I wanted to give my take on this popularity stuff if that's OK. Wall of text incoming. Sky Striker and similar ones are the example and I feel that they're people within the card game sphere but if you try to push beyond it doesn't work. You also got the hardcore otaku market that would buy expensive statues and such, they're profitable since they're people that would do anything for something and not because they're a huge market, they're actually quite niche in the grand scheme of things. We can say the 1st Sky Striker animation was bogged by the short time but the Magistus one is the longest at 10 minutes and it was genuine dud. Some people brought Branded doing 1M minumum but even if 2nd episodes have big drops, Branded had a huge one and the last only got to the 200K range, which makes it look like people checked the 1st one and didn't like it to want to check the rest.I may be wrong but I feel that this stuff only works withing the initial card game sphere and trying to go beyond that just won't work.

Performapal seems pretty strong compared to Pendulum Magician from my tests, their searching power is insane and I had 10 cards in my test hand at one point even after setting scales, the main problems I can see tho is how their stat manipulation effects don't work on link monsteres, their endboards aren't strong, their recovery efforts are sluggish, their ability to synchro and xyz summon are limited without any in type verions and how pendulum scales take up 2 out of 5 of the spell and trap zones.I wasn't here for the days they were at their strongest like the legendary PePE I heard so much about so I don't know if I'm going off decade long hype or that the old rules were just too generous to pendulums somehow
