Early on you don't really have much choice when it comes to guns, ideally you wanna avoid combat with other players because you will absolutely be outgeared and outgunned. Just stick with something like an AKS-74U from Prapor, 5.45 ammo is pretty much everywhere, try to run the highest penetration ammo you can find for it (with the possible exception of PPBS Igolnik, the damage is very low).
Helmets will save you like 1% of the time, but you will be glad when they do, I'd rather die 99 times and survive once than die 100 times.

Any tips of pvp in woods? I treat the spawns as triplets ~10 pmc / 30 spawns for spawn occlusion purposes. I've been sprinting full tilt at nearby spawn sets but I've only managed to get someone like 1/10ths of the time? I rip around pretty quick like 30 second and I've cleared both nearby spawns I can't imagine every one going full tilt everywhere that I can't catch them?

It's funny because Grey Zone does have scope restrictions when wearing NVGs in that game, it's been a minute since I've played but pretty much every 2x and up scope is just completely imperceptible to see through and you can only really use red dots if they are compatible.

press V to open the input menu, then a further 1-3 keys to navigate submenus to the message you want
the import thing is
1. it only needs a single global keybind to open the menu and take input focus, so navigation within the menu can be done with easily reachable WASD-adjacent keys instead of requiring a separate always active for each line that then can't be used for other functions (ie trkov's f1-fwhatever "quick" phrases)
2. grouping things together in categories so you can access any message from keys that are already under your hand, pressing V + 2-3 keys that are already under your hand is much faster than press V + some random fuckass key on the other side of the keyboard
3. does not require any mouse input (or looking at a menu once you memorize the sequence for a given message,, and until then only requires a small menu showing the available options that doesn't block your view while it's open) so it can be done very quickly without interrupting gameplay, unlike the t*rkov menu which not only requires very slow and careful mouse movement since it's horrible organized but also blocks your entire screen AND prevents movement while it's open despite not even accepting keyboard navigation
