The Wheel has turned once again

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.
The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 3400 units, 1100 spells and 400 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them. It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.
Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

It depends on your nation but generally no temples are destroyed if an enemy takes your province even with a light raid so the standard is to temple forts plus special cases such as lizard shaman provinces

Templing on borders is aggressive because if enemy dominion takes over your land you DONT gain the positive effects from it but DO take the negative ones so you lose out on a lot. Plus it puts you at risk of hostile global spells that work via dominion. And allows enemy gods to invade. Do not leave temples undefended or someone will raid them most likely

This almost never comes up in domg games in an overtly problematic way anyway.
The only time magic phase gem burning becomes a problem is when 2-3 discord fags all coordinate attacks at the same time to waste your gems.

That's a shitload of gold and a good way to have someone walk in with a few goblins and set them all on fire.
5 temples increase your holy points (for recruiting sacreds, and for increasing candle chance) by 1, and each temple tries to produce a candle. If you really need either thing, then make more temples. Most nations are perfectly happy with one per fort, plus maybe one near some neighbor with particularly shitty and strong dominion like MA Ermor.

Wait are you sure? I'm pretty sure dominion is dominion, period. There's some things like pretender HP and the dominion invulnerability trait that obviously only work with your own dominion, but it is a legit strategy to go with trash scales and rely on enjoying your neighbor's dominion. For example with Mictlan, who only generates candles by blood sacrificing so you can limit it to 2-3 provinces away from your capital and enjoy your neighbor's investment in scales while you put all your points into a hellbless

Not an "entire strategy", but for some tendies you can plan lot.
Mother of Monsters isn't really one of these though , she is one of the better titans if you can handle her poison aura. She isn't worth it for her freespawn specifically. You do not get a lot of it. If you really wanted to lean on the crossbreeding thing the freaklord is much cheaper, although using a pretender to just cast crossbreeding isnt a very good use of one.
Mother of Monsters is more of a early midgame combat titan, and a natural holder of the blood/nature path which can unlock lots of stuff for certain nations.

You got lucky because they got rid of the barbarians, who would have torn your giants a new one. Barbarians get defeated by militia (basically anything with spears and numbers), but they excel at wrecking big dangerous units in small numbers, including giants and even many monstrous awake expanders.
I don't think that small flock of birds would have had much success against your giants unless they got lucky.
Still be careful about overcommiting. Gold income and gems are set to 250% those of a vanilla game and all provinces are large. Each province is generating 300-500 gold per turn and fuck knows how many gems, so you might be better off pulling back and conquering your lot so you don't fall behind economically, since each province has such a strong impact.
On the other hand you're winning and it might take a while until someone else amasses three points, so you do you, it seems to be working

I mean it seems to do something. The most dangerous stuff in my circle is like 30 bone tribe dudes in one province, or the one with a handful of cav and a few light infantries and archers in another. Even the typical horde like the African style indies, whatever they're called, is just 40 guys instead of 70+.
I expected the difference between indies 4 and 1 to be bigger, though. Although the indies 999 game had like 500 deer tribe warriors, so the scale kinda fits after all

I'm already pulling It can be enough gold to start forting the entire cap circle right away and it can mean a good few turns of pumping out extra mages..With the super fast research, it can easily turn into being multiple levels of research ahead and getting first to all the nice artifacts.

The gold boost is not that critical since as soon as the army you'll build with it get smashed, which is likely to happen sooner or later, you'll be back to the exact same 5 provinces eco as anybody else. More important in my opinion is the research edge you may get if you have a tight plan.

The thing is that the very first points were free (starting army) to get. It was to be decided on the toss of the RNG, but now each new point is going to get increasingly more costly to acquire, while everybody's eco will look increasingly alike.
