Honestly, Amy's mysticism feels more unified with her core character concept than Tails is with his tinkering.Amy is a fortune teller whose card reading led her to a destined encounter with Sonic, which was love at first sight, and now she believes they are destined lovers bound by the red string of fate. That is one holistic character concept that explains her background, personality, motivation, etc., all at once. But Tails' entire character is split down the middle. He's a kid who was a bullied for having two tails until he was inspired by the sight of Sonic running by, and he thought Sonic was so cool, so he started following Sonic around out of a desire to be cool, too. Through Sonic, he learned to see his two tails as a sign of vitality, and over time he grows to believe in himself and become someone Sonic can rely on. ....And _also_, Tails loves tinkering with technology and has invented many things, he was captivated by the sight of Sonic's Tornado and has made upgrades to it over time, and his skill even rivals Eggman but he has yet to reach his true potential. These two sides do not feel unified. Tails' technology has virtually nothing to do with his backstory or his motivations or anything. The first thing about him is being a kid who can fly fast enough to keep up with Sonic, and the thing that allows him to do this is what he was bullied and ostracized for in the past so its his main source of insecurity and self-esteem. The fact he likes tinkering with technology and pilots Sonic's plane honestly feels entirely separate from that whole narrative and concept, even though its just as integral to who Tails is as a character in general. It makes me kinda wish Nine's backstory was just part of Tails' original backstory as well, so there could be better unification between Tails' flying side and his tinkering side in a way that enhances each other without the massive divide between his SA1 and SA2 gameplay styles.

But Tails went from racing against Sonic with his flying ability to relying solely on a mech in one game to then eventually sitting on the sidelines only helping through the Miles Electric or exposition or whatever else, alone. Like Sonic & The Black Knight puts Tails and Amy in relatively equal positions functionally, regardless of Nimue having way more screen time. But the difference is that the role Nimue plays feels natural for Amy's character, while the Blacksmith role for Tails feels completely reductive and destroys like 99% of who he is as a character just to focus purely on the fact that he's a tinkerer. The character that was introduced to be Player 2 going through the whole adventure by Sonic's side, reduced to just a blacksmith who appears only once.

Amy Rose has always shown weird ass powers in Sonic X, Battle, 06 and etc.But they were shown without explanation. They were abstract and came out of nowhere and that was part of the joke. Amy, being a regular girls, can do crazy things at moments and you will ask yourself "wtf was that???"And while I don't mind Tarot Cards as part of the character, they imo make Amy's magic side too grounded.

Tails has it better than other P2s because he was made to follow Sonic and cover some of his weakspots (eg.flying) but P2s in general aren't remembered nearly well as P1s. IRONICALLY, I think switching Tails and Rosy at birth so that the latter was P2 while the former was extended cast would've resulted in better writing for both characters in the long run, but hindsight is 20-20.

He's meant to be the kid that follows the cool mentor figure, before breaking out into his own and realizing his own potential. That's why one of his inspirations is Kid Gohan, and what his SA1 story was about. The problem is that after SA1, this is never truly followed up on, and he's always relegated to just following or assisting Sonic without any real focus or development on his own. Which is what directly feeds into the "tech support" role as his tech side becomes the dominant trait and everything he ever did is put on the back-burner, which leads to being written like how he is in Forces only for everyone playing to see the blatant discrepancy.
