Holy fuck dude this chapter kicked my ass. I didn't game over often but I also don't remember getting hit anywhere near this much on 1-4. Dunno if it's just the difficulty increasing as the game goes on or if I'm getting old. Or maybe the soul is too slow because I did pretty well on the platformer segments. I also gave up on the secret boss after a couple tries because I figured, I'm gonna have plenty of time to do this with how many years it'll be before the next chapter comes out, may as well finish the game first since it'll be easier and come back later. And then Flower Man was surprisingly tough too. I mean I still beat him on the second try, but barely. Glad I correctly deduced there wouldn't be any save points afterwards so I could freely use my items.The chapter itself was awesome I thought. I was a bit worried at the start because the NPC dialogue was getting too memey for my tastes, like something about it felt unnatural compared to the previous chapters, but then I enjoyed a lot of the Festival scenes a lot so I thought I was just being paranoid, but then I got worried again when the first area was like a reskinned Field. And it was still fun but I think it took till the first fight with Aqua for it to really click for me and then I had a great time the rest of the chapter. I'm sure I'll enjoy it even more on a replay knowing how much I like it as a whole. So yeah, I'm pretty satisfied, I hope this doesn't become the ASoIaF of video games and the rest of the game becomes vaporware after 5/7 chapters, but even if it does, what a fantastic 5 chapters they were.

What if trying to stay in the dark world forever is what caused Dess to disappear?

Idk if this was brought up or not, but since Aqua is a clear parallel to younger Kris, this part of ch5 raises interesting thoughts for me. Kris certainly had a cyan soul before the "incident", and the way how Aqua is splashing around in the water is parallel to the lake's shore in Hometown. Aqua turned red here, splashing around. Aqua represents young Kris. Kris was drowning or DID drown in the lake while either playing with Dess or Dess not paying enough attention. Kris drowns, Dess panics and creates a Dark World in an effort to bring Kris back to life. Things go further tits up, Kris is brought back to life with the red SOUL, Dess having to make a deal with FRIEND/Gaster. Kris completely changes with the new SOUL, and becomes a pawn in whatever conspiracy grips Hometown. We, the player/Angel, awaken within Kris when the prophecy gets kickstarted. Kris is a literal corpse that's only being kept alive by us, their body was literally rotting within hours between the time of ch4 and ch5.
