People keep wondering why Seth is obsessed with Berdly, but the flowers have been around since Asgore and Toriel's wedding day. He didn't even have Flower King until after the INCIDENT. The flowers were presumably kept in the Dreemurr house somewhere and we know that Kris and Berdly played games together sometimes, so that's how Seth knows him. He may have even gotten sick from whatever dark experiments are going on in the bunker.In reality, we just don't have enough information about the Knight to really have a concrete answer, but from a character motivation point, I think Rudy Knight makes the most sense. We don't really know anything about any of the other characters motivations to understand why they would want to make dark worlds and fountains, and usually the correct answer is simplest one.

Hometown is a prison and the sjelter is the only place that's free. The sjelter code symbols represent the prison boundaries: trees, police tape, and DELTARUNE, both the prophecy and the game/device. The sjelter has a way to break through the last boundary and go free, but you can't bruteforce it. The lake skip gets you there a little early, but you still need to get through the parent/guardian locks. The Knight is playing the role of the Knight as prophesized, but its personal goal is to break through the locks so it doesn't have to be part of the prophecy/game anymore. This motive works for basically any Knight identity you can think of and ties into the meta themes.
