The Wheel has turned once again

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.
The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 3400 units, 1100 spells and 400 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them. It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.
Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

Who are the best mercs and who are the worst?
For me best is Shipwreckers. Best get into water free card
Worst is Urgek Beast Bros. I don't care how cheap they are they are garbage

I wish illwinter made forests actual forests
my N7 titan of the forest should not be fighting out in a fucking clearing they literally want to work with trees and be surrounded by trees
>>
>>570351527
Big fan of Helmut's Sappers
The commander has the Master Mason trait so you can upgrade your forts even with normally not able to.
Second would be Dagan. He's cheap as hell and gives a very nice boost in research, especially if he appears early on.
>>
>>570353683
I'm kinda hoping thats the next big step if dom 7 happens. More varied and detailed battle terrains.
The assasination battles in pubs and bedrooms is a good start, relative to the pace illwinter works at.
It would have to be done carefully though, we can already see how big a deal going through the gate of a fortification is, a forest for example with many chokepoints could get very annoying
>>
>>570355097
>a forest for example with many chokepoints could get very annoying
Very annoying for nations that dont deal with forests well is exactly my point
Think how the roman legion felt about forests during their campaigns to the north
>>
>>570355742
Yeah I get why you'd want it, but just imagine fighting into fucking Asphodel for a moment. You'd need to provide more tools to deal with the problems it would create.
I do think there is a much better middle ground than how it currently is too though
>>
>>570356068
we already have the structure for terrain change
More map changing mechanics would be cool
>>
>>570356068
But imagine casting fire storm
Treehuggers in shambles
>>
Where the fuck is Man's abandoned capital and who the fuck is eating it for free?
I need THREAT reports
>>
>>570353683
coe already has much more going on in the battles, but yes expanding on it would be very cool. marshy areas in swamps that slow you down, ravines or cliff faces on mountain provinces that block pathing, being able to set an entire forest on fire, ect
>>
>>570356068
It would at least do some good work weakening the retarded sacred heavy cav meta we have going on now
If you can't unleash a full 100 strong cav lance charge then maybe they'd be forced to think of something more than 'unga bunga line formation attack rear'

I think that's Naba, but cannot be certain. Do you know which province Man's cap was? I don't have a province count, but Naba could be well over 25 provinces while hitting the foreign rec button hard.

Meanwhile I'm over here with a respectable 16 provinces and Naba thinks I'm the threat. Yeah ... I've won a bit as Phlegra here and there ... but fucking camels man, they are the "desert snowball".
>>
>>570350576
That's why we do a turn a day:)
>>
Truly there is no greater pleasure on earth than doing a double
>>
Is the multiplayer in this kinda like heroes 3 where people sit down for a few hours to play, or do you really do only 1 turn a day?
>>
>>570377353
really it's more like 1 turn every 2 days, with extensions and as the game goes on the timer increases
sometimes they roll fast, but there's always one guy that waits till the last 10 minutes to do their turn in 5.
>>
>>570377640
so if i wanted to lets say find a person or two to play for like 10 hours in a day, it's gonna be pretty difficult?
>>
>>570377994
Those are called blitzes, where everyone plays out a game in one sitting with a 5-10 minute timer. We used to have them pretty frequently here, but our resident blitzmin's retired and I haven't played in or even seen one here in months.
You'd have some luck joining one in the discords as long as you avoid Dominions Nexus (the trooncord).
>>
>>570377994
That's a blitz, you all sit down and play a single game over the day
They're pretty common in the discord channels and the timers are much shorter. Just expect it to be much more 'hell bless suicide bombing' since five minutes a turn truly isn't enough to come up with any real strategy.
>>
>>570351527
The ghost ones are neat. Very flexible thanks to being amphibious, perfect endgame raiders.
>>
>>570377353
Here's the thing. Turn 1 takes you 2 minutes to do. Turn 80 could take you 3 hours to do, more if you are really autistic

How's it?
>>
>>570403845
It's like dominions if there were no spells and it was just buying units and positioning them properly. with some RNG cards that shake things up
>>
If the admin is here I might need an extension. I'm about to take a nap cause I'm really tired and cant do the turn right now. I'll probably do it when I wake up but there's a chance I sleep through it entirely
>>
>>570404412
Is it async tho
>>
>>570362474
I thought heavy cav got rekt by the cav split because the heavy cav ends up with like 1 defense due to armor burden.
>>
>>570409979
It's a blitz type of game that lasts like 1-2 minutes per round and ends in 10 turns it's just like a singular battle where you add more and more units it doesnt have a base or anything like dominions

But it's free so you can just try it and see
>>

158 KB JPG
>>570410005
It's not that extreme, but not having much defense isn't important when you're rocking 20 prot.
Meanwhile those front line infantry are wasting their attacks on a horse with 22hp and 20prot (maybe more if sacred!) as the rider obliterates them with a 29 damage lance charge, and if sacred, possibly some blood surged melee attacks.

Uruk is not widely considered a super powerful faction, but I think they have a lot of potential. Its not a super difficulty nation to pilot, you have some real pipe swingy infantry, specifically Iron Warriors. Your mages are good, and are a good way to learn the basics of communions since with their size and ability to cast regen communions are pretty easy for them. They can do some funny gimmicks with expendable gods given that they get your god back very easily.

Getting into the water gets you some cool dudes who you can bring out of the water if you make amulets of the fish (your mages have the paths for it natively)
Ugallus are nice to have around to cast Fog Warriors and whatnot.
Lategame Umu-apkallu are really good mages for their price.

warhammermin, i took norsca's cap and 3 different skaven sites spawned there so i can recruit a bunch of stuff. is it because it's a cap so multiple clan sites can exist at once or is this just a bug? i'm leaning towards bug because i also had an eshin assassin there but an eshin den didn't spawn.
>>
>>570441643
There's a site limit iirc
>>
>>570442158
there is but i haven't reached it. i got the mors barracks because queek was there, and the rictus holdfast because tretch was there. maybe the bug is that if a hero is in the province it can cause multiple of those sites to spawn on the same turn? that's the only thing i can think of
>>
>>570443778
Try moving him in and out
>>
>>570444578
just so we're on the same page, only 1 of the skaven clans is supposed to be able to be established per fort. the fact i'm getting multiple is, i assume, a bug. i'm not trying to get more of them but trying to figure out why i was able to get more than 1 in this particular fort

I wanna play Jomon LA, is this an insane god to take though and larp underwater with my naginata sacreds expanding down there.

Only problem, their iron equipment will rust and can't use their bows.

But the God would let me do vengeful water/gale gate which are both Thaumaturgy, ofc anyone with a strong early war would just kill me and R'lyeh would just rape me before I got my dragon thugs out

>>
>>570448504
It's much easier and cheaper to just take an amphibious monster to get you safely into water.
This build "could" work I guess? I'm not super familiar on expanding with Jomon without a monster.
You better have a good plan for using that titan as soon as it wakes up because your neighbours wont have spent 5 bless points on going into the water

>>570480383

>>
>>570480383
Some differences are subtle, but they are there. MA Ulm has the issue where their units are pretty samey, but they're not exactly identical.

>Two handed weapons
Hit hard. Good for when you want to take down high hp targets.

>One handed weapons + shields
Shields give more protection to a unit and help them against arrows.

>Long weapons
Can repel shorter weapons and prevent attacks.

>Flails
Get two attacks per round. Great at clearing away chaffy units.
>>
>>570480383
the differences become much more important in multiplayer
however, to your point, there is little meaningful difference between say the hammer+shield and the morningstar+shield or the twohanded axe and the twohanded hammer guys

also with ulm they have doubled up variants because of the medium vs heavily armored versions of each troop

Ulm is a particularly bad offender

>>570486975
Well, out of curiosity I checked out stats on the two mace guys (Infantry of Ulm and Black Plate which, I assume, are mid and heavy armored respectively).

Black Plate mace guy is 30% more expensive in resources, has 17% more encumbrance and 10% less defense, while having 10% more morale and 20% more protection. Sounds impressively inconsequential to be honest.
>>
>>570491614
The difference between 19 and 23 prot can be quite large due to how random numbers are rolled for damage.
A unit that hits for say 16 damage on average will almost never hit through 23 prot, but they could hit through 19 prot fairly regularly
>>
>>570486975
Hello WMF, may I suggest 20+ and army wide versions of the black crag national spells? (Itchy, burnin, fists of gork)
Because not only undisciplined makes it extremely hard to pain on the boyz, they become obsoleted extremely quickly
>>
>>570492236
>>570491614
Yeah, when I'm fighting an MA Ulm player and see they're just using normal Pikes instead of Blackplate Pikes I let out an audible sigh of relief.
19prot vs 23 prot is unironically huge.
if any get buffed with Temper Armour (which they should be since you have super easy access to it) it goes up to 26.
The vast majority of things cannot damage 26 prot. Ulms basic black plate troops with Temper are damn near invulnerable if the opponent doesn't have access to poison or HUGE damage like Dai Bake
>>
>>570475076
Wouldn’t matter. You can trick the mind and even reality, but false damage doesn’t soul slay an immortal so it wouldn’t bypass Soul Scars

As the others said, going from 19 to 23 protection is big. it makes them very tanky against regular human troops. 30 to 41 resources is also worth noting. Resources don't carry over between turns, and you can make four halfplate men for every three fullplate. If you're got a fort that's low on resources, choosing the halfplate dudes can help bulk out your armies.

as I said
when you play multiplayer these small differences become more significant

>>570495879
you realize that waaaagh bosses get tight rein right?
I will make a note to maybe add more aoe scaling to those spells. But waaagh bosses are supposed to allow for very different tactics than normal armies. So the difficulty in buffing is by design (though maybe overtuned)

Whats a good bless for LA Agartha?
the Sacreds seem cool for early game, but are they worth a bless?
many mages are sacreds too
the Sepulcherals also seem cool, but not spammable, so Im not sure if they deserve a bless either? Is LA Agartha maybe better suited with Scales?
Does Hardskinn Bless stack with Iron Skin self buff spell?

sadly Nazi occultism was only my minor at Uni... care that fill me in on some details? also some ideas about the bless strat for this nation?
>>
>>570555798
I considered it for Sloops buffs to monster and titan pretenders. But the rules of the arena already buff them up by context:
>no late game so no reason not to invest harder into the early and mid game
>no big expansion so it'll be harder to mass up a response by force
>awake fighters will be weaker than dormant or imprisoned fighters with stronger blesses, but can secure a point advantage in the early turns, before magic and magic items start coming into play

Adding Sloops would probably skew things too hard towards pretenders single handedly fighting over the arena, and whoever loses theirs will be pretty much out of the fight for a long time, which would be boring. Without Sloops, most people will likely still grab monsters and titans but there's more room for armies to fight.

You know this big overlap between MAGA, the Q people a couple years back (cannibal networks under PizzaHuts, more cannibal and alien stuff in secret bases in Antarctica, etc.), and also with a bunch of other nutjobs like flat Earth, Jewish space laser, chemtrails, and the ones who think that trees are bushes and real trees used to be kilometers high but were cut by THEM and dragged away beyond the ice wall long ago and actually mountains are the stumps of what used to be trees?
The overlap between conservatives and insane conspiranoia has always been a thing, all the way back to ancient times. The Nazis also had some kind of creepy secret occult club. Documentation about them and what exactly they did, if anything at all, is unfortunately sparse at best, and there's lots of made up shit.

The Agartha thing is that some of them believed that the world was actually hollow and there were "people", possibly aliens or an alternative evolutionary path of prehistoric humans, walking upside down below us and coming out to spy on us with their aircraft, which came out of some holes that connected the inside with the outside. The main hole should have been somewhere in the North Pole, and the Nazis did send a bunch of planes to explore and search for it. The plan was to get in there >>> ??? >>> acquire their super advanced technology to make weapons and win the war.
Lots of stuff about that is pure fabrication, though. For example, there's reports of submarine expeditions that are obviously fake because submarines during WW2 couldn't do the kind of things the reports claim they were doing. It seems plausible that the Nazis might have sent a couple planes on secret mission to check by order of some particularly culty higher ups (like Himmler himself), but they didn't organize any large scale operations.

If you're curious, go ask in /x/. They've got a shitload of documents over there. Lots of fanfiction and fabricated stuff, but also some real maps and shit.
>>
>>570504335
Uhh, how exactly does the game determine what order armies arrive on the same province?

also the nazis were constructing their own new religion by combining aspects of german paganism and tibetan buddhism.
and the concept of agartha/shambhala comes from tibetan buddhism.
tibetan buddhism btw differs a lot from other forms of buddhism and is the opposite of the whole le peaceful buddha stereotype.
lightning is a big thing in tibetan buddhism - the SS runes are lightning bolts; "blitzkrieg" meaning lightning war, etc. the SS runes can also be interpreted as the sign of aquarius. aquarius = air = lightning. why is this significant? because there are "astrological ages" (look it up) and occultists believe we are currently in the age of aquarius. this age shifts every couple thousand years. the last one was the age of pisces, also known as the age of sailing (humans explored the world by sailing during this age), the age of aquarius is the age of aviation and communication, see airplanes, telephones, internet, etc.
also the black sun symbol has its roots in tibetan buddhism where its called "rahu". i could go on and on.
>>
>>570561336
I actually considered making a bigger arena, with 7 provinces in a honeycomb pattern so that there's another strategical element to it, but I didn't know if there would even be any interest in the concept so I didn't bother. I'll get around to making that map if the game turns out well, could be interesting.
I have no idea how multiple armies are handled. I've never seen more than 3 people, where obviously one will have to fight two opponents. With a bit of luck the game is smart enough to pair up fresh armies against fresh armies whenever possible.
>>
>>570561336

I'm trying to put together a pretender for this and I'm fucking puzzled.
A big awake pretender and turboblessed sacreds seem like the obvious answer, but I bet there's going to be plenty of unholy weapons around.
So maybe tone down the bless and go for more standard army? But still you have to be able to deal with the hordes of turbo blessed sacreds that will also be there. And you'd also be giving up the arena for like half of the game while you build up an army and get some buffs and magic items.
Yomi could be very strong because one of their biggest weaknesses, cracking forts open, isn't a concern. But how well do dai oni perform against a shitload of greatsword of sharpness wielding sacred thugs with unholy weapons? On the other hand, the classic counter of mass cleansing water casters will be a lot less effective, because people can't just gear up to hard counter you specifically without opening up themselves to getting wrecked by everyone else.
What resistances do you even get? You can't possibly protect against everything. And if you try, someone going hard into something might still get through.
Decisions, decisions

New rules:

Pls notice that there isn't a single water province in this map. Or at least I didn't select "water" for any, so I'm pretty sure the random terrain will be chosen among land terrains only. If the game turns out well I'll put together something fancier and more flexible, but this time it's just a quick land only thing

You're great, much appreciated. I've read in the previous thread something about a discord where noobs can find games to play. Where could I find this discord to play with other shitters?
>>
Mother Oak says its increasing Growth by 2 in the province its cast in. I did cast it like 10-20 turns ago, in a game with SCBM and by now virtually all of my massive number of provinces, 40-50% of the game map, have 2 more growth then I initially had. Is the bug the +2 growth in ALL my Provinces, or the description of MOak?
>>
>>570617408
>Where could I find this discord to play with other shitters?
Most of the discords crosspost game recruitment ads to each other so you'll end up in most of them, and noob games are pretty common. You'll probably want to avoid Dominions Nexus (it's the trooncord whose owner has an explicit agenda) but can't go wrong starting with dominions game hub and clockwork hounds (Lucid's server is also good but is the tryhard tourney place).
You could also just hop into games here. The average /domg/ vet is less of a noob and more of an unmotivated deadbeat, so as long as you're putting in the effort to learn and optimize you should place decently in no time.
