I have years (3 years) of experience with them, and the thing is that AI very, very subtly starts guiding or redirecting your conversations, models, or ways of creating and building things toward a very controlled standard. >>571664262fortunately i am pretty creative, at least i feel like i am, that's why i want to learn gamedev so i can have an outlet for it. my various game ideas are fairly well defined (some more than others).if i am to use AI i will likely just use it for learning and answering questions rather than generating code directly. maybe that's less efficient than just having claude or something do everything, but it seems like it will be more fun.

Why do people hate on object oriented programming so much? apparently unreal engine is going to drop it and everyone is jerking themselves off at the news. maybe it's just because I'm an amateur but it seems like its ideal for games where most things are in fact objects
>>571656296>>571664628>>571664569I only pay $20 with Codex, and I basically can't seem to use up the tokens. And I'm using it really intensively.I think the key is to structure the code well and give it specific instructions about what you want and need at that moment.I feel like the people talking about Claude are really getting carried away and are asking an AI to do way too much just to impress the public.
>>571668382>CAPTURA DE PANTALLA 2026
>>571668296no idea. it's how i program. it just werks.
>>571668296>maybe it's just because I'm an amateurYeah. ECS really is that much better. Not just for performance but also avoid spaghetti code. Composition is logical for game entities/objects.Doing stupid shit like having an Enemy class or even worse a Boss class that inherits from some other generic shit doesn't actually help you it just makes things worse down the line.
>>571668296>apparently unreal engine is going to drop itBullshit. Best case scenario their new scripting language is more component driven, but their engine is way too old and full of legacy bullshit to completely drop OOP under the hood. Unless they're really grinding on their Claude usage. To answer your question, people hate the bloat from polymorphism and deep inheritance, not necessarily the act of treating code like a collection of objects.
>>571668296People are just really vulnerable to trends and memes and repeating things. A few people like Jonathan Blow hate it (for nonsense reasons, especially if you use his Jai abortion) and people just start repeating it and it snowballs.
Why is Branno the only dev Youtuber around here? That sounds like free money.
>>571668382>asking an AI to do way too much just to impress the public.not my fault I was given god-tier creativity that pushes AI to its limits
>>571668481exactly, it just makes intuitive sense for a game to work that way. but perhaps I just don't understand the alternative enough to see how it wouldn't be a pain in the ass
>>571668519They are dropping the actor concept and going full ECS, yes. >>571668547Its not a trend anon.
>>571668296https://youtu.be/04ksL1hf_p8
if anything, Epic is incredibly late to the ECS thing they should have done it with version 5 or even 4
>>571668667It is, nobody was even talking about it a few years ago, then it's suddenly everywhere. If you said "object oriented bad" in 2016 people would piss on your face. And they'd be right to do it.
>>571668667>going full ECS, yes. What the fuck. I'm not complaining but that might be the biggest fundamental change the engine has ever seen. Like, even Unreal Engine 5 is still recognizable as the same engine from 1999 but with more features.
>>571668818ECS isn't as common as you think. Even Unity's implementation is half-assed. Most AAA engines only have Data-Oriented-Design in hot paths like rendering or physics at best. Unreal Engine might actually be the first to force peoples' hands on it.
>>571667646bro thinks he can get rid of kanna that easily
>>571668849its been around for agesif you think Blow came up with this shit its actually your own brain that is susceptible to trendsif anything, OOP is the trend that is finally dying
>>571668512why is having an enemy class stupid? there's going to be code that is specific to enemies. so you put that in the enemy class. then you can either use that class directly, or if you need a specific type of enemy to have specific behaviour, you make a class that inherits from the enemy class.>>571668519according to thishttps://www.unrealengine.com/news/the-road-to-ue-6actors will be deprecated in UE6>To answer your question, people hate the bloat from polymorphism and deep inheritance, not necessarily the act of treating code like a collection of objects.maybe I just don't understand the subject enough then, because what is polymorphism?I can see how deep inheritance could be annoying if you have to constantly go back through parent classes to find a certain piece of code, but what is the alternative? just having one gigantic class that contains all the code for everything or something?
>>571669238>there's going to be code that is specific to enemies. so you put that in the enemy class.man you have to get out of this thinking ASAP it will hold back your skills so much
>>571669184>its been aroundAs a fringe retard thing, not the way it is now.
>>571669365Yeah Thief is some fringe retard project. Clearly they had no idea what they were doing.
>>571669238>but what is the alternative?Composition. Which is basically what UE4 and UE5 were doing, but in a weird hybrid way where core logic lived in the actors while components handled data.Sounds like UE6 is going full ECS, which is an extreme version of this. Entities don't even strictly live as objects anymore, they're just an index shared across multiple component lists. This is mostly done for performance but it's also good for maximum separation of concerns, because in true ECS, components don't handle logic anymore, they just handle data, and systems can act upon multiple components which makes it easy to add new gameplay features.
>>571669493>thief did something that means it was a broad trend throughout programming brought up constantly like it is nowYou're the sort of retard I was describing, devoid of critical thinking and unable to follow a conversation.
>>571669683Yeah? Well I think you only have a strong aversion to it because you saw some JBlow video on it. Reactionary.
>>571669359how do I get out of it? and please god don't link some corpospeak shit about how data oriented design optimizes for synergy and helps you build a more robust and dynamical codebase with superior execution and extensibility that will enable you to deliver a more complete and faster experience to your clients
>>571669775>Well I think [something baseless and retarded]No kidding
>>571669789If that's your stance you will have to suffer through the consequences of OOP until you have some sort of eureka moment. Nothing wrong with that really, some learn best that way.
>>571669656so where do you put the logic? does it all go into one giant "system" class?
>>571670047systems are not classes, they are stateless
>>571669939my stance is that i want an actual concrete explanation of the differences and what it means for developing with unreal going forward, rather than a bunch of platitudes about how DOD is better than OOP because of some vague reasons that probably don't even apply in my case. since the latter seems to be the majority of "OOP vs DOD" explanations.
>>571670047>GravitySystem>Find all physics bodies>decrease their y by 5 on every fixed frame>PlayerMovementSystem>find an entity with a player component and a physics body>move it according input keysNotice how gravity is something that we can basically turn on and off for free.
>>571670272I don't think there is anything anyone could say to you that would change your mind.
>>571670156that doesn't really answer my question. where does the logic go? does it all go in one place or can you still break it up based on the context of what the logic is doing (as in, have the logic for an enemy character in a different cpp file than the logic for a vehicle)?
>>571670379thank you, that actually makes sense. so the entities are just containers for data (like position, etc), basically?>>571670431I think you just don't want to, or can't, actually explain how it works
What are The Same 4 Games?
>>571668296OOP is about the least performant way to organize your data. That said, it doesn't matter much, since you can always mix in data-driven approaches for bottlenecks (e.g. flyweight pattern).>>571668512>Composition is logical for game entities/objects.That's... not at all exclusive to DOD. Drop the S and you'll get component-based architecture, which is what standard Unity actually expects you to use. Unity is quite literally built on this approach.Hell, you don't even have to get rid of systems, all you have to do is keep entities and components as objects.Unless you really need that performance boost, you can get all the benefits of ECS without any of its drawbacks by sticking to OOP.
>>571670773Yeah, basically. Might help to actually see it in action.https://github.com/UnityTechnologies/SpaceShooterECS/tree/master/SpaceShooterECS_Project/Assets/Scripts
>>571670773Yeah no shit I don't want to. I've done it countless times and every single time the person in question goes right back to OOP. Its your game, you can code it however you like.It really doesn't fucking matter anyway because if you really want to learn to code well these days you need to be using AI. And 99.9% of the time AI will recommend ECS, and for damn good reason.

In fact, if you're excited about ECS, let me just give you a reality check on all the bullshit you're going to face.>you absolutely need to use a framework that has specialized debugging tools for ECS, since debugging tools designed for OOP are useless for ECS.>since all systems are independent of each other, it's difficult to stack trace why a variable (that is being groped by 5+ systems) is changed >events are hacky in that they're just entities with 1 specialized component>systems have to follow a specific order especially to avoid breaking events (unless you create an ugly event buffer)>systems aren't supposed to talk to each other, so for interactions you have to create "command entities" which are basically event entities but even less elegant.>every little feature comes with tedious overhead>any work related to guiYou can still use it, but people never seem to talk about all the boilerplate and awkward solutions that you have to put up with.
>>571673572apparently the actual world is pretty brutal which could make for an interesting concept, but i've no idea how you get the interesting game part.

>>571674758Because they're being judged by a low quality person - (You)
>>571675016>youIt's not really a me specific problem, the entire 'C' part of ECS fundamentally turns entities dynamically typed because that's the entire point of attaching components to generic blobs for functionality. The paradigm is at odds with statically typed languages. That's why you get rid of the 'C', and just have less granular Entity families you then specialize, to not lose static typing

hey its me the guy who has been posting that multiplayer 2d space game that looks like shit rn despite having great flexible code. this is my progress on the reusable "Creator UI" (its like crafting but we dont call it that because you can create things that arent "crafts" such as abilities and even character bodies like androids and mutants or zombies). it doenst look like much because there's not a lot of stats or traits or other stuff to choose from, aka not much variety, but its capability behind the scenes is high and flexible, everything you can create uses one underlying system whether it is weapons, abilities, characters, ships, etc. anyway i forgot what i was going to say so i guess thats it.
>>571677369

i know why modern gaming and modern music sucks. it's the lack of identity and fantasy. it's too much about technicalities like gamedesign theory (or in music all those "tricks to make the perfect song" on youtube).i didn't play skyrim to find the best meta, i played it to larp as a cat thief.ofc competitive games are their own universe, but everything else lives from the fantasy.and i think part of the problem is wokeness. basically western men are too afraid to make games equivalent to the animes chobits or dears.nobody wants to play a censored fantasy that feels like real life or even worse than real life.
It took me like 75% of my 5 hour pro extended gemini usage to make enemies properly swarm me. lmao.

>>571697218i just asked chatgpt fo free
>>571697064Correct, the modern internet of modern social networking has killed and ruined the creatives because it's all about tricks, how to do something as fast and quick as possible, and how to maximize profitability. Things pretty much all endemic to creativity. I can ignore it with most things but I the "meta" when it comes to competitive gaming has always made me want to shoot the other person talking about it in their face. I fucking hate meta players. I don't care if doing whatever point system and gear .1% bonus I get. I want to have FUN. I do what seems cool and fun and always will.

it's weird when you try to just get good at something, without trying to make money. cause the internet constantly tells me lore like "it's easier than ever to become good at something, everybody is good, even if you are the best it's hard to make money".basically along the lines of "it became braindead easy to become good, but very hard to make money".but when you truly just want to become good, without caring about money, you realize that nobody really has any sufficient answers. actually a lot of times old books have even more information and better information than all the youtube, udemy courses and forums and articles etc. combined.actually e.g. drawing has been mastered long ago. actually a lot of artists from 100 years ago were better than modern artists.ofc what old books can't teach you is how to use a piece of software. but using a tool doesn't mean you can automatically make something good with it.i actually believe making something good will never become easier. because i think it's about daily consistent exposure to something. the brain doesn't learn purely via information, it needs to be "shaped". it needs to store associations, form connections, learn to see patterns etc. - this cannot be downloaded via reading text. this is a slow progress, like training an ai.i don't think we will ever have "better education". the real effort is over a decade worth of daily exposure to a topic/problem, so your brain can take shape and develop a pattern recognition/intelligence for that specific topic. "better information" is just not how the brain learns/functions.

I've made 17 commits to my repo since the initial commit on June 10th. The core gameplay loop is officially complete and restored better and beyond the old project was a year ago. I can now officially build and expand on the new systems and elements of the game and share progress again. I thought I would by now but I'm honestly kind of addicted to ironing out bugs and other things I experienced while I was building up the foundation and really didn't want to stop and sit there and build a tilemaplayer and shit when it wasn't necessary. I will now take a break from coding (regrettably since I hate not using 100% usage) and import the required sprites and build scenes for every object and such to exist on the tilemap and make it so I can show off progress for people here. Hate that I'm basically a week behind schedule on sharing but it seems any time I hit a wall it was almost guaranteed to be a night of trouble shooting for 5-10+ hours until it worked exactly like I wanted it to.

>>571711713Nah he makes games, they're just fucking pathetic.
Why are Indians so far ahead in AI acceptance than whites? No wonder India is becoming a video game development powerhouse.
>>571711838why doesn't he post any then?anon fagtroon is a mentally ill nodev, why do you think he's spamming AI shit so much? because he literally has nothing esle, he's larping, there is no game.
Would it be gay to make a game marketed towards gays and trannies?
>>571711838>makes gameswhat games?

>>571712242dite*
>>571712103>>571712175The heaps of shit on his itch.io. They look like the passion projects of a retarded child. His username is NRasko if you want to subject yourself to the cringe.
Hi Nikolay, you ugly brown manlet mutt that can't make games lmao.
Why do we hate CHADgoon again? His games may not be AAA, but they look like they were made by professional game developers.
>>571712391lmao because you're mentally ill schizo fagtroon and your games look like fucking trash bitchkill yourself :)
>>571712456Ok joshua
>>571712391Because we who oppose him are all extreme gay faggot homosexuals!
>>571712391He's like 5ft tall, looks like a /pol/ caricature of a mexican child rapist, he has zero talent, he's brown, he has delusions of grandeur and is a mentally ill freak and a waste of spinal fluid that single handedly ruined aggy daggy on /vg/. Other than that he seems okay I guess.
>>571712652but emperor CHADgoon has a game, do you?
I invested 2 weeks to get good in Gimp and Inkscape (at least as good as I am in Photoshop and Illustrator). Now I can work on any computer, any OS and any VM
>>571712391For spamming AI CP into threads and completely ruining this place over people not liking him. Also, he has no games and has never actually released a full complete game. He's a faggot.
>>571712905Yeah, I post proggy on the real thread. Not your shitty AI schizo threads nikolay. No one is jealous of your failed "games" retard. There are plenty of yesdevs that have great games. If we were gonna get jealous, we'd get jealous of those. Not your products of a clearly child-like mind that is completely devoid of artistic creativity.
>>571713137He is currently using AI to create Frydarian kino. His dream game isn't out yet.
>>571713240who is this semen demon?
>>571712905>hey this dude shits himself everywhere he goes and stinks up the place for everyone>but he uhhhh, made a really shitty painting a few times so it's okay!fuck off nigger, kill yourself as soon as possible
>>571713304Sounds like President CHADgoon made you feel jealous.
>>571713245AI assets will be slightly less shit than his own, to be fair.
>>571713354sounds like you need to kill yourself fagtroonalso this will be my last post addressing you, since you're literally mentally ill and any attempt at acknowledging that you exist just fuels your retarded mental illness even more
>>571713437>will be my last post addressing youWe all know you crave gooncock, you can't resist it.
>>571713245That'd be a step up from what he actually could do so I doubt it.
