Saintontas said it best, Wuwa changed the gacha meta for players' goodwill. If you can't earn players' goodwill in the first few patches or you fumble it (doesn't adress the glaring issues that the game has), it's mos likely your game will fail in the long ru. Games like ZZZ and Genshin, even Encfield, can get afloat because of their IPs backing them. But other games without that, like NTE, Promilia, Ananta, Silver Palace, etc, they're most likely DoA if they don't get it in their first few patches.

Probably the biggest Arknights thing they need to do is put more future operators in NPC jail. At the moment, we have... Arcane. If you squint a lot, maybe Summit and Ah Zai? I think everyone else I can think of has a non-unique NPC model. And let's be real, neither Summit nor Ah Zai are future operators, they're just the only ones who could THEORETICALLY be operators.It's hard to be hyped for characters that haven't been introduced yet - even if they're pretty damned cool like Camille. You need a period of time to get attached to them first.
