The changes to the vocation system are great but just about everything else ranges from middling to kind of awful. If they hadn't casualized the hell out of it I'd say it's still kind of worth going though if you like VII. Maybe it's enjoyable with mods to remove the endless free heals.

Graphics are great
Class system changes are good albeit a little half assed (removed the "fight X battles" but battles all award the exact same amount of class exp so its basically the same thing)
I can handle content being cut, but what is in the game is incredibly half assed.
99% of cutscenes have as much animation in them as the fucking PS1 game, all the way down to being too lazy to even have Maribel's father grab her arm and pull her out of the throne room, nope instead she walks behind him while complaining that he's physically grabbing her and dragging her out.
Script is just copy/pasted word for word from 3DS and not revised at all to account for the changed enemies/characters.

Shit's a fucking travesty, I was so excited for it before it came out, but it genuinely just gets worse and lazier the further you get in.

Very disappointed, dropped the game. The cuts to the party chat are egregious and it's been streamlined so much it just feels like a chore at times. I like the adjustments to battles and classes more or less but the game itself doesn't have enough challenge or interest to use the systems more. Parts of the game feel like they were really trying to, for better or worse, make a flashy version of DQ7 to entice newcomers but other parts feel extremely cheap and like a budget game. I used machine translation so can't say I'm getting the full picture but this interview makes it sound like there were management issues with this game too:

there's really nothing to speculate really, there's one specific team at SE that specifically works on HD2D games
also, we also know the devs for the other games, even for stuff like VII reimagined, so i'd say it's only natural that the devs that did all HD2D games so far would be the ones also working on an eventual IV to VI trilogy (if it was HD2D, which imo is not that certain)

It's reasonably likely, especially with DQM4 tying into V and XII's theme being suspiciously similar to VI. I&II also added an unusually high number of enemies from IV and VI that they'd be able to reuse if they kept doing HD-2D.
At the end of the day you can accumulate all the evidence you want and still get blindsided by a random project like VII Reimagined, though. You never know.
