The issue is Toby just deciding that people need a breather from the tone he set with 4 and just sidelining all the tension the knight snatching people is causing for the festival and this dark world. This chapter, when played start to finish once the game is finished will be solid, maybe a bit out of left field, but it'll be fine cause you're not left waiting another year for the meat again after getting baited with tofu. But that's how he's releasing the game, it's episodic, you can't just tone jerk people when they've gotta wait a year for the next bite. THAT is why in the moment I hate the chapter's normal route (and the Normal route is 99% of the content that took a year to make) but looking back will be much less offensive.

It was a mistake for the light world and dark world segments to both be "frivolous". The whole chapter wound up feeling like a waste of time. One of them needed to be more important to the ongoing plot.Big part of why people love Side B so much is something big and irreversible happened.
