Normal route will probably have a non-ending that doesn't resolve anything like neutral in UT but without even the phone call epilogue, so it can't be considered a real ending. Normal route+optional content like shadow crystals and weird route will both lead to the true ending, with weird route acting as a shortcut that adds a negative tone to the otherwise happy-or-bittersweet ending. Like eating the snowman piece in front of the Snowman in TP, but more severe. There, your choices matter but there's still only one ending.
