I've seen it stated how GV, Quinn, Joule, and several other characters are boomer anime characters who clash with the more "modern" personality types. This is especially prevalent when critiquing the heroines for their passive, stay-in-the-kitchen mentality and roles compared to the exciting bad girls. However, watch some 90s anime, and you'll notice that the zany badass personalities of those bad girls are represented in female characters well enough outside the shōnen genre. Somebody with Ryoko's personality would easily slot into Gunvolt as a female adept antagonist, for instance.It's more accurate to say that there's a clash from GV and the good guys being inspired from more somber anime like Locke and Gundam, while the bad guys are spun from a more eclectic pool.
