It is made for griefers, streamers and nolifers first and everyone else second, and they copied Tarkov's formula to a T which is the most frustrating model for players to engage with long term. Each season your progress (vault, story, upgrades) is reset, partly to make things "even" but mostly to keep up the endless hamster wheel grind going. Only they fucked up on that because they gave 7 free kits to people trying to get in with Season 2's launch, plus another 4 kits to people who reached level 10 - 75 during season 1. So the item economy they are so strict about is already out of wack and patching it out makes it even more difficult for casual players or people playing fairly to catch up.The actual parts that make up Marathon from the setting to the environments and gunplay are good, mainly because aspects of the gameplay are straight up lifted from D2. But the gameplay loop tires you out before long and it has extremely little to keep players engaged. I really think that if this were a pseudo Peace Walker/MGSV Ground Zeroes type game with how you replay maps to level up your abilities, grind bosses for resources and how there's multiple ways to replay maps, the game really would have more appeal than a super competitive extraction shooter. And all that with a focus solely on single player or co-op while PvP is its own isolated mini game.
