Damn, Silver feels so bad right now. I struggle to do everything with her after the nerfs. It's difficult to get her ult, it pops at the wrong time and goes on a huge cooldown.

Well I did it lads
After a prolonged series of ups and mostly downs I got my all hero challenge done, three wins on every hero
I started calibrated at ritualist 1 and ate so much shit I'm down to alchemist 1

Notable heroes:
Lady Geist caused me way more problems than I expected
Paradox surprised me with how easy her gun was to use
Dynamo was not nearly as trivial as I had expected
Haze made me realize how fundamentally shit I was
Grey Talon was bafflingly easy and I am scared of his popularity after he gets a new model
Yamato was probably the most surprisingly fun, mainly due to her hookshot
Lash was incredibly hard to win with, even though he was also fun
Pocket was way easier than I expected him, I basically never died past lane
Holliday was the most initially confusing before I wrapped my head around how she was meant to play
Calico was unexpectedly fun regardless of my competence
Sinclair is the worst designed hero in the fucking game holy shit
Victor was somehow way harder than I expected him to be
Silver I expected to be hard, but still surprised me by how weak she actually was
Venator was my backup who ended up becoming my pseudo main
Apollo was the most dissonant where I felt like I was doing better than my stats reflected

I don't know what I'll do now, maybe buckle down and learn Haze now that I'm in a bracket low enough that fucking up won't be horribly critical and I can learn the fundamentals of tempo control and farming

I started having more fun with this game when I completely change my perspective.

This game is now a single player souls like, where you pretend your team doesn't exist and your only goal is to kill the walker. Sometimes spooky enemies invade your world and try to kill you, but you just go "oh shit" and do what you can. When Walker dies, change lanes and repeat. Sometimes you get to see phantoms of other players when you move around the map, which is cool because it makes you feel like you're not just in a single player world

If you give people the ability to choose their lanes at the start of the game, then essentially your "balance" problem is to take 12 "random" heroes and sort them into two teams of 6 in a way that has the closest win probability to 50/50

That sounds difficult until you realize how mechanically braindead it is

First you collect moving averages of win rates for every hero both with and against every other hero
Sounds like a lot of data, but it's basically just a crude 3-dimensional array. Doing basic bitch math the total memory cost for such an array is less than 50kb in size for the current 38 heroes. If you had 100 heroes, the same array would be around 300kb. It's fucking nothing in terms of data.

Next, you consider: how many different ways of splitting the teams are there? That's easy: 12 choose 6 is 924. What does that mean?

Take a team configuration. Sum and average the win rates according to the team/enemy matchups. The closer the resulting winrate is to 50%, the more "balanced" the team comp is.

Do this for all 924 possible configurations, and then pick whichever one has a winrate closest to 50%. It sounds like a lot of number crunching, but considering the winrate lookups only have to be done once, the actual calculations could trivially fit in L1 cache, which means you could probably blast through every possible configuration in a tiny fraction of a second.

There, you now have numerically balanced teams from now until the end of time, and you never had to ask anyone how good of a frontliner Paige is.
