tho). The Idea that money drives innovation is laughable. People drive innovation. And sometimes money is involved, because under the current system, if you don't get any, you die. But people would still invent all this shit, even if they weren't paid.

Look at the fucking space nerds landing on a comet. Look at how they cheered and jumped and danced with joy. Do you really think, that if we removed money, and instead made sure they had everything they needed and wanted, regardless, that these nerds wouldn't still be there every day working on space shit? Of fucking course they would. None of them are there going: "I hate this, but it's a living".

Never going to happen. The utopian abundance you're probably experiencing right now is because you live in or adjacent to a capitalist society that has allowed the lower class access to more material luxuries than the medieval feudal nobility of europe. Capitalist systems that birthed industrial revolutions across the world and perpetuated their growth are why 8 billion people can live on this planet at all.

Solar energy has very recently become one of the cheapest energy sources relative to power generated out of all of them.
>>
when you think about it, all energy on earth is ultimately solar energy
>>
>>569463508
Geothermal energy is independent from solar energy. The little critters at the bottom of the sea living around hydrothermal vents aren't getting anything directly from the sun's light or heat, they'd keep living down there clueless and unbothered if the sun ceased to exist tomorrow.

Those hydrothermal vents are maintained by the earth being geologically active from radioactive decay and residual heat. The sun doesn't really have much to do with it.

Tectonic activity, the earth being geologically active, is due to the earth's internal heat.
>>569465503
>again, i am talking about being VERY pedantic, since the energy delivered is negligible, but sun does contribute to geothermal activity
It contributes to very surface level geothermal energy but the stuff deep below is pretty much completely separate from what the sun can provide and instead relies entirely on the heat radiated by the inner parts of the earth itself. And even those systems that are technically impacted by tidal heating wouldn't register a measurable drop in output or activity or efficiency if the sun wasn't contributing.

Robocraft's big thing was that you could build your vehicle block by block from the ground up. This gameplay pretty much looks exactly like it was built off of world of tanks.
Also one of the tanks is literally a futurized maus.
>>
>>569466217
The earth's internal heat is residual from its violent formation and generated by radioactive decay. The residual heat isn't being generated, it all already exists.
>>
>>569466741
...so it's limited?
>>
>>569466785
Pretty sure all energy sources are technically limited.
But mainly you aren't getting more residual heat.
>>
>>569466480
yes, it is built on wot's gameplay formula
but it wot doesn't have the energy of a bunch of varied combined arms vehicles with wild abilities juking it out on a balanced map that caters to unusual styles of vehicles
the customization is not robocraft tier of course, but the upgrade tree significantly impacts how you play the tank to the point of entirely different playstyles
the game is also going to be pay to play and devs promise no progression mtx, and so far i am inclined to believe as economy is very generous and there are a lot of anti-grinding mechanics. you can just straight up salute other players with a small sum of money at the end of each round practically for free if you think they've played well and deserved it, even enemies

What's funny about the PoE thing is that I know a guy who's quite right wing economically, so he never really had a problem with Musk. >>
>>569470535

I mean even the copper guy. He had a full life like you and me yet all we know about him is that he's the copper guy.
I remember reading a young adult fiction series a while back, where the epilogue is that one of the characters, who is semi immortal, wakes up hundreds of years in the future with all of the other characters long dead and the final words of the book, are the first sentence of the first book as he retells their story. And it felt so sad somehow, that the people who he's telling the story to, will never fully FULLY grasp what those stories must mean to the immortal guy.

Anyone concerned with doing this isn't concerned with making a good game when they're implementing that wording, they're concerned with putting their ideological paint over the game regardless of whether it fits or not.
Don't even know what the opposite of that would be, "biological male or biological female"? Feeling the need to use some politically correct newspeak instead of regular language makes you a ideologically captured, detached from reality freak.

The Sims' approach is much better: there are still "male" and "female" sexes, but you can choose to customize it with a period button: Looks: Masculine, Feminine, Androgynous; Penis: Yes, No; Vagina: Yes, No; etc.

New layer mod is weird. I don't really know what I expected. Geothermal vents is full of nothing, crystal caves has crystals that do nothing, the only interesting addition is the ice cave with the space heaters
mushroom is just a regular layer with shrooms
basically the last 3 are filler and the only one with any kind of work in it is the ice layer which is a direct opposite of the dried desert
can't recommend

The music in vintage story does not feel very fitting for how hostile the world is in general, not to mention there's a twisted horror from another world behind every corner or just roaming the land in broad daylight half of the time. A literal hell portal appears outside my house at least once a week, every now and then the dimension I reside in merges with hell for a day.
The music sounds like I'm on a whimsical adventure instead of constantly ten steps away from being mauled by a bear hiding in a bush or attacked by a demon.

I remember wondering if the music in that game was scripted when it felt like the most uplifting and bombastic tracks always came in when I was out exploring the vast plains or coming home from a long journey.
But then ditched that idea when it started playing while I was building a road.
>a twisted horror from another world behind every corner or just roaming the land in broad daylight half of the time. A literal hell portal appears outside my house at least once a week
I wish the game would be better if calm periods were longer or more predictable. Sometimes I want to just wander out and camp in the open, but I can't because I know some monster is gonna eat me in my sleep.

>>
>>569489317
I heard of sekiro. I even briefly watched someone playing it. I heard about "stances". I had no idea that it involved parry in any way, shape or form. In most games parrying is optional for most mobs, you only need it for rare shielders.
Also, I played HK and Silksong to True Ending just fine.

R resets the game.
Clicking on "Press (A) button to start" message with LMB starts the game.

That's it.

So after a few hours of grinding and upgrades I defeated the first boss (Yingzhao). Honestly, I don't feel anything. In my previous attempt I got killed in the very beginning of the first phase, so it feels like a pure luck, parry timings deigned to work this time. Likely won't ever work again if I re-load the save and re-attempt it again.
Compare it to Phantom from Silksong, I felt like I was dancing around her after fiftieth attempt. THAT felt really earned, it was very satisfactory. Plus that muscle memory really helped against Lace 2 and Lost Lace.
>>
>>569489578
If you want to learn how to parry, just go to the tutorial fighting guy and at the last step just parry him until you're comfortable. Parrying is basically a rythm minigame, once you understand that its just a question of finding the enemy tempo.
>>
>>569494571
I defeated the first boss by always being in the air. Not only attacks are quicker, there's no third strike penalty (which was really messing me up), and no need to worry about red attacks. Also I think mid-air parry is bidirectional.

most racist man alive here, the storytelling is amazing and the purely portuguese narration with english subtitles is not gimmicky or annoying. I cried when they showed the mutilation of antonio after my second run. I'm only a few hours in and I solidly recommend hellclock 10/10 'survivors like arpg.' This anon is right: >>569482754
And I would like to add:
>Anyone concerned with doing this isn't concerned with making a good game when they're implementing that wording
How do you know? This is where you have fallen for the propaganda, Anon. You have been told that people who do this are bad and evil, and either unwilling or incapable of making good art.
Do you think this is reasonable? Is there any logic to that conclusion? Not really. You just assume that their ideology on gender is so important, that they are willing to ruin the game.
But this is not so. This is foremost a matter of taste. As where you feel a game is ruined if the option is "type A or B", They obviously do not feel like it ruins the game. They're not sitting there going "Fuck this is ass now, but my gender views are more important". They very likely think that having that kind of choice is not only not bad, they just think that is actually the better way. They're not "ideologically captured" they're having "a different opinion".
>And for some reason the weird fringe ideology being hamfistedly shoved into games always seems to come from one side.
Because conservatism generally doesn't lend itself to making great art. Progressives like the new, they like to experiment and do weird shit. Conservatives like the classics. They believe all the great art has already been made. Why do you think they get mad as shit when someone changes batman a bit? So now when the right makes a game with their ideology it's something like "chad vs the gay nazis".
Also: man you do know that the right had their moment too, with forcing their ideology into every piece of media? It was called "The Hays Code". And it was far worse, as it fully dictated what could and could not be shown. Media was FORCED to be conservative in nature.
>>
>>569481083
>>569521306

ALSO also: It still happens in TV! You have cop shows, showing cops as universally good nice guys, and even if one is corrupt, he instantly gets stopped by his good guy colleagues
You have shit like Yellowstone and other Taylor Sheridan shows, that are outright right wing conservative propaganda. Where a native woman tells a rich as fuck white ranch owner "you're the indian now" because people keep trying to give him millions and millions of dollars for his land. Or Landman, where they drive up to a wind energy unit, and Billy Bob Thornton explains to the city girl how "clean energy" is a joke, and rattles off a whole bunch of anti-windfarm propaganda. "Only one side" my ass.

To be honest, "clean" energy is purely marketing gimmick, because no form of renewable energy source has no effect on the environment, especially considering all the primary and secondary industries that furnish the materials for it, and most of them require specific conditions to be viable and efficient.
>>
>>569528391
this brought you by johh lignite of the lignite coal extraction company & co
>>
>>569528391
I mean, debatable. To anyone with a brain, it should be clear that no form of generating energy is 100% without it's own harm. But what the show does is clearly bullshit, presenting a one-sided argument as correct. Saying stuff like: "Do you have any Idea how much diesel they have to burn to mix that much concrete? Or make that steel and haul this shit out here and put it together with a 450 foot crane?" He also claims that in it's 20 year lifespan it won't offset the carbon footprint of making it. Which is just: false. Windfarms recoup their carbon footprint within months. MONTHS.
And all this bullshit about the carbon emissions during the making, like what's the point? Clearly the implication is: "so might as well burn oil". As if it's "roughly the same" or even better, when it's not. As if coal and oil and gas plants don't need the same, or actually more concrete and steel. It's just dishonest propaganda.
Here's a video of someone breaking down how it is false: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKVNFqqzvP4

So I dunno man, Between vidya having some messages of "accept people even if they're different" propaganda in it, and media having "let the oil industry kill the planet, fuck your future" propaganda, I'd rather that the LGBTQ+ Body type B blue hair propaganda, not gonna lie.
>>
>>569525946
I really hated ziggurat 2 it wasn't nearly as fun as ziggurat 1 for me. It's been half a decade though so it's hard for me to be specific but I think I disliked something about the meta progression, it rubbed me wrong in a major way since ziggurat 1 could be beaten and enjoyed in a single sitting if you just got gud
>>
>>569531978
Fair, I enjoyed both games, and I think I also lean a bit more towards Ziggurat 1. But not to the point that I found Z2 "bad" or anything. It's just in this weird niche of indie game that's decent, but doesn't blow you away, ya know?

Semi related: Does Receiver 2 technically count as a roguelike? Now that's a good game, but hard as balls. Never managed to beat it.

It is fine to recognize that "clean" energy comes with it's own drawbacks, it is however a fallacy to pretend like these drawbacks are greater, or even equivalent to energy sources such as burning oil.
Like I said before, each method of generating energy has drawbacks. But you are pitting a relatively minor drawback that can be dealt with, against a drawback that is likely to make the earth uninhabitable, and then saying: "See these are both bad, so why do the 'clean' one?"
To take it back to gaming, it's a bit like taking a game like Fallout New Vegas, and some predatory gachaslop, and saying: "Yeah you have to pay for the gacha, but in new vegas you have to pay for the story DLC, in both cases you need to pay extra, so might as well just do the gacha slop". When one is clearly worse than the other, right?
You're only counting that both methods have drawbacks and are therefore equal, when what you need to be checking is if the drawbacks are equivalent.
>>
>>569529892
Also what's weird to me that even if you don't care about the environment, renewables are just better geocentrically for most countries.
Renewables don't have to be shipped through unstable regions of the globe or bought from authoritarian regimes.

I never claimed not to be biased. I clearly have a side. My original point was just that we shouldn't dismiss vidya because we disagree with political points made within the vidya.
For instance: I'm fairly extremely on the left. And I like the 2 Division games. But Division 2 starts with the narrator saying: "When the police stopped coming, did you have a gun? Did your neighbour?" It's an NRA wet dream of "When all chaos breaks lose, the only thing stopping a bad guy with a gun is a hyper militarized secret government spec ops soildier with a license to kill and a gun". But who's surprised, the series spawned from Tom Clancy, who was a huge Reagan fanboy, who basically embodies everything my side hates about conservatism.
Or Tears of the Kingdom, (and most Zelda games) basically directly saying, that if a land is not ruled by it's rightful king, the land and it's people will suffer. Some may say this is silly because it's not a regular culture war talking point, but for an anti-monarchy communist type dude, this is the same as a game talking about how much better everything would be under communism would be for an anti-commie chud, ya know?
But I don't see this shit and go: "REEE!!! CONSERVATISM IN MUH GAEMU!!!" I note it, I disagree with it, and I keep playing. I don't let it convince me that the entire game is bad, because it displays political views and norms that I disagree with, ya know? That's the lesson I wanted you to take away from this.
Now a game can be woke or non woke, and be either good, or bad. the status of it's wokeness, is not linked to it's quality. I'm pro wokeness, and I don't think making a game more woke makes it automatically better or even good. But at the same time, you shouldn't think it's automatically bad.
That's the culture war bullshit. We don't need that, you don't need that.

Dunno if it helps you or you're just shit out of luck with the area you've settled in, but I've just started prospecting my map in a 100 by 100 grid (and honestly I could have probably even gotten away with 200 by 200) because just sampling at random points with no system feels like it would be to prone for an ore hotspot to seep through the cracks.
Ignore the super tight clusters of samples, that was from when I had a way more inefficient technique partially based on false info about how the prospecting system works.
Also while I do this, I don't even pay too much to the specific readings I get, I focus on filling out my heatmap so later I can find a good spot for a mine with the filters.

I think every game that strives for that has to have a very delicate dance between realism and authenticity. At the end of the day it's still a game and if you managed to make a game that is truly realistic, it would probably be dull as fuck to actually play.

Reminder that JF Gariépy, the potato masher himself, is making an actually good survival voxel that will mog the shit out of VS.

Nah, this is a cope that bad gamedevs have psyop'd you into believing, especially ones that market their game as being semi-realistic. Tyrone was way way more concerned with "balance" and "progression" than realism and it shows.

Defeated Goumang (1?) and got her symbol thing. Once again it seems like the key is to disregard normal parry entirely and only use in-air one (Tai-Chi Kick). Though this time MC doesn't stall in-air when attacking, so I had to facilitate in-air time myself by using Skull-kick on torso area and wiggling back-and-forth a lot. fun so far. it seems fairly easy to reach a stable position so the survival aspect doesn't feel as unforgiving as soemthing like banished, at least on normal and on this basic ass map. Though i guess the difficulty comes from keeping it stable as i expand.
basically just treating badtides like droughts excect i need to close the fill valves so the shit water doesn't get in.Only had to make the one on the north two blocks high or the badwater would flow over it.
i guess next step is to actually figure out how to fill that dam i built to the top.

I thought I was being overkill carrying around 2 ice packs considering that it recharged fast enough in 6.1 that only one was needed at any moment, and now it's barely enough. Huh, that's an interesting take. I see where you're coming from, though I think what makes immortality so scary to me is the fact that everything passes while you remain. I mean I sometimes feel dreadful nostalgia for the world that existed just 10 years ago, can't imagine how crushing that feeling would be if I lived 100 or 1000 years back. And from what I imagine in an afterlife you'd just be free from negative emotions and happy.
Which I guess brings us to the question if you'd still be YOU at that point...

You know, it's such a fun feeling to see what other players build on the exact same map. Things feel kinda familiar yet so different.
I'm 100% with you though, I wonder if I should have picked the hardest difficulty, because the game just feels "solved" at this point and I'm basically just waiting for resources to pile up so I can build things that I think sound interesting.
I think it is a bit different on harder maps, some of them are more dynamic, where certain badtide sources only start coming online over time, so you have to adapt, or unstable cores explode, reshaping part of the terrain and redirecting a river or two.
Also there are crazy custom maps. I've seen someone on YouTube play a bit of the crater map from this map pack
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3619180600
and it looks like a real challenge, because the map is constantly changing and also there's lots of little puzzles and traps, where if you're not careful where you build or remove dams, you might face some unexpected consequences.

>>
>>569626354
Stone isn't as easy to excavate and even cobblestone requires clay. Making drystone and other more "advanced" stone materials are even worse.
But there's countless low tech materials. Including cob which is made just from stone age waste materials and gets you 10 building blocks from 4 dirt, so his argument about dirt's abundance doesn't make any sense when he's using dirt at 1:1 ratio.

The only annoying part is collecting the straw or thatch for the roof, but I feel like it's worth it for the aesthetics. I personally can't be immersed in the game as well if I live in a dirt cube.

All roofing options in vanilla VS take a little bit too much effort for what they are supposed to be.
The game has taken steps towards favoring realistic materials for realistic reasons, but it's still bit too minecrafty. Even with landslides and cave-ins enabled (why aren't these defaults?) it's still far easier to build an ugly, uninspired, unrealistic dirt cube than a realistic primitive dwelling with daub, thatch, etc. The main problem is how easily you can collect and transport vast quantities of full cubic meter blocks of bulky raw materials. Carrying large stacks of blocks is at odds with everything else VS does. Even chests feel like an outdated placeholder mechanics when single-material crates are more realistic for bulk storage, but inferior to chests in terms of storage space.

Fishing doesn't seem to work and hunting with shit spears is so inefficient, its easier right now to die of hunger near the spawn and collect everything, than to run for hours trying to find food, and this kinda ruins the whole survival thing.

>Media has always, and will always, have some political meanings in them.
Bad faith argument for this context. Anybody that is old enough remembers that any politics in games before the culture wars started wasn't charged with venom trying to hit you over the head with "if you don't believe this you are a terrible person that should die" type thing. You don't really get to ignore it either when it's featured front and center in the game. And yes even though artists have historically leaned left, the rabid low IQ left of the last 15 years is a different species from their forebearers. If you were around in any real leftist circles before the 2010s you would know exactly what I'm talking about. Go back and watch the original Twilight Zone, even.

>start collecting berry bushes
how do I collect bushes? You are talking about taking a cut from a bush and replanting somewhere else, or there is another way? I took a cut of some bushes, but the new ones are going to take around.

Also, how to properly make a cellar? I am living in a hole in the ground, at first, chests had 0.8 spoil rate, but now they have 1.2, I assume its because I added firepits to the same room. Its better to make another hole altogether, or to tunnel somewhere else?

I finally learned how to fish, flay fish and make stew

>how do I collect bushes?
Hit it until it breaks?

>>569672764
>how to properly make a cellar?
Oh boy. Check the handbook (press H), I think it explains that a lot better than I can.
I'll just paste the wiki:
>Cellars are special rooms that reduce the spoil rate of perishable items significantly more than normal rooms.
>Creation:
>Cellars are constructed the same way as normal rooms, but with the additional restriction that they have a smaller maximum size. There are two different conditions that will turn a room into a cellar. The first and more straightforward way to create a cellar is to make any room that is 7x7x7 or smaller. Alternatively, one of the dimensions may be up to 9 blocks, as long as the total volume of the room is no more than 150 blocks[3]. The other two dimensions are still required to be 7 or less. For example, a 9x8x2 room has a volume of 144, but is not a cellar because two dimensions are greater than 7.
>While the effectiveness of a cellar is not affected by its height or position in the world, sunlight will significantly reduce the cellar's effectiveness. Building a cellar underground or inside of an already-enclosed area can make it easier to avoid sunlight. Be aware that doors do not block sunlight at all!
>The most basic cellar with maximum efficiency is a hole in the ground, closed with dirt on top.

>Any solid blocks may be used to create a cellar, but different blocks have different insulation values. Blocks in the stone, soil, ceramic, or ore classes are considered cooling[4], and will each add 1 to the cooling block total. While the top side of farmland is not solid, other sides count as 3 non-cooling blocks. An open door, i.e., any door in a position where it leaves a visible opening, counts as 3 non-cooling blocks per block the door occupies. For example, a typical 1x2 door would count as 6 non-cooling blocks, and a 2x4 door would count as 24 non-cooling blocks.

I used to tell niggas this when I would watch them play don't starve over their shoulder hoollyyyy those were the days bruv let me tell you. I remember when everyone used to be bad at games and you would see people with 40 hours on don't starve who would starve after 2 days tops who had never even made TOOLS before. They would just wander around happy with just that. Expectations for a game are so much higher these days.

Most of the Bible predates Christianity, and even when you start getting Christian writers, most of them are more like chroniclers than actual theologists. All credit to St. Paul the Apostle, of course, for being the greatest Christian theologist of his era, despite being contemporary with the actual mortal incarnation of God.
Anyway, Paul didn't mention Limbo, and neither did anyone else whose writings got into the Bible. You can find references to it pretty early on, like in the second century, but those books were never canonised.

The "correct" way to play the game is S ranking the stages. If you just want to beat the game it's pretty forgettable. I don't dislike ranking or scoring based games as a concept but this one is all about memorize the route and perfectly execute it with little variety, which doesn't appeal to me. If you like challenging platform like Celeste? Super Meat Boy? and tough Mario Maker levels I would imagine the chances are high you'll enjoy it, obviously there is the combat to take into consideration.
>minishoot
Cute twinstick shooter + metroidvania. Nothing really outstanding about, just a solid 7.5/10 game, no glaring flaws, no noteworthy qualities. Difficulty level is pretty reasonable for twinstick/shmup beginners, I would assume. It's a nice game to relax, with only a little over 10 hours required to beat, but I would not recommend to those with little free time.
>>
>>569690543
>but I would not recommend to those with little free time
Way better games to play, just to clarify, though one could argue the 7.5 score carries that implication.
In regards to Void Rains I just did enough content and called it a day In reality I can't properly play it due to medical reasons, but I'd love to keep going until full completion. Lovely game.

Yeah, I see where you're coming form, it's one of those things where you need to bring some intrinsic motivation to the table.
I think the question is, where you want to draw the realism line, because on one hand I agree with you that it's a bit inconsistent how much shit can fit in a chest vs ground storage or how you can transport 100s of cubic meters of soil in your backpack. But on the other extreme I doubt it would be fun for long to have to transport each dirt block one by one with a wheelbarrow.
I feel similar with some of the recipes that you can do both in the crafting grid and in the world, like scraping hides or smashing ore with a hammer. In terms of efficiency there is no reason for you to do it in the world, but I still prefer it, because it feels immersive. And i hope more shit like chopping firewood or sawing planks will move from the grid into the world. especially because that will open up the option of adding a sawmill for more efficient sawing

Do you have experience playing at that setting, did you also fuck with the exhaustion rate? Because oftentimes needing to go to bed is also a limiting factor.

For me unlocks sometimes serve that function, I remember in Tavern Keeper I was motivated to keep going as long as building a better Tavern meant I would unlock new room types and placeable objects with new mechanics, but as soon as I was out of those, I kind of just lost interest.
But somehow for Timberborn that doesn't quite cut it. Maybe it's because I also played it in EA and got burned out there.
>i am also not sure yet how this is an /egg/ game.
I think its /egg/ness ha been up for debate but I think it kinda counts because of the whole water logistics aspect. Since you can built quite elaborate dam systems and since 1.0 even automate them.

Sure, but the drawback is alienating potential customers.

Yeah, they're the whole reason for this genre, imo.

In this case, it's a bit of a tall order. It turned out I hadn't found the thermal recharge mod for the cyclops yet, so I've got to go get it from one of the biomes with Reaper spawns, so I keep putting it off. I might also be missing some nickel, which is still hard for me to track down at this stage of the game.

well, made more varied food, some decorations and stuff and suddenly i got their well being up from like 11 to 33-34.
also automated my dam to close on a badtide and not let badwater in. Made explosives and started making my dam and lake deeper with them.
Also going pure windpower is garbage. way too inconsistent and i either need more turbines or more batteries. I also might start and make memory latches to automatically turn construction buildings on/off because i noticed they still consume power even if they idle.
idk. might push this save to well-being 50 and then try the other tribe on a different map. and maybe also on hard. the threat of droughts and badtides feels non-existent here. It is basically an idle game at this point.

Cross code done. Close to 82 hours, all trophy unlocked, all quests completed. The only thing I didn't do was getting gold in all cups because it unironically bored me more than one-shotting 1000 hedgehag for the 8k kill trophy. Spoilers (dlc+main game)
I ended up letting C'tron stay, despite how much I dislike him (I had guessed he was a bad guy since the moment I saw him in the desert, the hand gesture was the most obvious chekhov's gun I've seen in a while), I wasn't expecting him to be an evotar, I just expected him to be Sidwell's alt. Overall, I liked the writing. The story itself was competently done but never really surprising. The dlc's writing felt a bit more sloppy in some places. I get why you guys like that game so much. I did find the gameplay and fights a bit repetitive towards the end tho. I kinda dreaded the dlc's dungeon. One thing I really like though was how much details there is, I didn't realize you could even lose a race against Emilie until I got the achievement for not losing any race. Characters acknowledge previous events, even small things like when Apollo forgets to press a switch, it has an alt version if you also forget to press the switch, characters comment on everything (rarely in side quests though, except for Emilie's laser bridge builder...), if you go to the old observatory with a broken equipment, the corresponding tile vibrates. Ironically, it makes the few times when characters don't acknowledge your actions a lot more jarring.
Anyway, the frog is cooked, she cancelled her crossworlds membership, Instatainment is bankrupt and the servers are shutting down. Everyone is dead, the end!
Seriously tho, what happens to the evotars if Blizzard shuts down?
Also the omni gliders overthrow questline kinda just ends at the start... What a completely useless plot thread that never reappear or gets addressed in any way whatsoever. We don't even know if it ever get solved.

Look at the chart. It doesn't even include XP. If you're going to be using an outdated OS anyways, might as well a good one while you're at it.

Many companies and schools including the one where I maintained PCs decided to avoid and wait out Vista which is the main reason XP stayed everywhere longer than expected.
But running XP in 2016 is not even as outdated as running 7 in 2026.

Nah. Thief had problems the day it came out but there's really nothing wrong with Thief 2 even in 2026.
>abusable
The Dark Mod doesn't have this issue but the Thief community loses their marbles if you advocate for TDM for this reason.
>>
>>569875118
If you don't care for graphisms... Yeah, wait for the remaster. I do have the games here and running, but I had to install them off GoG, then TFix, then AngelLoader...

>>569875309
>there's really nothing wrong with Thief 2 even in 2026
Square shoulders? Leaning forward? Can bunny hop away from guards?
The game strive on your pride to make you play normally, but doesn't penalize you fucking up, you can run away infinitely. And also you can lean forward to knock enemies out while being in front of them and it pisses me off to no end to see it in Thief FMs runs.

>the Thief community loses their marbles
Oh no, what will these taffers do?
>>
>>569875468
Like I said TDM doesn't have the blackjack bug and other exploits. It's the most polished take on pure Thief gameplay available nowadays, but for some reason thief grognards don't care for fixing the gameplay exploits.
>>
>>569875731

That is so fucking stupid.
Most players never discover those. 100% of testers never discovered them which is why they exist in the first place. A new player won't have any problems with actually playing the game, any problem would arise from reading meta developed literally over decades. Game is still fine, your internet behavior is what's fucked.

>it pisses me off to no end to see it in Thief FMs runs.

>It was a bad game. Both as a sequel and as a game
What's crazy is, when it came out, I didn't get the hate. I thought it was a decent game even though I can't even remember finishing it. All because I had kinda shit taste as a teen and hadn't played the original games, plus a little pinch of the 'tism that made it hard to think a game is bad even if I was having a mediocre time with it. Weird shit.

Are you a career politician by any chance?
You're good at saying nothing of substance while taking a meaningless part of a sentence out of context.

So why do you want the unimmersive and exploitable bugs to STAY in the game if you don't use them?
Besides, fixing the old exploits is just one part of polishing OG Thief controls and movement. If you only care about gameplay, why not prefer the most polished version of it? Is there something else wrong with it? Aside from the superior TDM mantling and climbing system, most changes are very nuanced. It's about as faithful to OG Thief gameplay as can be.

It's a dungeon sim as far as genre goes. It also has roguelike elements like procgen, permadeath, simturns, and RPG elements like character progression, equipment, skills and stats, etc. I don't think it's a particularly unfair description.

I tried the demo, it was pretty fun. Some of the effects were a bit giggleworthy but it overall felt fairly solid. I'm gonna be buying the game when I can reasonably afford to do it.

No, I'm very serious. It's even funnier when you know what's the name of the state (Saarland). Why does it matter? It's at the border of France and has a long history with the French. A bit like Strasbourg to a lesser extent. It's notable for having roughly 15-20% of (conversational) French speakers and pushing pretty hard towards becoming a fully bilingual state. Also "brücken" means "bridges" in German.
Why is this relevant to cross code? Emilie is French and Lukas is German. Notably, Emilie's French is surprisingly accurate and interestingly enough Lukas is the one who ended up with a broken English, almost all the idioms he uses are transliterate German expressions, Emilie has an obsession with (laser) bridges and I'm pretty sure Lea is a pun name... Also one of the character is Indian but I'm pretty sure that's a coincidence...

I've been enjoying the turn-based tactics game terrinoth heroes of descent. I think I might have played the boardgame the world is set in like once but I recall nothing about the lore so practically a fresh world for me. Its about 1 hour per mission, each mission has its own map you walk around in and interact with shit like in a CRPG until combat starts and then back to CRPG mode once it ends. Aside from your team-wide ult meter and consumable items, your resources all refresh after every encounter in the mission. Kind of a double-edged sword since you have encounters that are generally meaningfully long and challenging and you get to use all your cool stuff but also can drag on with the 1-2 waves of enemy reinforcements.

Character models and artstyle are good looking but the VAs are kinda hit or miss though still pretty charming for the most part. In theory there's also build diversity for each character since you unlock more skills than skill slots and you can reselect the talent you unlock each level but I'll leave judgment on that for when I actually have a reason to change. At the very least none of the 7 characters I have so far feel like they play too similar to another so there's that at least
>>
>>569935445
I beg to differ. I've learned most of the game from the handbook, going in blind.
I think eventually the guides could use a rewrite and a system of backlinks from the items they reference to would be nice, but I wouldn't say it isn't any good.
>>
I hate Joustus so much but for some reason I still feel the need to clear the tournament every time I play through King of Cards.
It is kind of fun but I feel like I only think that when I am not actually playing it.

>>
>>569978497
I've been playing it solo so I'd say so yeah, there's not really a lot of overhead for each character unlike say the -haven games or DnD so its probably a better experience solo than multiplayer. That said I should emphasize again, its not a CRPG but a tactics game. There's CRPG-style real-time exploration throughout the missions for things like using your dudes skills to navigate the map(ie: jumping/grappling to reach treasure, electrifying switches, burning plants, etc...), find ambush points for an advantage in the combat, and text adventure segments but the character growth isn't as in-depth as an actual CRPG. Levels exist but are basically benchmarks to a stat boost and a choice of 1 of 3 talent upgrades per level, and so far each of my dudes is locked to 3 skills and 3 items equipped at a time. Granted skill and item pools are deep and you can upgrade both skills and items but its not deep enough nor does it have the RP elements to be a CRPG.

Also should mention the length of the game. Only 20 missions split across 4 story arcs, and by my estimation its about 1-2 hours per mission so at most a 40 hour game, probably closer to 30.

Würzburg am Main baby!
Known for a couple of things, one of them being that they burned a fuckton of witches here.
Allegedly there were some leaks that the game might take place in the city. But gaming journos are fucking hacks, I've found several articles making that claim but they either don't source it properly or if you try to follow the sources you end up at some screenshots with dubious credibility that just mention the city off-hand with it being completely up to interpretation if the game will actually take place here or not.

For sure, there's a funny story when a couple friends and I checked back on a website, that used to be very popular when we were kids and we always used to look up cheat codes and guides.
Turns out they desperately try to cling to relevancy by STILL making clickbait articles about fucking Skyrim. And it's been a blast going through those. For one we are 90% sure that some of them were written under a pseudonym to make it seem like they got more people writing those than there actually are. But also we developed a borderline parasocial relationship with one of the authors who was genuinely good at writing those articles, but was stuck wasting that talent on "Top 9 Skyrim Eastereggs" and "How to join the Thieves Guild"

Yeah I get that. People can be fucking assholes in public, I'll never understand why.
Not too long ago I saw a middle aged lady act like a literal child to a cashier, just because she was told that she put the wrong label on some bananas she bought no idea how common it is in other countries, but in some stores here, if you buy fruit or vegetables, there are scales with a label printer where you weigh them yourself and put the label on, before going to the cashier
Thinking back I wonder if it was because she thought he could get away with getting them for cheaper and was mad she got called out.
