Companies that know there's competition on the horizon will implement negative changes early to "prep" their userbase and force them to make a mental decision. It's basically a loyalty test for more committed users, in this case it's whales and anyone who pays enough. If you accept the changes then you fall further into sunk cost and will be less likely to permanently switch to a different game. If you're still unhappy a year from now and switch games or play less BA, you don't matter anyway because you're probably a low spender or F2P. Obviously whales and most dedicated fans are the ones they care most about. There is no upside to this and there will likely be more changes coming to appeal to a broader audience to ensure BA still has relevancy as it gets older and faces more competition.
