No disappointment that an individual chapter is a bit underwhelming compared to what our minds imagined.When we know the ending, the journey becomes a lot more fun, right?I've gotten in the habit of imagining what Undertale would be like if it released in chapters past the Ruins demo. What would be theorized, and what would be a point of disappointment. The snowman piece is an obvious one. No one would expect it to lead to one single line in the neutral ending, and nothing else. Mysterious characters like the evil murderous Asgore, or the kind and beloved King Dreemurr would be an endless well of debate. How disappointed would people be that Flowey isn't an ever present threat constantly popping in to critique our saves and reloads, or to just try and fight us each chapter. Imagine the unsatisfying payoff when we only learn the story of one single human, and not the other six that fell in before us. Imagine how unsatisfying it would be if you waited for the followup to Waterfall with it's serene atmosphere and heavy story of war and sacrifice, was a silly robot who runs a bunch of TV shows while some crazy anxious nerd won't stop texting you. Oh and don't forget, the nerd is also in gay love with the fish, and one of the spare minigames is to set up a gay couple together. Hope that doesn't put a damper on some people's enjoyment.Man, this chapter format was a big misstep, but I doubt we'd get the game we have if it wasn't for it. Asgore has a whole speech about how his relationship failed due to his obsessions with the dark world when he should have been focusing on his family in the real world, and this is Toby's favorite kind of foreshadowing, having events mirror future events directly. Contrast that to Noelle, who got a phone call that her father, who already was sickly, is now also seriously hurt. Noelle has a real life and real people to care about. Susie is planning to tell her to leave that behind to live in play-pretend castle and fight evil monsters in adventure world with her, and that shit is not going to go over well. I'm even betting it's the reason why Weird Route can't exist in CH6, Noelle has to be in an emotional state to stand her ground and stay in reality instead of join Susie in copeland.

>>571799652There are a lot of times when people come up with theories based on wishful thinking, but in this situation I think it's the only way you can really read things that makes sense story-wise. They go out of the way to have Susie acknowledge that this was "our thing" and that Kris thinks it's better if it stays that way, they have her say they need someone that can fight and help them, and she says they need to pick noelle of all people. she's got an awkward smile the whole time, and the framing of the scene is that she's only "at home" in her fantasy world now, literally.Devoting the credits scenes to Susie literally setting up "Welcome Noelle" banners and shit instead of just having them surprise Noelle and the player with it as a cool new set piece in Ch6 for the castle? Stories only do things like that when it's because those banners will NOT be used in a happy moment. Especially combined with Toby's comments before CH5, about this being 1 last fun adventure before the sun sets. CH6 and CH7 will not be wacky fun lesbian adventures, we're getting back to Titans and serious reveals. CH5 was the sendoff to fanwank shipping shit before the finale arc, and at most we'll have some romantic scenes in the "tour the town you saved" scene after CH7 plot ends.

Directly after this they even have the spa scene specifically so Ralsei can say "I don't know what you're doing, you're doing fucked up shit and I know it but I'll trust you have good in mind and won't ask you about it". They are very clearly NOT working together, Ralsei just trusts Kris has a plan he can't tell Ralsei.

I really hope that Noelle being included ruins everything, and I don't mean that in a petty way, I just think the story needs that conflict otherwise it's just lesbo cute moments and that's not a story. Save it for the epilogue, Noelle needs to ruin shit.
