Siralim is clearly too autistic for you, but if you "don't understand the appeal", then I might recommend Unicorn Overlord. Think of FFX or how basic the combat is during the Midgar portion of FFVII. So far, we met Djidane and the Tantalas, we met with Vivi and Puck, we got a peek at Steiner, but we also got to meet the two jesters, so that's really a lot of characters.And according to the timestamp on the savefile, that's all in less than 30 minutes.Final Fantasy always dump you in media res, but while FFVII starts quickly with a dungeon (the Shinra reactor) and FFVIII start slowly with an introduction, FFIX put all its effort in its story, so, so far, I was introduced to half my playable party, but I only got to fight twice, and these two fights were just pretend fights against Maskedefer and the King Lear.No wonder modern audiences with ADHD hate this game, it takes its sweet time to settle itself.
And one more thing.The music is strange. As far as I can remember, music in Final Fantasy is most of the time tied to a place. You walk in the Shinra Reactor, you have the music for the Shinra Reactor playing. You walk around the Balamb University, you get the Balamb University theme playing.In FFIX, it feels like the way the tracks are picked is a lot more dependant from who's on screen. I'm going to assume it changes later as I'm allowed to explore places, but just between the Tantalas's ships, Alexandrie and Alexandrie's Castle, all the tracks I heard so far were characters themes, instead of place themes.Also the jesters scare the fuck outta me but they really have a really good theme.

You go not automatically pick it up, so I see a lot of players assume they got it automatically and walk out, only to get lost.Also, a little language oddity here: the brutos Bloutch starts telling Steiner about another brutos going out with a tavern maid. Steiner answers with (literally) "I do not want to know it". I'm pretty much that the Engl*sh translation for it would be "I do not want to hear it".I just thought it was funny.

The mog right 'ere has an option to ask him about the mog post, a chain of quests that follow you as you progress through the story.But he doesn't give me any letter and complains he hasn't received any, meaning that I missed the first letter of the chain when I played with Vivi and met the first mog of the story.So yeah.
