Dramashitting is not on topic. I love Tails' story in Sonic Adventure, it's great how it builds up on his character and his gameplay role in the games up to that point. I also really like his song and voice acting. I love that he builds planes. And his gameplay is fun too, especially Speed Highway. The Rhythm Badge and the upgrade that makes him fly longer make the gameplay even more enjoyable, it feels very fluid to fly as him in that game. I wish he had more stages

On top of that, due to being weird and getting bullied for it, his environment also did not encourage him to think highly of himself. However, Tails is capable and can bring himself to rise up to the occasion when needed. No matter how big his achievements are he is not naturally inclined to value them accurately if at all. In English Sonic tells Tails that he's still just a kid and that he needs to grow up, and Tails concludes that means he needs to go on an adventure of his own to gain a new identity away from Sonic. The Japanese script kept the setup of Tails doubting himself and Sonic reassuring him, but changed the conclusion to Sonic reminding Tails who he is, not telling him to grow up. Instead of talking down on him, Sonic tells Tails that he admires him, and this reminds Tails of who he is and that there are things only he can do, and that his contributions matter. Tails concludes by saying that he will continue to use his skills and do his best. I prefer the Japanese version because it's not trying to change the character. Tails doubts himself, and what reassures him is remembering who he is and what he's good at. The English version implies there is something fundamentally wrong with Tails that he needs to change, and I do not like that at all. Tails doesn't need this set up to go on solo adventures, as he had already been doing it long before Frontiers and even before meeting Sonic

English Frontiers does the same thing with Amy and Knuckles too. Amy's character is defined by loving Sonic and helping people, English Frontiers presents this as a problem, and concludes that she has to stop focusing on Sonic and work on spreading her love around the world instead, whatever that means. Knuckles is defined by guarding the Master Emerald, English Frontiers concludes that he needs to change by going on solo adventures more. Even though he already goes on adventures without guarding the Master Emerald all the time. Japanese Frontiers fixes both of those problems. Amy's self doubt is solved by her focusing on gaining Sonic's love even more. Knuckles' self doubt is solved by him focusing on the Master Emerald and the Echidnas. Tails' self doubt is solved by remembering that he can help in his own way and that Sonic relies on him too
