Forcing your own terminology and being stubborn about it is bound to cause issues, for dark lord the Japanese categorization is Majin which is kind of hard to find something that fits properly a few series even just leave it as is like dragon ball, Dark Lord came from some random side material and honestly I think it's a questionable pick for a name since it's questionable Alicesoft had a proper English name in mind. Demon King on the other hand is the standard direct translation of maou which I find funny that there are some translators that do everything in their power to avoid using it.
Regardless on what translation you land on the maou is the big bad and the majin is their direct minions that have been given a part of its power, Personally I'd give an English name that symbolizes their relationship and demon and demon king match just fine which people was using beforehand and fiend and archfiend fit the bill too. Ludo/Steiner came along and decided to use Dark Lord because of some Alicesoft material from VI where they used Dark Lord.
Ludo was pretty new to Japanese at the time and Alicesoft’s English is really bad and inconsistent so following Alicesoft led to shit like Kamiera -> Kamilla (still popular with old Niwas), Myedusae and Gele.
Maria followed Ludo’s choices.

Later an anon started translating Toushin Toshi I and II. Arunaru who had his own ideas on nameshit and passionately argued in thread about a lot of the choices (arguing about nameshit was really common back then). Arunaru was the biggest proponent of Demon ahead of Dark Lord and used it in Kichikuou Rance.

Arunaru ended up as the official mankograbber translator for VI, and despite years of arguing in thread to use Demon and Demon King he used Fiend and Archfiend.

The day it got revealed to be Archfiend we went through over 1000 posts in less than a day.

I saw someone play this CYOA movie game set in China about guiding the female MC from being a lowly concubine to the literal empress of China, supposedly based on true events, and I couldn't shake the thought that as exciting as the idea of a harem sounds for the first two minutes, it's really weird how impersonal it is. I think the bigger "problem" is that Patty and Rance look like a layer on top of the background rather than being a part of the CG, if that makes sense. Something looks off perspective-wise about the horizontal level that the inflatable pool (plus Patty and Rance) implies and the horizontal level that the intersection of the roof and the walls to the left imply. In TT1 they weren't for reasons you mentioned, though admittedly you have a 100 percent success to run away from Goat-sans supposedly. I died to them a couple times because I kept mashing and didn't know that Goat-sans summon Dragon Knights, I just thought Dragon Knights appeared randomly after fights like Fiends in SMT.

For many Alicesoft games, I can't agree. The ones that are heavy on the sex scenes don't really let you chase. Daibanchou gives you a sex scene every two turns no matter what and the Beat series has a stage of every turn intended for sex. For the ones that aren't heavy on the sex scenes, it's usually tied to plot progression so you aren't doing the chasing yourself. I'd strongly recommend you to play at least 03 besides 01 and 02 to really have the absolute bare minimum worldbuilding down before tackling X. 03 introduces a loooot of critical information to you that you will need to know to have the slightest idea about what is going on in the later games.

Even if it's a reference, none of the KR rebels take part in the coup and there's a difference between a coup and a rebellion, it's more of an example of lore that is only revealed in the blog or manual, it's main point of consequence is Menad's promotion and Lia's enthronment, not the coup itself.

This is probably addressed later on in the series, but is the potential for magic a matter of genetics (are two magi destined to have children capable of magic) or is it sort of random with the likelihood or unlikeliness of possessing potential for it being somewhat inheritable?

I can't remember where it was said but it's a mix of genetics + lotto, two mages are much more likely to have a mage child than a non mage couple but a child from that same mage family can come out with having no potential for magic at all and vice versa for the non mage couple.
