Considering that Deltarune is about exploring dreamscapes, the shadow crystals are a reification of broken dreams, the forgotten man is some kind of repressed trauma, darkness represents creativity and fantasy/the waters of primal creation, it's safe to say Deltarune is a pretty strongly "psychological" game. It's like we're going through Kris' subconscious and either bringing a deep violent urge out of them, or sort of "baptizing" their imagination through consistent peaceful action. The eggs, shadow crystals, all of it is about who Kris is as a person and what happened to them.
