Then you can do another BG3 run and get all the references, meet old friends and foes and witness people talk about adventures you actually lived through. What makes the dip into the actual class worthwhile is Expertise (double Proficiency bonus of the selected skills) but I wouldn't stop before level 3 as Thief is one of the most popular and universally useful dip with it's ExtraBonus Action. So the only question is who benefits the most from it in your party. I can tell it was god-sent for my Berserker Karlach except I was playing an exclusive throwing build based on that subclass, so if you're playing a traditional Barbarian you unlikely to get as much out of it as I did.

There are 4 options that gives you +10 with him in the entire game and two is locked behind his romance or you playing as a specific Origin. The other two is letting him drink from your neck without hesitation and letting him kill Gandrel (which of course affects his fate down the road). Which sucks as you'll have at least one decision during his companion quest at late Act2 that can nuke his approval if it's not done in his way, even if you can bail yourself out with a skill check so Astarion doesn't outright leaves your company.I have two advises for you: one, talk to him on the regular (this applies to every companion btw - going a round before each Long Rest is not a bad idea) and adapt a sympathetic and understanding approach towards his issues; and two, don't feature him in your regular party unless there's a good reason for that. (Typically some connections with the place of unique interactions with the NPCs there. It's easy to miss most of these on your first run unless you specifically look them up but this is what subsequent runs are for.) The first let's you slowly stack Approval and get to know him much better, the latter saves you from the quickly pilling up Disapproval points everywhere. Astarion is not mustache-twirling evil but the grey/fun options he also loves are too few to counterbalance his constant eye-rolling.

I think that John tried to make her appear as femme fatale by making her talk about her rowdy sexual past which is supposed to empower her but all it did was show how much of a victim she actually is, she's clinging on the stupidest sharran dogma and the game let you call her out on it, why does she keep the shadowheart name? Why does she feel like it's ok to flirt with Halsin while she's dating someone else, why does she think that there's nothing wrong with a couple banging hookers together? Why does she think that knowing how to manipulate people is something to be proud of? The game lays out all of these things but doesn't let the player talk about her warped view on sex and relationships while you can do that throughout the 3 arcs with Astarion, she genuinely feels incoherent as a character.

IIRC, Karlach and Laezel are pretty casual about you sleeping with other people in Act 1, but you can lock yourself out by Act 2. The Tiefling Party is when you're sort of "locked in" to a specific romance.
