Recently unlocked hobgobos and transfer stations. Going to try and set up my second floor to be fully automated with tentacle cleaner>breed>breed>birthing>transfer>milking>breed>breed>and repeat. Once I get a sizeable setup going that is self-sufficient, I'll probably tear down the first floor and make it mainly pleasure cells with some drink cells to increase gold production. Maybe some tentacle breeding pits too, but the only tentacle unit I care for is the that knights birth.Kinda seems like after getting hobgobos theres not much of a point to letting regular gobos breed since the hobgobo troops are just better AP. You could argue that shield bearers are nice for the boost to AP, or that healers are nice due to reduced death chance... but both those are not a problem if youve just got really high AP which the hobgobos give. Might just disallow gobo breeding entirely so all the new units are hobgobos, and plus, hobgobos also have bigger dicks.

>>570569202Perhaps the 2/3 refer to the literal size of an individual cargo unit, (as in, 1 cargo=0.666... cargo space) while the ~200 value is the total amount of cargo space taken by the actual cargo, which total of physical units is likely higher than 200.

>>570585235Have you played Blue Prince yet?
>>570605290Not yet. It's got roguelike elements, no? I remember lots of buzz about the game.
>>570613379Yeah, it has some meta-progression (aside from knowledge gain), but I wish there was more.On one hand the fact that it has a lot of randomness makes it very unique and it's really fun, how each player, because of the randomness, will experience each mystery from a slightly different angle and how they are crafted in a way that they are all solvable, no matter which order you find the clues in.But I think my main complaint is something which I think in part could have been addressed with more meta-progression and in part is probably an unavoidable sacrifice this kind of design just has to live with: There were moments, at least in my playthrough, where I was stuck on a very specific puzzle or mystery and was basically just redoing runs until I rolled the specific room or combination of rooms I needed to figure it out.If you have multiple things going on, it's not a problem, because the more things you're looking for, the more likely it is to encounter one of them, but if you're at a point where you've solved all but one thing, before finding new mysteries, it's an absolute slog. But regardless I'd absolutely recommend it. It's definitely a game I'd recommend keeping a physical notebook for. There's lots of information you find bit by bit or stuff that's obviously an answer to a question you haven't found yet and keeping it all in your head is borderline impossible.

I just finished with my replay of King of Cards and I still admire how committed the devs were to making this guy into an absolutely irredeemable nigger. He goes through a full hero's journey, gains a home base, a huge cast of devoted friends and family, becomes the fucking chosen one to an alien race and gains vast wealth but he throws it all away and basically becomes a low level pawn for the sorceress just for a meaningless title because he is just that dumb and self-centered. Then he loses it almost immediately when Shovel of Hope stars. Good stuff.Shame we never got DLC for the other knights since what we did get was stellar. Would have been interesting to see what they could have done with them.
>>570622309Also King Knight's mom is hot as fuck and the in game sprites did her dirty.

>>570556026Haven't watched the video and I'm not going to, but I think that's the first time I've ever seen Talos Principle labelled as a "hard" puzzle game. It's the kind of puzzle game where you'll get stuck on a puzzle for 15-30 minutes once in a while but otherwise walk through most of the game. Road to Gehenna is pretty tough, but that's a separate campaign intended for postgame. Not that Talos Principle isn't fun. It's one of my favourite games of all time.

Alright reached the end of voidling bound's actual content. Felt like it ended just as it was getting good, much shorter than I expected at 15 hours on the 2nd highest difficulty. The endgame is just an infinite scaling mode that adds random modifiers for the run every now and again, and death making you lose all resources you gained in that run. No level skip and 100% the codex requires reaching level 50 of the infinite mission on all nine creature types. Also yes one run did afford me only enough to max out 1 creatures passive tree and yes I did have to watch the egg gacha go 23 times because the hatchery can only do 5 eggs at a time. As for creating a maxed out monster, super piss easy since the caps are so low at 20 base stats. My one mistake was not doing more eugenics for a +5 in a stat instead of the +1 that was passed down this dude's bloodline. Regardless I'm proud of my immortal fat son and his edgelord parasite

You guys are still talking about ape escape 3? Did you know that the song Sayaka sings in the intro is actually a complete song and was translated in every languages the game was translated in? What's funny about that? Well, in the intro you can only hear the chorus. Which was kept untranslated in all versions except the American English version. The song is called "Happy Sensation". What is truly fascinating about that part of the translation is that for once, the American translation is the accurate one. As I said previously, the American translation took a lot of liberties in other places but for that specific instance, it's the European version (all are based on the same script from what I can tell) that changed the lyrics. The original song is a classic lovey song with a bunny theme (which ties nicely with Sayaka's backpack). The European version is about monkey business. What is weird is that since they didn't change the chorus, it's still about rabbit... In Japanese. But the rest is about monkeys...To be fair, ape escape's translation is full of weird oddities like that and 3 in particular must have been a pain in the ass to translate. >>570706406There is a huge difference between trying to adapt something to a different audience who doesn't have the codes to understand it and just rewriting the entire thing. Ape escape is not poorly translated, it just has a few interesting decisions and 2 English translations which allows us to see how the same problem can be solved in different ways.I can give you an example in the other direction if you want. In cross code, Lukas often uses "Holerö!" as a greeting, it's a rare way to say hello in German and a reference to old nintendo translations. The Japanese translation of cross code opted to replace "holerö" by "guten tag", why is that? Because it's a very obscure German word no Japanese would reasonably associate with Germans, his in-game name "Schneider" would be reasonable enough for most western audiences but likely not enough for the average Japanese player. So a decision had to be taken, you either keep his obscure "holerö" greetings or you change it to something that would mark him clearly as German in the same way Emilie's "bonjour" instantly flags her as French.

Dunno what to think about this one to be honest. I was really looking forward to it, but actually playing it, it feels a bit to repetitive. Maybe the missions will be a bit more diverse in 1.0 but somehow it just doesn't really grab me.Plus I don't care too much for the setting, if I'm being honest. Also took A LOT of notes on Blue Prince, gotta get back into that one of these days and really hope I can still parse whatever the fuck I wrote down. And sometimes there's just some "disposable" short term info I need to scribble down, like coordinates for triangulating ore in Vintage Story. So all in all I'd say I'm not doing it too often, but then again that might relate to the types of games I'm playing

You can choose between three starting professions (innkeeper, smith, alchemist) and all mechanics seem to be unlocked with the only limit being time (top right corner)But as I said, I really don't like how it looks, I don't like this weird muddy wannabe realism and can't be fucked to spend the time to make it look right, if it's just a demo.A lot of the menuing feels clunky, but I hope that's something that you get used to with more experience.I'd definitely would like to enjoy this game, once it's out.

Greg, two goons and an ape with a grenade launcher makes life very hard when getting hit flinches you. If I killed the artillery guy first I'd get overwhelmed in melee, but if I took out a goon then the ape would either kill me in one shot or I'd be left in chip damage range. Eventually figured out I should kill a goon, hide behind a rock and pistol down the other goon. Though going off of the few I've read reviews, Guild 2 is more of a medieval sims with some economic simulation tacked one, while the new one did away with most of the life sim elements to focus more on the management side of things. And I think I'm personally more interested in the latter.I want Crusader Kings 2 Republic gameplay but on a micro scale

>>570845294I think you're helping me understand what rubbed me the wrong way about it.I think the most fun I had was the counter battery mission, where a timer starts as soon as you fire the first shot so it was nice to come up with a double check a plan and execute it as quickly as possible and improvising when I fucked up and missed one of the enemy arty positions. But overall I'm not quite sure what else they can add beyond what was already in the demo to make it more engaging.I think it's a fun time-waster to play one mission in the evening

>>570845294I wouldn't expect the tutorials and first two missions to be difficult.

>>570845294I imagine this game would benefit immensity if it was multiplayer I know multiplayer games are harder to makeMaybe it would need a tiny bit more complexity or difficulty to accommodate that but if the guy calculating fire solutions and fire missions, the guy aiming the gun and the guy loading and shooting would be three different people I imagine that could be quite a good time.
Vagrus anon, and whoever else can help my retarded ass.I don't understand the trading prices. On top is the "difference" mode, in which the prices are compared with the left most settlement. And neither the red rectangles or the plus or minus signs, as sometimes they are in both, or a plus sign on a red rectangle. For example:Coal is bought at Velaris for 186 coins, and sold at Arken for 174. That would be a price difference at Arken of 186-174= 21 coins, but in the game it says, is sell price of a green rectangle +23 coins.Ivory is sold at Velaris for 44 coins, and bought at Arken for 38. But the difference says is a red rectangle -6 coins. When the difference of price is 54-38 = 16 coins. I'm loving the worldbuilding and I'm reading every single codex entry about the world. But the commerce thing doesn't seem right, and the game is unforgiving to the pointt that if I do more than 2 negative profit trades, I will gameover. Please, explain this for my retarded self. Don't make me go to discord or reddit for help.
>>570832823comfy but the clash between smooth 3d people and minecraft-esque environment is jarring
>>570851113You could just increase the amount of targets in a given time or decrease time until counter battery fire reaches the players. As it is, a single player spends probably most of his time running between stations unless the beginning of the mission calls for lengthy map plotting. Multiple players could be working their specific stations pretty much constantly because the three major steps rely on each one being prepared to accomplish anything, The most unavoidable downtime is waiting for the guns to elevate.Singleplayer is one guy meticulously checking math and completing steps one after another, multyplayer would be high speed cooperative artillery gunnery.
Is Blasphemous 2 better than the first?>>570826689Also wondering this, popped up on my Steam "for you" page.
>>570826689Concept-wise it was ok, but it felt very grindy to me. I couldn't get into it, never finished it (I played it a couple times, gave it a good 3 hours total). I'd recommend Enter the Gungeon - it's cheaper than Skul is right now too (1/3 as much).
>>570853652Also I imagine staying synchronized under stress would be a fun challenge. If the person loading the shells and the person aiming are two different people, and there are multiple active fire missions, you'd have to make sure everyone is looking at the same thing and so on.But also adding more things that can go wrong with the gun might be a cool angle. I remember when the lads and I played the Jumpship (now called Jumpspace for some reason) demo, I had a lot of fun doing damage control around the ship, while everyone else was relying on me doing my job so they had the systems active to do theirs.
Average profit margin doing low level Trading House hauling, is around 15-30% after subtracting wages and food supplies. Then there's the price of healing supplies and replacing personnel after combat, if I get ambushed.
>>570851448Yeah this part is a bit fucky, I struggled with it aswell and truth be told I think this whole interface is kinda ass. It's been a while since I've played but from what I remember I think what you're seeing in the difference mode is the difference between sell prices and buy prices, so the use case isn't "where can I make a profit with this" and more "can I get this for cheaper in another place". So I don't know if there is a better way to do it, but I usually go to Display Price: Full and also select the checkbox for showing the price for full stacks (since that's what I'll be transporting, if I can afford it). And then just scan Buy prices in the current settlement vs Sell prices at my destination. Some more general advice, if you're interested take it with a grain of salt, this is just shit I found out by myself and may or may not be 100% true:It feels like hauling contracts for the various factions pay better then just trading yourself, I usually take as many contracts as I can and then just fill up the rest of my empty slots with profitable cargoWhat the factions want to ship from where to where can often be an indication of which goods are profitable to trade between two placesMany places have resources marked as "in demand" that will show up as such in the market tab, but only if you actually have them in your inventoryMany settlements have some good that's very plentiful (for example Marble in Arken if I recall correctly), chances are it's gonna be very cheap to buyRumors obviously also help you to find which places have a high supply/or demand for a given good. I'm pretty sure you can find out about the Arken marble supply through a rumor that also suggests where you could ship it toBe careful with contraband. I got fucked once, thinking I'd make a killing, because the price tab said a good would sell for a lot at a given city, but it was actually illegal there, so nobody on the open market would but it
>>570853435Yup, I'm hoping that's something that'll be easy to get used to once you play for a while.I think what appeals to me most about the game is that I really enjoy rags to riches type games and starting out flipping burgers in some seedy diner and working up to owning a luxury restaurant sounds pretty cool

>>570915392>>569431462 okay this seems good
>>570915392Depends on what you're looking for. It's a chore simulator first and foremost, but I personally enjoy it for that. It's a very slow burn kind of horror, where the spookiest thing is the ever present feeling that something is deeply off about the facility you've been assigned to, but it's hard to place your finger on what exactly questions like "why is it abandoned?" "why am I alone in a facility that's clearly designed for a team of people?" "what's behind the locked door?" came to my mind when I first playedAlso, at least in my experience so far, you miss quite a bit of the spooky shit unless you go and seek it out. And this tension between your curiosity and desire for security is really fun.On top of that I just really enjoy the chores like cleaning/restoring the base, growing crops, processing signals, upgrading and maintaining the ATV and so on. It's like on of those cleaning games, except the cleaning feels meaningful, because it is contextualized by the fact that you're cleaning the place where you most of the game in.I could go on, but I think you're getting the picture. Also someone in here recommended me to set the day speed to around 0.7-0.8 in the settings of your save. I personally enjoy playing this way a lot more, because otherwise I spend the whole day grinding the daily task with no time left to explore or do other stuff, because my autistic ass won't let me not do the tasks. So keep that in mind in case that's something that will end up annoying you too
>>570916189> Also someone in here recommended me to set the day speed to around 0.7-0.8 in the settings of your saveI consider to set it to 0.9 or back to 1, because at week 6 days feel lasting too long: there is plenty of free time and nothing is happening. I send 5 signals every day, but there are 30 more in a crate ready and that number only grows.
>>570916189>It's a chore simulator first and foremost, whatwhy would anyone do thatlike I get it's a free game but stillwhy would you want to clean your virtual roomI have enough of a bitch ass lazy bastard girlfriend that doesn't clean up after herself not to want to clean up shit when I'm supposed to relax

>>570919034>hey do you wanna check out this weird indie horror game everyone is talking about with aliens>yeah bro you gotta pick up the litter first and foremost that's the main part of the game what are you DUMB or something lmao
>>570918195I'm still tweaking the setting myself. Maybe the intended balance is that you're not supposed to complete the whole tasks at first and focus on upgrading your equipment to meet quota. And exploring, base maintenance and daily tasks are supposed to be an either or trade off, who knows.>>570918715why would anyone want to do anything? As I said, it's like one of those cleaning up/home renovation games that are dime a dozen on steam, except here it serves the purposes of streamlining a lot of the other gameplay. You move into an abandoned base and making it less abandoned gives me the same satisfaction the base building part does in a base building game. Then again, I can understand where you're coming from, I feel very similarly about any game that features photography for example>>570919130>that's the main part of the gameWho said that? There's an anon in this very thread or last one I think who talked about how he just ignores that part because it doesn't appeal to him.

>>570919130>>570920192Ohh, or it about me calling it a chore simulator in >>570916189?My bad, maybe I was a little unclear with that. I included maintaining the equipment, processing the signals filling your daily quota etc as part of the "chores" when I said that. You need to record base telemetry and go out collect some data from the various satellite dishes. Dishes and radars can break down and you need to go out and fix them. The three substations that power your base degrade over time and so on and so forth. But yeah that's the basic appeal of it, you're there to do a "boring" job, while something feels deeply wrong about the place and occasionally paranormal shit happens.A little like No one lives under the lighthouse but not linearly scripted.
>>570920840Hmmmaybe I misjudged it thenI saw a review of that one and it seemed interestingwell, it's free, and other than that it seems solidI'll give it a whirl
>>570920931It was recommended to me as My Summer Car but you're a SETI researcher, so a game with a "main goal" and a huge sandbox around it to fuck around with and find your own fun. I think having a game like that in the horror genre is what makes it so unique to people, but I have way too little experience with these kinds of games to judge. Also your experience may vary, as I said some of the paranormal stuff needs to be sought out and I'm too much of a pussy to do that (plus I've never made it more than a few in game weeks into the game on a single save, so maybe it picks up more later)

>>570938885We are too separated from that context to make the relation. The average Spaniard has no idea about the racial concerns of the US (my parents, to this day, can't believe the whole N-word business is an actual thing, why, they've seen it in movies) and in our environment we enjoy our own landscape of regional racism, as well as racism towards Spanish-speaking South American countries.Do note, when we learn English, it's generally British English, not American, and for us it's not about communicating with the US, but about lingua franca through the EU and overseas. The perception of each other's context is really distorted I think. Also I'm sorry but we used to think that electing Bush fucking TWICE already meant you guys were a bunch of inbred monkeys, Trump has somehow made that worse. That being said, I personally am pretty glad the language extended in the way it did. Means that now the bulk of immigration comes from those countries, rather than filling the place with Muslims. If you ask me Hernán Cortés deserves a huge statue in the center of Madrid right about now.

>>570935715Huh, despite people saying this was a hard game I don't think I've ever had to savescum and after the first few ingame months money rarely was a problem.Maybe I just stuck with some of the safe grinds for a really long time?Though I absolutely agree on exploration being a bit weird. What I disliked is how there isn't a lot of in-universe reason to go explore too far from your home turf. Sure I as a player want to go check out the other cities and the DLC area, but what reason would my caravan leader have to give up a well known and profitable route?I wonder if maybe your operation can eventually grow big enough that doing the same route to often can actually exhaust the supply and demand for a long enough time that you need to leave and let it recover
>>570945132>Maybe I just stuck with some of the safe grinds for a really long time?I lost like 5-6 times at the tutorial. And then several other times by random encounters, bad plot decisions. And specially because despite the the dragon girl mission saying I had 22 days left to complete it, the girl got mad and left because "you don't seem to want to go to the outpost".Now I'm grinding the Deven-Arken-Shelter route because Ashkul's knows I need the coin.

>>570951589>Also I guess the room for error grows a little once you are later in the game.I skillisue a lot because I'm a retard. But now I finally have more than 2 Bross from bankruptcy. And specially, I have unlocked tier 1 contracts. From the prices I have written down, trading on your own is kinda shitty, as with 4-5 cargo slots, you are only left with 1 cargo slot for goods, and the rest are supplies. So contracts have much, much more profitable. The margins go from 9-10% to minimum 15%(as far as my shitty maths and notes says). There are also some very BS encounters that makes you either loose all the cargo(making you pay the trading houses a shitton because of missing cargo), all the supplies or both. Without taking into account how many soldiers/beasts/workers/slaves you loose and companions getting wounded. When the game first came out, I read the warning that devs put about the game being hard. I also read that there was a in-game timer, and if you spent all the time trading, you would be locked out of practically all the main story missions. But it was removed because it forced new players either ragequit, or have to read a bazillion guides, about how to min-max and rush all the meta strategies, not be locked out of the game's stories. Which given how much this game touts itself us plot-heavy, seems a retarded thing to do.
>>570959778I did figure that fences are superior on my own, but I liked to have a "proper" door, so kept the crude doors and I added the fences outside, like this. Its redundant, but I got used to it. I like to open my door, take a breath, then look around for monsters, with the fence still closed. I want to properly illuminate my farm outside, before removing it.

>>570951589Doing some maths for 2 contracts(now that I have an extra beast of burden) to Shelter that is 3-4 days away. Calculating the predicted maximum days of 4.A single cargo slot/stack of supplies of 250 units are 500 coins.Daily wages are 59 coins.168 units of supplies are needed for a 4 day trek(I have some passengers).236 coins for crew wages for 4 days.So in total I need 572 worth of coins for the whole trip. And each contract I have(2 slot contracts, 1 slot contracts pay less) gives 1000 and 1001 coins. My total benefits would be 1428 coins. If I had only a single 2 slot contract, I would only have 429 coins of benefit. Now the actual results. I had a whistling dust storm event, which I failed. Loosing 1 worker and 3 morale. Which made me go from 10 movement points to 8. Prolonging the trip by 2 whole days, which costed me 133 coins. For a total of 705 in just travel expenses plus the worker I lost.So the total of my real trip were 723 coins of benefit. Which is 32% of benefit.Note that my maths are shit, and that supplies seems to cost less if bought by the stack(I think, I'm not sure why it says "this has an average valuer of X").
>>570971631
>>570968512yeah, you're dead on the money, faction contracts are much more profitable and trading feels more like a side hustle you do when you have slots to spare or want to go to a city that has no contracts at the moment. Not sure how I feel about that personally, but at least it gives you some sense of where to go.>There are also some very BS encounters that makes you either loose all the cargo(making you pay the trading houses a shitton because of missing cargo), all the supplies or bothBtw you are aware that you can try to avoid many of the fights you run into, right? Asking just in case. Also the roads are safer at the expense of the tax collectors fucking you over.>When the game first came out, I read the warning that devs put about the game being hard. I also read that there was a in-game timer, and if you spent all the time trading, you would be locked out of practically all the main story missionsOh that's interesting. pretty sure I've started playing when that was already gone. In fact I vaguely remember finding a blogpost by the devs where they go into detail about game design philosophies and stuff. But I never got to read it and then lost it.Also speaking of the stories. I felt like the RPG side of the game was by far the weakest. Many quests have one, maximum two outcomes and it feels like your input matters little, you're just going through a linear story. I'm fine with that, branching paths are hard to make. But still I can remember at least a few moments, where I wish there'd be more than one options to solve a quest.Infiltrating that one bandit camp comes to mind, not sure if you've done that yet.
>>570971887>supplies seems to cost less if bought by the stackReally? I don't think they did when I played. It's dangerous, but metal sells well and it's kinda fun thematically
>>570973464>Btw you are aware that you can try to avoid many of the fights you run into, right? Had to bribe 2 encounters, fight one and use beast lures and a slave for another one. I remember them being cheaper in major cities though and twice or even thrice the price in remote settlements. Now that I look at it. It seems the average price is like a price history of how much the total supplies you bought from different settlements adds up, by the unit, not the stack. Which threw me off because some other places buy by the stack, like Fort Vitrium or whatever it is called.>>570974052>but on my latest run I've made my starting capital by mining precious metals. >>570997925Notch programmed minicraft in 48 hours for a competition. The problem isn't that programming a game is hard it's that the entire planet is facing brain drain right now because every government in the world that is supposed to represent it's own peoples interests and nothing else is compromised and acting against it's own peoples interests. The reasons for which can only lay in the land of the conspiratorial or the esoteric. How is anyone supposed to be creative when one has to spend that creativity coming up with multi step coping mechanisms to find a reason to go to the grocery store? It's simply easier to call a grocery delivery service operated by foreigners for pennies and to just eat top ramen with an egg in it. I wish I could have faith and believe Iron Nest is gonna have the improvements it needs on launch.IIRC its a 2 man ESL dev team aiming for an august release.Elevation doesn't do anything except act as a distance slider, an elevation of 0 will have the shell land directly under the nest.Somehow its coded poorly enough that changing the max elevation would be a massive undertaking according to the devs. The steam page description is AI written, which is forgivable because the devs are very ESL but I don't trust devs who can't cobble together enough english to write a steam description. As others have pointed out here and in the /v/ nextfest threads the missions are very simple and don't require much more than baby's first triangulation followed by burning time rotating/elevating. You're only required to work quickly once and its trivial if you just plan it all out before firing your first shot.God I hope PVKK fulfills all my autistic wishes. Every delay makes me think its trapped in development hell, but I'll pretend that it just needs that long to be good. Also WW1 didn't happen in this timeline. And it's not like you need any help on the crime part. In the very first mission you're tasked to flatten an entire city block in your own city, because there are some subversive elements gathering there. Also still have no clue what that was about, but in the tutorial, where you learn how to fire the gun with the in-game justification that it's for calibration purposes, you're just lobbing a shell in the middle of a city too.

I somehow still managed to spend over 3h on the demo. I think it's a nice turn of your brain and get some reward chemicals kind of game to kill 30-60mins in the evening. Probably my favorite part is, as you said, planning out all your fire missions and then executing them while on the clock.Reminded me of carefully planning an attack run in UBOAT somehow.>PVKKat the very least that game's canon looks like it was actually designed to be operated by one person. I get what they were going for conceptually, but my favorite part was in the first half of the game, but that could be highly subjective.>Some people say it's a roguelite, some say it isn't. What's the deal?I guess the closest comparison I'd draw is something like Hades? Most of the moment to moment gameplay is roguelike, but it's part of a bigger story that has a clear ending and it's a game that you can actually finish>Is it worth it for $7.50?Definitely. It has some neat twists on the genre that I won't spoil that, while I didn't enjoy all of them at least made me go "wow that's a cool idea". And the card game itself was also fun. If 20ish hours of fun are worth it for you, I'd say go for it.>Does it have any replay value?I've only played the story mode once so far, can't say how much replay value you get from that. But once you reach end credits you do unlock an endless mode that, from what I recall, has some unique items, cards and challenge modifiers that are only available during that. So if you're craving more after that you can definitely keep playing
>>571022395It's a historic moment.
>>571023665>A lot of old games would probably have benefited from a few extra decades of tinkering.Hard no.That would only have turned them into aimless feature creep slop akin to what we have now and robbed us of other great works their developers would have otherwise created in that time.
>>571023189Oh wait, there is one thing I forgot to consider
>A lot of old games would probably have benefited from a few extra decades of tinkering. This is just such a completely retarded argument I don't even.Imagine if Interplay/BIS devs spent a few decades polishing Bard's Tale instead of growing up as individuals to make countless RPG classics. kek
>>570997925Are you talking about the era where they shat out a new AssCreed and CoD every year? or is that still the case and I just stopped caring?I guess there is definitely some mismanagement and the like involved but sometimes it's just small teams who are working as fast as they can with what they have

ah, this almost makes being nearly killed by tentacular horrors beyond human comprehension almost worth it. i love whale sharks.
Battle Brother update.
>>571048239
>>571048239>>571048721I'm happy they still update it, though at this point I'm more worried about how much added modding support they do. Like when they increased the max RAM limit without need of third party programs.
Now that I have 350 Bross in my coinpurse, I can allow to spoil my crew. The early game is quite brutal, but once you get enough coin to pay for lost cargo, beast/undead lures and enough beast of burden to increase your profit margins, it is a lot easier. It kinda explains why the game was first designed with a timer. And why people ragequitted or looked at guides to minmax.
>>571007983did you have the same issue i did on the counterbattery mission where the lights didn't come on properly even after you reset the power?i liked what i played but it did seem like an awful lot of waiting and not a lot of variationi did get one target instruction that used distance from spotters instead of angle and that was a little more just because i couldn't figure out any tool to draw a circle on the map>max elevation would be a huge undertaking???also it's been a long-ass time since i studied physics but i thought maximum distance was always achieved at 45. maybe that's only without air resistance
>>571018882the general and king are also both marked as priority targets in that mission but i was out of ammo to try
>>571051132>lights didn't come on properly even after you reset the power?Yeah I ended up restarting the game and that fixed it.>i couldn't figure out any tool to draw a circle on the mapTheres a compass on/beside your clipboard you can select to do circles.>maximum distance was always achieved at 45yeah, going above 45 lowers your range but lets your shells land more squarely from above. In iron nest however you just go further the higher the angle, because its just a go more far slider.
I, too, treat little girls very gently.
>>571028047where?
>>571026776CHOMP
>>571051132>>571052259>going above 45 lowers your range but lets your shells land more squarely from aboveAlso longer flight times. There's some crazy fuckshit that modern ballistics computers can do. Like calculate how to shoot multiple shells and make them all land at the same time, so whoever you're shooting at doesn't have time to take cover after the first shot lands.>because its just a go more far sliderI don't want to be a shitter, since I've never made a game in my life, but I'm honestly a little baffled by this. If you're simplifying the ballistics anyways and just assume elevation doesn't matter, I can't imagine it's that difficult to write a few lines of code that tells how far away a parabola would intersect the ground.
>>570951104There already are some original ones, though. Mostly in the east.
Trying some more demosThere's nothing I hate more than a game looking kinda off and me having no clue which setting causes it.Shit is all muddy and blurry in the distance and I don't know why. Upscaling is disabled and AA can't be turned off.Game is called Rivage, I think it's some sort of puzzle solving walking sim. I don't have high hopes for it beyond the setting being neat
>>571054780I enjoyed the demo
TIL: Settlements can and will run out of supplies.Well, that will make me want to invest in hunting/foraging.
>>571054780Same regarding Rivage. The demo was quite mid.
>>571036890holy crap
My coin purse is hurt. The trading expedition to Avernum has cost me over 30 Bross, and that was with some crystals from Lumen that I kept to sell. And the use of supplies is crazy given that you can only move 3 nodes without force marching.I don't know how it would be with the old story timer, or a bigger comitatus.Anyway, time to see if I can get some metal.
Man, I wish I could milk spiderfag.
>>571059214What?
>>571054780Well dunno. Maybe it's a skill issue, but I really don't like how the game looks. As if it's being upscaled from a lower resolution but according to the settings it isn't.I'm not autistic about games looking hyper-realistic, but this kind of muddy look is something that I just can't stand for some reason.Gonna go play another demo
>>571059214excuse me sir
>>571059214Tab back in, spiderfag.
More misc than indie, but holy fucking shit. This is such a bad first impression it makes me laugh.Game is 1666: Amsterdam, made by the creative director of AssCreed 1 through Brotherhood and by the looks of it, it's AssCreed, but you play a period appropriate witch with magic powers and a spirit animal and shit. Looked vaguely interesting.BUT, after a very short ritual scene that serves as a tutorial for the most basic magic interaction, you're kicked into a modern day section. Who thought this was a good idea, holy shit? And it's unfathomably boring too, you visit some dude in a library to help you decipher a letter and the gameplay so far has been comically bad. You go to the map, find which number the bookshelf he wants you to look in is and go to the bookshelf to interact. What's even funnier is the second time, where it's physically impossible to reach the bookshelf in time before he tells you at least THRICE that you should look for the Rembrandt section.Fuck me, how did THIS is what they want to lead their demo with?
यह देखकर खुशी हुई कि इंडिया गेम्स जनरल है, सभी को नमस्ते।
>>571052259>Theres a compass on/beside your clipboard you can select to do circles. But for some reason it *only* draws dashed circles, which made for a fucking awful guessing game when trying to find the intersection between two spotters on the opposite ends of the map (huge gaps between dashes)
>>571064256This is not the designated shitting street. Move along Swapnil.
Yes, i can't wait to spend $29,99 on the Narcissistic, fat-hating, Bi but slightly homophobic, two-timing and dumb as a rock spy/war criminal"but unironically
>>571065737
>>571063929Okay fuck dude, this was hilariously bad.I'm gonna keep an eye on it, because it has a big name attached to it, but this demo was an anti-advertisement. Imagine playing a demo for AssCreed II, but it's only a Desmond section and the cutscene where Ezio is an infant.
>>571063929Sounds like someone wanted to tell a story, not make a game.
>>571068050Judging by the little teaser cinematic at the end the game does have gameplay with combat and magic powers and shit and I understand if maybe it's not ready to show yet and they wanted to just make a little narrative preview to get you hooked. But it feels like they've chosen the most bland and uninteresting part to show off.I'm assuming the meat and bones of the game will be playing a witch in 17th century Amsterdam, but 80% of the demo is the most bland modern day section imaginable. It's a double flashback of a girl getting a letter from her father who tells her how he got sent back in time to be the spirit animal of the witch you play (or something along those lines) and I'm baffled how they thought THAT would be putting their best foot forward to make people interested in the game.
>>571068892From what you said, it really sounds like they focused on teasing the story. And the problem is that we don't play games for the story first.
>>571069016That and that they picked the most boring part of the story.Going back to my AssCreed II comparison, if you were to tease the story of that, you'd probably want to tease "Ezio wants to become an assassin and avenge his family" not "Desmond, goes back in time to relieve the memories of his ancestor"
>>571069965I haven't played much Assassin's Creed, except maybe Black Flag, but I think I get what you mean. It'd be like advertising playing as a pirate, and then the demo is just you walking around Pentex or whatever it's called, and only getting to play the first introduction of Connor as he stalks the Templar.
Bumping with some demo's I'm about to try
Any puzzle demos worth trying besides Blow's?

>>571073704here's a rec for you.
>>571031659It is kind of a roguelite but each section is permanently cleared when you clear it so it is more like multiple roguelites along with a section or two that is more traditional.>>571033806I swear if the endless mode let you play through complete versions of Grimora and Magnificus' stages or had a mode based on the pixelated stage I would probably still be playing it to this day. It is a shame it was just a longer version of the first segment.
>>571072419Vholume is fun.Parkour game in a brutalist hellscape. Controls are super simple: jump, wallrun, slide but chaining them together feels intuitive and fun. The maps are completely open, but to progress you need to run a certain set of checkpoints in a certain time. I imagine there'll be some skill expression involved in route optimization.>>571073043Aye, will do.I'm my friend group's little critter expert. Also I thin you're actually playing the mouse, not the owl
>>571074091>VholumeLooks sick. Love me megastructures.
cool whale
>>571069965Desmond was such a terrible idea. The series would have been so much better if he just wasn't a part of the narrative.
>decide to do an expedition to Avernum as they say there's cheap metal to buy there>bring a few stacks of crystals>spent a week in the turbo desert of death>the price for the crystal is shit, barely 20% more than the purchase cost>get some metals>mysterious mage tells me I can hire a mage in a nearby settlement>spent a week in the turbo desert of death>hire said mage>in the turbo desert of death>find an oasis in which they sell fruit>get options to either buy fruit for the comitatus or buy even more for the slaves too>decide to buy more for the slaves as I've been pushing them to the extreme, so I can get out of turbo desert of hell>purchasing fruits for the slaves too makes everyone but the dragongirl loose loyalty to me>spent another week in the turbo desert of death>when I arrive at the imperial road and set down camp to pass the night, sounds of fights and screams wake me up>it's demons>the mage that is supposedly an adept at summoning demons had an oopsie>had to tardwrangle my comitatus to kill said demons>reach Deven>think I will be able to sell the metal for good coin>barely a 23% profit margin on metal>a month and some later I'm 270~ Bross poorer, have a mage that summons fuck you demons randomly and practically all my companions hate meThis game really really punish you for exploring. Worst of all is that there's barely 1 contract, every week or so, that makes you go outside the imperial road route of Deven-Ash-Arken-Shelter-Lumen-Mines of Plenty. I also really really really don't know how the game expected you to do this shit AND have a global timer to do quests or you are locked of 80% of the game.
Do NOT save this signal!
>>571075262why not
>>571074840I remember actually liking the Desmond parts when the game came out for some reason. The whole secret society controlling the world from the shadows and hiding the fact that all conspiracy theories are actually true plotline really blew my mind back then and I kinda liked his "character arc" but I was also a dumb teenager with my taste for media just starting to developI remember wishing they would make a fully fledged Desmond game. But looking back I understand why people hated it, it really fucks with the pacing. And especially after that they really dropped the ball on the modern day storyline. The one in Assassins Creed 4 was horrendous
>>571075698Just don't. Trust me.
>>571076434but it looks like a free pc
>>571076591This is where those download RAM sites get their stuff. It's bad news.
>>571072419Didn't even finish VtM, just not my cup of tea. I mus have had it confused with one of the dozen vampire games announced in the various game shows recently. This one looks like it's basically a VN with a handful of gameplay systems behind it.But at that point I'd rather just pick up a book, if I'm being honest.
>>571069965Asscreed id say is the definition of wasted potential, it was basically a perfect foundation for further IP expansion as it could have been easy to tinker with the mechanics and add on to it, but lazy execs got their hands on it and decided to milk the original formula as much as possible. It doesnt help that they obviously fired or ousted whoever was originally in control of the narrative aspects, because the story became so ridiculous as time went on. Wasnt it the 3rd game or so where you play as an italian ancestor and it end with you having a fisticuff with the fucking pope, and the vatican being revealed be ancient aliums? That the perfect exemple of jumping the shark. I cant even imagine how it looked in the room when they were pitching their story ideas.
>>571077428That was the second game and it was also the best one. The series was pretty stupid from jump.
>>571072419Deep Dish Dungeon is cozy and I think the main question is, how much content it'll have.It is simple, but does capture the feeling of delving into a dungeon, setting up camp, cooking food and so on. Gonna shelve this one for now and see if I can't play the rest of the demo with some buddies of mine
>>571072419Fuck.Hawthorn needs a lot more time in the oven and I'm not sure if even that can save it.I would want to love this so much, you play a critter (Mouse, Otter or Owl) in a village full of other critters and kinda help manage it? I honesty have no idea what the gameplay even is, you can gather resources and the other villagers will help you if you assign something to be built. But this just has overambitious first project written all over it.I hate to talk shit about something that somebody else clearly put time and effort in, but man, this just ain't it
>>571072419>>571082284That sounds fun. Why wouldn't the devs finish it?
>>571082834Oh I'm sure they will, but somehow this whole thing just feels so aimless and without a tight vision of what the game is supposed to be.I hope I'm wrong. I don't actually know much about gamedev, so maybe it's normal to have something like this as a proof of concept prototype whatever. I remember seeing how the earliest version of Subnautica were just a box-shaped submarine in the ocean.
>>571082284Sounds like CInnabunny, "just" a sandbox without any clear aim. Animal Crossing inspired a lot of people to make mediocre games.
>>571084718Why Animal Crossing in particular
>>571084840Because it started the trend of giving you a very vague, long-term objective, and then gives you an insane optional amount of crap to do to keep yourself busy.
