I wish Minecraft had a screenshot mode that lets you take vertical pictures
>>576517663Reading stuff like this always makes me smile. It's a real confidence boost when someone that bad can get published, you know
>>576517946Is there any game that has that feature? Usually a screenshot is just a rendered frame saved as an image, but what you're talking about would require a separate camera rendering a completely new frame. I've just never seen it done that way

>>576519412There's a mod like that: https://modrinth.com/mod/replaymodBut it's still using your regular resolution, since all it changes is where the camera is

>>576506259I had made a small garden in my town. For the longest time It was littered with all flower types in a random arrangement, thought it looked off. Now I've arranged it by color group, near the water stream I have the blueish hues, near the red bark tree and the orange leaf tree I have put the warm hues, and the pinkish hues were therefore last for the last part of the ParkNow it looks much better. I have come to realize it's easy to make things look good when you try to stick to 3 things, 3 colors, 3 patterns, 3 stages (for a tower or any part of a building), and because the park is already busy with heavy green and brownish textures of soil, bark, fences, pots, it's best to really only implement 1 color of flower by section, and now finally it looks good.

I don't like the idea of them dropping full sand blocks. I also like the idea of being able to crush gravel with an anvil and having running water touching a dried coral block turn it into sand. why not just add all those? then you can choose whichever way you want and sand becomes much more renewable>>576519718that used to be a base game functionality in indev, but was removed in infdev because it used to take screenshots of the whole world, and that was no longer possible. it was such a cool feature. they should really bring it back and just limit it to a handful of chunks around the player>>576526484I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE SNIFFER DIMENSION!

>>576579471kek, he is like a manipulative woman, keeping himself the door open to play the victim card. Switching dynamically between personalized "its what works for me" and generalized "players should". Once you had to deal with a femoid who is like that, you spot that behavior from a mile away.It is dishonest behavior that roleplays as honesty. Like when a femoid says "oh we are so honest, that's why our relationship works", it is a code word for "I can be shitty and you will have to deal with it, and its not my fault ever".And you can't argue against this, because you will be the boogeyman. You have to let people make their own experiences. And that usually happens fast, because manipulative holes like this always get more and more extreme till the victim has no other choice than to GTFO.It's like learning that the oven is hot by touching it, rather than by other people telling you that it is hot.And it will happen with that datapack as well. People will try it, they will see that a vegetarian lifestyle while taking in refugees is dumb and will abandon it... if they don't, the creator will add even more dumb stuff until they do.You can't contribute to this either, because he can always shut you down with an "i dont like it". He roleplays as if it's an OpenSource project, but isn't going to accept a community request, for the good of everyone, if it doesn't match his personal style.tl;dr: just lean back and wait

Like we aren't even allowed to get mutton from goats. He drives that up to the extreme and makes slaughtering cows for beef useless as well. He claims that he does it to discourage overcrowded slaughterhouses. But obviously there are easy ways to do this, like by simply making them drop nothing if 5+ other cows are nearby. He is lying, his actual goal was to discourage you from killing animals completely.Him being successful is harmful, because it encourages mojang to go forward on this dumb path. The video is also professionally produced, scripted and edited. This is not some personal passion project, it is very well advertised and shilled.

>>576590898>The video is also professionally produced, scripted and edited. This is not some personal passion project, it is very well advertised and shilled.100%, he says he doesn't care about making money from the mod so it's not paywalled or anything but youtube and modrinth both pay. The "I just made this for me" is also complete bullshit when he's gone to such lengths to explain all his (nonsensical, inexplicable) choices and sell you on them
>>576590898>He is lying, his actual goal was to discourage you from killing animals completely.I only don't like killing animals if they're a bitch to refind/breed like parrots, wolfs, cats etc. Honestly make it easier to breed animals and overhaul the meat system so all animals can be killed if you want. No porkchops or beef but like 'large herbivore meat' 'medium/small herbivore meat' for rabbits and parrots 'aquatic meat' from like dolphins and turtles, so all animals can become cattle if you so wish.I just wish we could get illager and villager bones and skin to make some gnarly stuff.
>>576589085>are paid mods really a thing? You know how selling mods is against Mojang's ToS?Not on Bedrock, because there they take a cut. So yeah, you've got free and paid mods (called "add-ons").I'm not against the idea, mind you, but their Marketplace is some trash designed to steal money from you because you need to buy """coins""" and use these coins to buy add-ons, skins and such. It's very predatory.

>>576591928I have a combined datapack where i make all changes for me to play the game how i want it.Like i have flame-arrows for crossbows that place torches where they land, a keepInventory that takes durability and removes XP on death, stackable potions, compass that shows coords and biome (i don't want to have to open F3 whatsoever), that ads drops to mobs that have none and remove quirky interactions if they are stupid (like have armadillo drop the scout on death rather than torturing it by ripping it off) etc.I published the individual things on planetminecraft but then didn't care to keep it updated with the stupid drops. If i would publish a combined datapack either on modrinth or planet minecraft, nobody is going to pay attention to this. People are far more ready to download individual parts to stich them together themselves, rather than to play your personal vision. You just waste your time and have to keep it updated, even when you yourself don't want to.
>>576562904Reminds me of an old Lego castle I used to have. It has a few secrets built in, like walls you could open and whatnot
>>576593096i've done this a few times where i would boot up a modern version, start modding and data/resource packing it up but then i always get tired and quit. so many stupid decisions that i have to revert or tweak that i always end up feeling more like a game designer and not a playerexamples of things i do: longer days, no elytra, faster minecarts, notch textures, keep inv, no f3 coords if i feel adventurous, no gay commie splash texts, etc.there is just so much garbage to keep up with on modern versions i feel like. the next "forever" world i make i think i will just stick in 1.20.2 and commit to that version forever, only adding in backports for the things i like. i hate the new versioning system and their release cycle so much, unbelievable level of slop, my autism can't handle the constant changes

You're just upset you can't trap and abuse them.Having the environment gradually change like that is extremely non-vanilla and messes with your world, like endermen but maybe worse. There's a reason they restrict this stuff to just a few natural things and they change slowly. It's also laggy. >>576585436>i've just watched the announcement video and it does have that weird virtue signaling faggot vibe to it>it's almost comical, and yet you can't say anything against it or somehow you gonna be spun into being the bad guy lolIn RL, when faced with that dishonest manipulative femoid behavior, it's best to immediately trigger the trap by opposing them in an objective way, and when the inevitable "oh, but this means you also believe xyz and are evil!" comes, you go "that's not what i said", if she goes for a second round "you are offended about something you made up in your mind" and if she goes for a third one "you are being dishonest and this is your problem, not mine" and shut her down. It's like a one strike -> two strike -> out system. All of your statements are truthful, you didn't allow them to change subject and you addressed the root of the problem, their dishonesty. You can then go back to the actual subject at hand and continue, if you feel like it.But you have to be on equal footing for this. You are not on equal footing with an eceleb or when talking to a guy about his love interest. You can only nudge them into the right direction and then tell them when they have their first doubts.Incels will tell you to never apologize to a woman for something that wasn't wrong and to never change your mind just to please a woman. Those advises have this behavior in mind. But the best advice is to spot that psycho bullshit and to GTFO if it happens regularly. You don't want to be playing mind games constantly. It's not leftoid behavior either, it is female behavior. And it gets even worse when they take psych meds. Leftoids are just more feminine and more likely to be on psych meds.
>>576597089Yeah, but it would be weird to always have a sand layer on top of sand. Snow layers are already an oddity, but they're kind of required for the snowy look while having normal terrain. Sand layers aren't required for that. I'd rather have sand blocks regenerate based on some formula that always makes the terrain back into natural dunes if it detects it's not natural looking, so it only changes in the places where the player obviously took sand, and apply it to beaches and oceans as well, but that's too dynamic for Minecraft.>>576597928It would be a bit silly for gravel to be crushed by a one block fall. >>576598498>It would be a bit silly for gravel to be crushed by a one block fallIt's a game, so I'm not sure how relevant that is. However, I don't think Mojang would want a mechanic that's awkward for the average player. You'd have to set up chaining slime-block launchers to cycle the anvils in order to automate it, and it's not exactly convenient to do manually when you have to mine and replace the anvils. If we're ever getting renewable sand, it's likely going to be through a much simpler system

>>576617214To be fair, all the current crops are Swedish staples, so I get why they're in the game. And before adding new ones, they probably want to rebalance or update the food/hunger system in general. I don't think they're going to add rice without also adding recipes that use it, basically. >>576628162I feel like that would make it too easy to get string. The only reason to make a spider grinder - or even to have a regular mob grinder that allows spider spawns - is for the string. If you could just make it out of wool, you'd basically remove the purpose of the spider as a whole

what other curse enchantments would (You) add to the game?
>>576700069curses are pretty fucking pointless as it is. ones with actually interesting gameplay implications could be cool. maybe one that prevents the thing its on being repaired, by both anvil and mending, but it could come on loot with stronger-than-normal enchants?like you get an efficiency vii diamond pick in a chest but it also comes with a curse so you cant repair it, so when its gone, its gone

Or Jan 2022 for that matter.
>>576698576Write your own camera renderer, and then add logic for selecting what gets rendered?
>>576700069Curse of Greed. It would add one level to each enchantment per curse (excluding itself). So if you got all three curses on a chestplate, you'd be able to have Protection VI
>>576700069Curse of Stickiness, like binding but for tools. Can't drop it from your inventory or put it in a chest, would only show up on the tool after you take it out of the loot chest you found it in.Curse of Fragility, the tool or armor takes more durability damage. If you allow for tiered curses maybe make it an inverse of unbreaking with 3 levels, an increasing chance of using 2 durability each time it would lose durability. On that note, maybe some curses that are inverses of enchantments could be interesting. Maybe you'd find a chestplate with Prot 5, but it has Anti-Thorns 2 or something so every time you get hit the enemy that hit you heals a little. Or a sword with sharpness 6 but anti-bane of arthropods, so you deal more damage to mostly everything, but you deal a lot less damage to spiders and silverfish. Stuff like that.
>>576701051I think the only way curses could be made interesting is if they allowed items to roll higher-than-normal-level enchantments. Anything else and they'd be a minor annoyance at best, completely ignored at worst
>>576701338it could be kinda cool, but if it made "god gear" or the objective best gear something you have to get absurdly lucky to get, i don't think i'd like it. if it was something you could make yourself, like throwing curses on something to max out certain enchants, it could be interesting. maybe.with how easy it is to get max enchanted gear there's really no reason to use things with curses on them. like you'd pretty much never put on anything with curse of binding on it even if it had all the enchants you want, especially now with armor trims and stuff, or if they add more enchants. I've used curse of vanishing tools from end cities for a little while until i either died with them or got proper tools, but that's about it really. Also, pretty much the only place you'd get usable gear with curses on it is end cities. Ancient cities have pants and hoes that can have curses i guess but those hardly really count. Nowhere else in the game are you going to get usable items with curses.
>>576688063Whoever invented bloom and motion blur should be shot.
>>576700069Midas Touch. Would be funny as shit and I think some people would actually seek it out.
>>576703843Anything you attack or mine turns to gold?
>>576704109Yup.Not everything you walk on because that would be too much, but if you "touch" anything with your hand or a tool, it turns to gold. It should work on mobs, too.Think of the possibilities.>Timmy just equipped his new "Midas Touch" boots>wants to go back to base>tries to hop on his horse>it turns to goldWe'd need a new potion to heal mobs, of course.
>>576701705Now that I think about it, wouldn't that be a pretty vanilla-friendly way of overhauling the enchanting table? You get to pick whatever you want, but the more you pick the higher the likelihood of getting a curse. So instead of getting efficiency, unbreaking, and fortune for your pickaxe, you'd settle for just efficiency and fortune, and then apply unbreaking and mending from villagers for the finished product. That'd keep both systems relevant, while also reducing a lot of the RNG - unless you specifically feel like gambling
>>576704421It would be pretty funny, for a while, but it would also be an insanely powerful way of farming gold. Imagine going mining, but all the stone you mine becomes gold. You'd fill up a few shulkers in no time
>>576704658I know, although it's not like gold is a really sought-after metal. But if that's a problem we could just make the curse very rare.

I don't doubt though that they have some things in the works as far as enchanting and whatnot. It'll just take time to get there. Part of the reason why I also do overall like the drop system as flawed as it is. Sometimes it is just the sort of filler stuff but sometimes it's something more substantial, like the spear weapon which added some new dynamics to combat

>>576782093You are retarded if you think this is for anything but the spin off game. One of the games has a whole overhauled end dimension that they still haven't ported to the real game and you think they're adding this shit?
A month after the last disappointment and we're already back to >NEW DIMENSION SOON!
Why are people pretending mojang is so based and godly for adding a new hue of wood and adding some stairs and slabs? This shit can not take such resources that it's considered an entire update. Like, it's a few new textures and block ids. Do they even make a new texture for the stairs or just wrap the texture around the shape in a particular way. In either case, how does this entire update take more than a week?
>>576792030for modders it'd take like a week to add a new shade of wood and stairs/slabs for blocks with existing textures. but mojang isn't just doing that, they're also taking several week long vacations. oh, and when they're in the office they're also fixing bugs that don't affect regular players at all but fixing them does break cool redstone contraptions and farms. and when they aren't doing that, they're refactoring the code to make it as annoying for modders to update their mods as possible.
Nether update wa the best in a very long time and they said "yeah we don't want to ever do something like that again because it stwessed us out :(" So now we're stuck with blockslop for creative mode players.
>>576792429caves and cliffs had a pretty ok chance at matching the nether update, and overall i like most of the changes from it. but there were 4 caves and cliffs updates.
>>576792030Content creators who don't bootlick mojang immediately get cancelled by white knights. Hell anyone saying something negative like that will get piled on. Then they'll use the excuse they're sorting out code/data/optimizing ect but like it's the biggest game in the world, they have the money to afford more than an indie studio to do that while they work on content. It's also partly because microsoft is definitely drip feeding content instead of doing big updates to keep the longevity of minecraft despite that only existing because modders..
>>576792030There's no separate texture for stairs, it uses the texture of the base block. They just have to add "pink concrete" or whatever to a few lists and hit recompile and then boom you've got pink concrete stairs. Probably a 3 minute job for someone who knows where everything is.
>>576792862>they have the money to afford more than an indie studio to do that while they work on content.Ok ok, I know the current mojang devs arent the greatest and all, but I'd rather they dripfeed dubious content AND be the ones in charge of code refactoring than let microslop outsource the extremely important job of making maintainable and readable code for minecraft to some studio filled with nothing but indians, which is exactly what they would do.
Genuinely pisses me off how overhyped that cushion was. People unironically saying "this will change minecraft forever." How fucking gullible can people be?
>>576792181>a week*hour
>>576792030It's disingenuous to imply the only things they've done this update is new wood and stairs/slabs. They added >new biome, with a new tree shape>shelf mushrooms>cushions>straw beds>the new explorer maps>abandoned camp structure and all of its variations per biomethey've fixed a shitton of bugs including one of the oldest bugs in the game. added a bunch of new functionalities to datapacks, they made post effect shaders more useableimplemented a new and improved system for transparency with the help of community membersthe main thing a lot of people are excited for is the cushions and the new concrete stairs and slabs lel not even the autumn biome, but to be fair they barely did anything to it after adding it.>>576792181>they're refactoring the code to make it as annoying for modders to update their mods as possible.would you rather the game continue to run like shit for eternity or get farmed out to some contract workers? they're spending the time now to refactor the codebase and add multithreading to improve performance by giving rendering its own thread. Plus last year they de-obfuscated the code which in the long run will help modders.>>576792429>>576792596Caves & Cliffs and Nether Update were great, but several of the recent drops have also been great like the Happy Ghast, the Copper Age, and the Mounts of Mayhem one with the spear and new camel jockey enemy
>>576793134>would you rather the game continue to run like shit for eternityLol performance gets worse every fucking update and always has. They literally just had to bump the recommended system ram to 16GB it's gotten so bad. When I first upgraded to 16GB ram it was only so I could run the biggest, most bloated 1.12 modpacks and now you need it to run fucking vanilla.
>576793134Zero chance he doesn't get paid for this, if he doesn't that's incredibly sad to try to be a hype man for a company that is obviously trying to find the minimum possible input they can get away with. Every single thing you listed could be accomplished in the same week as the stairs by a team that was passionate about crafting the game.
>>576793063They wouldn't outsource it but they can surely hire more workers for mojang. They made such a big deal about how they went out and recorded animal voices for the new baby mobs. Like ok but what about the game why did the entire team need to visit the farm
>several of the recent drops have also been great like the...camel jockey
>>576793513The funny thing about that actually is recently the meta for modding has been to reduce your allocated ram. I'm running a hyper modded 1.21.1 instance with 8gb of ram, and it would shit itself if i gave it much more than that because java is hilarious with the way it handles garbage collection.
All the money goes into minecraft live and the company cry therapy sessions I guess.
>>576793513>Lol performance gets worse every fucking update and always hasSo you haven't played in like 4-5 years I take it? Performance has been steadily improving over the last several years, they literally made one of the community performance mods obsolete a while ago and have been making steady progress since then. They're in the middle of refactoring the code to separate rendering to its own thread to further improve performance.>They literally just had to bump the recommended system ram to 16GB it's gotten so badGod you're retarded. They did that because they're working on switching from the all-but deprecated OpenGL to Vulkan 1.3 and planning on adding Vibrant Visuals to Java in the next year or two once the refactor and multithread support is complete. It would make sense if they could also remove curses, since then you'd be able to gamble, but I don't see the point otherwise>Anvil limit should be removed when combining enchantments>Repairing items should incur no anvil costThe entire "prior work penalty" should be ripped out of the game, taken out back, and executed for crimes against common sense>Add a way to influence what enchantments you will get from the enchanting table by paying certain materials in a new slot>Paying enough of the required material will guarantee that enchantmentAnything to reduce the RNG, honestly, and that's a pretty vanilla-friendly approach>Placing an enchanted book in a lectern attached to a librarian villager will make his next unlocked book trade be an exact copy of that bookI'm for this, and they should also add a way of retrieving enchantments from gear somehow. Maybe by destroying the item in the process. That'd make even low-level loot more interesting, since even if the item is garbage, it might have an enchantment you want
>>576782093Everything I've heard of that new dimension feels very un-Minecraft-y. It might work great in a spin-off, but it doesn't fit the core game. I'm increasingly hoping this is wrong/exaugurated/not coming to vanilla

I also like the idea of being able to extract enchants from items back onto books, but I don't know what block could be given that functionality. the thing that fascinates me the most about the matcha pack is that the whole opening section of the video is framed as>minecraft "punishes" casuals because you NEED to be able to build mega bases, but the only practical way to do that is with farms, theres no other way to get lots of resources with grindingwhich, while framed poorly, i can see the logic behind (personally, id just say dont build megabases if you dont want to make farms, but i can see the argument that someone who likes big builds and survival gameplay but doesnt like farms would want to tweak the game to better support their preferred playstyle)but then the pack does absolutely fuck all to make bulk resources more accessible without farming. its more of a progression rework
>>576836674I just use creative to skip minecraft's progression retardation, it's not that hard. not dragging villagers thousands of blocks in a ghast just to grind mending. who am I to argue if a stack of spawn eggs falls from the sky when I need villagers? don't need a gay ass data pack for that.

>>576830682>longer answerI think you're making a good point, but at the same time it might be as simple as most of these people are mentally ill and don't deal well with adversity or anxiety as a result
>>576840128postmodernism is a fundamental denial/rejection of reality and thus itself is a mental illness. so you're right. would this particular individual still be severely mentally ill if he lived in an alternate reality on a rural farm with no internet access? probably not.
>>576836062Pretty nice, but I feel like the birch and dark prismarine kind of clash. Too many colors, basically. I'd also suggest changing out the campfires for something else. You could hide netherrack behind dark oak trapdoors or something. Might be closer in color to the anvils, or it might look significantly worse
>>576840334Thinking nothing matters doesn't mean you deny reality, if that's what you're trying to say. And I don't see how any of this is relevant to being afraid of death.
>>576844160nihilism is a symptom of post modernism, which itself is a denial of reality. starting to think you didn't read the post.postmodernists fear permanence. death is capital P Permanence. it is the ultimate enemy.
the one thing I liked about matcha is zombies being fast. zombies are only the speed they are currently because they were implemented before sprint was in the game. so really it makes sense that their speed should be updated to be faster than your walk speed but slower than your sprint. mobs should all have way larger view distance too since the only reason their view is so short is because people used to play on like 4 render distance but now everyone plays with like 32 distance or something like voxy. its why nights feel so easy now.
>>576844579I think the issue with zombies is that their whole schtick is overwhelming you with numbers, being able to spawn reinforcements, but they just all follow the same path walking at you so you can press s and click and kill them all. They should have a chance to randomly circle you either clockwise or counter clockwise until they're behind you so they can actually overwhelm you.
>>576844369But I don't see how nihilism is a denial of reality.
>>576844579mobs in general are just kinda worthless. low level players just mash at them until they go away, high level players build a mob switch and ignore them forever. I'd rather they be rarer and stronger, and give a greater reward for killing them.maybe zombies still spawn at a reduced rate, but then you get a larger zombie boss that rarely spawns and summons hordes, and killing it gives a rare item and disables zombie spawns for a few ingame days or something. make it strong enough to be a threat, but weak enough that it's still something you can kill without much preparation while caving or whatever. as it stands you get basically nothing for interacting with monsters at all, except for the neutral enderman that you need to beat the game. >576844915either you're retarded or intentionally obtuse, done responding to you either way.

a friend's asking me for hardware upgrade advice, saying he'd like it if minecraft ran a bit better, but I don't know a thing about the game. I asked him to show me his task manager while it was running to see where the bottleneck is, since I figured the game was eating all his ram or something, but nothing's close to maxed out. is minecraft still like, single core performance only and that's where his problem probably is? he's got a 6 core amd so if that was the case I would think the usage would be pegged closer to 16% rather than the 4 core 25%, but who knows.

>>576979971Yeah around the caves and cliffs update they changed it so 1 light level was enough to block spawns. >>576994581Making surface peaceful is a bit of a good change IMO, by the time you get to the ender dragon you're done with vanilla mobs anyways, they just become an obstacle in your builds. Keeping them in caves still helps to distinguish it from peaceful.
>>576997528no, it's a pretty terrible change. at best they should make the radius of beacons a no spawn zone, and it should be optional and default to off. it would break mob farms made above the surface at a time when you need them most because you get the elytra when you beat the dragon. and that kind of change wouldn't disincentive mob farms, it would just make them harder to build. people would still build them but it would be even more tedious than before. horrible change.
>>576997528I feel like its a bad change because its just going to contribute to the "I beat the game" feeling that makes most people quit after beating the ender dragon. The game becoming pseudo-creative lategame should be treated as a problem not a feature because this is what causes boredom.

Hey /mcg/ I have a really stupid question you guys might be able to answer.I have never played Minecraft, so I don't have a working knowledge of how it, nor mods, works. I do however like Godzilla, and after checking out a little bit of the fan-made Godzilla Bloodbath series, I've been getting Bloodbath horror mod Mincraft videos popping up in my recommendations which are a bit entertaining, if feeling rather staged. But my question is, are all these videos AI or something? Maybe it's just different stages of development of the mod or something, but there is a strange inconsistency in how/where Bloodbath appears, and how it looks when it does. If these are videos of the same mod, I figure I'd see a little more repetition than I do

If a player just HAS to min-max and HAS to follow youtube tutorials, no possible change can undo that.Imagine having a story based adventure game and players addicted to watching summaries and guides on youtube before playing. You can not fix those people, claiming that it is and that you do it, is a false promise.>wandering trader giving maps to villagesThat's alright, but doesn't change anything, because villages are so common.>making it about curiosity rather than bloatThe datapack adds different types of furnaces for no other purpose than wasting time, a bunch of food items with micro-crafting and takes away incentives for animal husbandry for food.
>minecraft requires you to build farms if you want lots of resources>heres my datapack to fix that by making resources more abundant>look inside>progression overhaul and botw food for some fucking reason, genuinely zero changes to resource gatheringi felt like i was having a stroke watching the video. he states the packs entire reason for existing is resource availability and then nothing he adds has anything to do with resource availability, its just "i want minecraft to be terraria mod/pack #35453"
>>577028878He did solve the needing lots of resources = needing to make farms issue. By making the dragon fight feel even more like an end to the game to the impressionable normies, their drive to play the game afterwards (and therefore the drive to build large projects requiring lots of materials) vanishes. So, no farms are necessary because there is no point in doing anything beyond the bare minimum in this slopfest of a datapack.

Normies will always have the issue of "having no incentive to play" in every sandbox game. They just live in denial and make up excuses. It's not them who is at fault, but the REQUIREMENT to build farms, because they NEED to do what others do, its not possible to do your own thing. When i started minecraft i played for a year in the same world without building a single farm besides some mob spawner, which i could do without tutorial and that rarely got used. And it was amazing.>but but i NEED to build a villager trading hall and reroll a librarian 200 timesFor what reason? Just throw it into an enchanting table. Need levels? We now have trial chambers.>NOOO, i NEED TO HAVE A STEADY SUPPLY OF SHARPNESS VWhy?You can't even address their actual issues, because they deny them. They need the opposite of what they claim. They need the sandbox to be removed. Nobody would play the game different from you if there is one clear path of progression, that doesn't allow deviation. It can branch, it can give you the pretense that you have choices, but it needs to be very clear about what you have to do at all times.Think about the games that normies play:>cookie clicker on their phone>afk gamesThink about the most popular minecraft servers:>Hypixel Skyblock>100% of popular survival servers have spawners you can buy with ingame shekels and like a minion that autokills those>they have some set arena area where you can farm manually endlessly>dedicated area to farm for specific resourcesJust be honest to yourself.
>>577033057>Allumeria>doubling down on the Minecraft blockinessHell no. That's completely the incorrect approach. Blockiness is something a 3D Terraria should run from. Low poly is where it's at and what it should target. Blocky terrain, yes, but everything else should be low poly, not blocky.
>>577032710I can get behind this one.The most annoying thing about creepers mid-game is that when you go out at night to kill some mobs, you leave behind a battle zone of bomb craters.Without having to patch creeper holes, you could go out and get a bit of gunpower whenever you run out of rockets.Actually, i may look into doing this by datapack myself, if its possible....
>>577033514i like building farms. i enjoy learning the mechanics behind why they work, how the designs were made, and gathering the resources for and building them in survival can be a fun zen thing. Afking them is a nice way to make progress in the world without actively playing it. And, i build them to further other projects that require those resources, or sometimes just to say i built a gold farm for example, that's something that took some amount of effort and it's something i haven't done before. Sometimes, rarely, I even make some slight modifications or a wholly 'original' farm from the information on how other farms like that are made, and that's a fun puzzle.I'll never understand the zoomers that loathe building farms, don't put the slightest thought into how they work or what they're for and just think it's necessary and forced upon them, and COMPLAIN the entire time before inevitably quitting the world or server just to do it all over again later. Completely hopeless group.

And then they wonder why they don't enjoy the game and blame everyone else but themselves. The biggest lie of them all is:>if i don't have to make farms, i will build more and do actual buildsA farm can give a build a purpose. Surely you will love your large castle much more if there is a reason to go there, something inside that you need.btw. there aren't even that many blocks locked behind a requirement to farm mobs.Like if you want prismarine, mining the monument itself rather than building a farm is enough. Even getting bone blocks may be faster by going to a Soul Sand valley. It's unironically the new Resin that requires a farm from you.
>>577035029>>>if i don't have to make farms, i will build more and do actual builds>A farm can give a build a purpose. Surely you will love your large castle much more if there is a reason to go there, something inside that you need.this. making big farms and wrapping them in nice builds with the materials you get from the big farms was an idea i took a while to arrive at but was the gameplay loop that really unlocked the idea of a forever world for me

>>577034018I'm in the exact same boat. building farms is what I like most about the game, but I would never say the game made me feel like I NEEDED to build a farm. lets say, hypothetically, i were to make a datapack (or mod) that actually does what the matcha guy said he was going to do, and makes farm-reliant resources more abundant. what are the resources thatd need something?>resin>prismarine>gunpowderim sure im missing lots, im a farmfag so i dont really think about the game this way. like to me an iron farm is pretty essential, but to an anti farm player is the mining option fine?theres also the question of stuff thats plentiful in certain places. like mangrove wood is very plentiful if you go to a swamp for it, but is going there every time you need it acceptable? if you just go there once, bring back some saplings, and use those every time you need a bunch of mangrove, thats a pain in the ass
>>577033514>Its a SANDBOX so that means there should be no rules or obstacles and people should be allowed to do whatever they want however they wantI see this sort of retarded thinking a lot but I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding when you call survival Minecraft a sandbox. There is a difference between a survival sandbox and a true sandbox. Its the difference between survival and creative mode. Playing Kerbal Space Program in career mode where you have to pay for parts vs sandbox mode where you don't. Playing Cities Skylines with infinite money and resources vs having to balance the economy and services.A survival sandbox derives its fun from presenting challenges and obstacles in your way of creating things. Think about every other survival sandbox ever and how retarded it would be to justify an infinite money printer that trivialises the experience because "its a sandbox broooo"You play survival mode because it has obstacles and resource gathering that make your builds feel earned compared to creative and because it gives you more varied gameplay because instead of just building you're doing other things like gathering materials, exploring, fighting monsters etc. The more you take away from these obstacles the more dull survival becomes. The more you make fighting monsters and gathering materials trivial the less interesting survival becomes. Minecraft not having "clear progression" is not the issue that "normies" have. Its that the "progression" of game comes from building mob farms which require you exploit hidden mechanics like the specifics of mob pathfinding and spawning for the reward of making your game more boring by removing the need for fighting mobs or gathering resources. >just ignore it bro, no one is forcing you to play in the most effective way!The most effective way of playing a game should be the most fun way of playing a game. If the only challenge is self imposed then the game fundamentally fails at being a survival sandbox
How do you guys like the new world generation? I've barely played on the new one and thought it was alright except for the caves. I think I prefer the caves in the old world-gen. I could be wrong of course. What do you think?
>>577054550Its good enough that I stopped bothering with world gen mods but not perfect. I like the new caves but I think the massive caverns are a little too common which makes them less cool to find. I'd like a mix where most of the caves are like the old cave gen but you'd rarely come across big cavern systems like modern gen.
>>577052795Well. Leather.>but to an anti farm player is the mining option fine?It should be. I can't think of a way to make it more abundant without needing to farm a mob. Or maybe you could add more iron to a few loot tables (Nether Fortresses, Illager Outposts).
>>577052795I think the average player tends to see the following mob farms as pretty much necessary>expBecause the enchanting system is retarded and everyone abuses mending. Remove mending and make enchanting less retarded. Maybe add other sources of lots of exp like disenchanting gear could refund exp, so you could get a lot of exp from disenchanting slop gear you find while adventuring. >skeletonsTypically a byproduct of generic exp/mob grinder but arrows are annoying to craft due to how annoying flint is to gather and feathers are scarce unless you have an auto chicken farm as well. Just make flint craftable from gravel directly and have chickens drop more feathers or something similar.Bonemeal is also super useful to have in large quantities but I think fossils in the nether already give a pretty decent alternative unless you need literally infinite for another farm.>creepersPeople want rockets to use the elytra to travel everywhere. Delete the elytra and noone would want a creeper farm. >iron golemsI think people mainly want a ton of iron specifically because hoppers are so expensive for how many you need for contraptions. Rails too. Make these waaay less expensive and I think people would be okay with the amount of iron from caving with a fortune pick. >cowsNeed tons of leather for bookshelves mainly. Changing the book recipe to give 3 books, so 1 leather = 1 bookshelf would help. Letting you make leather from rotten flesh helps with leather supply a ton but Mojang would never consider that for obvious reasons.Things like prismarine and resin are annoying to get lots of without a farm but unless you want their specific blocks for a build people dont bother with them so I don't deem them as necessary.
>>576993992What's with the random string?
>>577061753If animals won't breed on their own, there should be a way to get around feeding by hand.Maybe add troughs or something that you can fill with food and animals will simply go to to become willing. Give this system a penalty like slower time to breed or longer cooldown between willingness so that doing it by hand would yield better results for the time invested.
>>576993992I need to know this mod that makes pigs funny looking
>>577052802Survival becoming duller because of choices you make doesn't make it any less of a sandbox game. You thinking your way is the most fun way to play doesn't mean the game's not a sandbox. Multiple people each having a different opinion on what's the most fun way to play, and the game letting you do whatever with the tools it gives you, is what makes it a sandbox.
Tried building a bit different from how i normally do and I kinda like how it turned outAlso, what are (You)r favorite soundtrack picks? For me it's>aria math>danny>broken clocks>featherfall>memories
>>577068365That looks great, anon. A good example of actual nice texturing. I can't help but hate the fact that dark oak trapdoors look like chocolate bars, though
>>576997528If you never had to worry about mobs, then lighting up and spawn-proofing areas wouldn't matter anymore. It would be like giving the player infinite saturation. Sure, it would be convenient, but it would also kill an entire aspect of the game
>>577028203>takes away incentives for animal husbandry for foodI think this is probably my biggest issue with it. The whole "all options should be equally rewarding" approach really only works when you're talking about major systems; not minor details. You should be able to reach the same performance in an RPG whether you play warrior, ranger, or mage, because those are options that affect the entire gameplay experience. If you can choose to either breed animals or grow crops for food, then most people are simply going to pick crops because they're easier to manage and don't cause any entity lag. The result is that you've done twice the work (two sets of recipes) for the same amount of content. Something that takes more effort should always provide a better reward, whether through direct value or scalability. Farms are more efficient because they scale better, but that's irrelevant to someone who doesn't need several shulker boxes of iron blocks. In that sense, you already have your options: put in a little bit of effort to mine a little bit by yourself, or put in a lot of effort to build a farm that produces endless resources. Now some farms might be too easy to build for how good they are, but you don't solve that by making the manual method equally overpowered
I miss my previous world from a few years back, I think it's gone forever and there's no way to search for the seed.It wasn't super special but I spawned in a coastal windswept savanna underneath a huge sky island with a waterfall and a lavafall, I thought it was cool.
>>577031298To be fair, it's a lot of fun to mess around with your own projects. I can easily see how that would rekindle his interest in the game
>>577033926I still want a shield bash attack that can stun enemies. I might actually use shields then, if they can interrupt creepers, instead of always carrying a totem because why not
>>577067821>Survival becoming duller because of choices you make doesn't make it any less of a sandbox game. You thinking your way is the most fun way to play doesn't mean the game's not a sandbox.I think you completely misunderstood what I wrote if you think that's what I was claiming.
>>577071395I suppose I did. I'm ESL after all. So what did you claim?
>>577033514When I came back to MC after like a 6-7 years away, I didn't build any farms either. I had fun with manually harvesting wheat and slowly building and decorating a mansion for myself. But then I started getting fed up with manually composting all the seeds and learned about hoppers. From there I picked up enough redstone knowledge to automatically harvest my wheat, and over the course of a few years I reached a point where I now build massive farms for no other reason than that I enjoy doing so. I never *needed* to make a farm, I simply ended up wanting to. I think farms make the game better, but there's always going to be idiots who try to copy trends instead of experiencing something for themselves
>>577072019Put some effort in.
>>577068365really nice job anon>Also, what are (You)r favorite soundtrack picks?i play with music turned off. always have. i can appreciate the soundtrack, i just never liked them in game

>>577038042I added a recipe to "un-dye" terracotta using ghast tears purely so I'd have a reason to build a ghast farm. No regrets
>>577052795If you're talking collecting resources, you could try adding something like Fortune for non-ores. If, through some expensive recipe or rare drop, you could get Abundance, which gives a chance to double blocks you mine, that'd be a good way of rewarding manual labor. Maybe have it not affect ore and minerals blocks, since they're already boosted by Fortune
>>577074917>erm ye survival sandbox and sandbox games are totally identical bro. GMOD has the same game design constraints as Valheim alright man!! Retard.
>>577075756i wondered about something like that, the only problem i can think of is since something like a log just drops itself, if you mine a log with your abundance axe, it drops two logs, then you can place those and break them to get four logs, and so on. its basically just a duping machine
>>577075820Not all sandbox games have to be identical, anon. The definition of sandbox is very loose. Like sand
>>577076491Yeah almost like there is a whole genre of "survival sandbox" games like I already fucking said retard. Try to actually what people say next time.
finally got a place set up for some farmers. nothing fancy but does the job. now i can stay topped up on my favourite vegan food, just dont tell the matchafags how im getting my emeralds
>>577052802this is a really good argument for farms. you put in time, effort, and materials into building the farm, and you spend more time operating the farm to get your resources. you exchange a lot of time and effort (and the learning required to operate the farm and fix it when/if it breaks) for the privilege of getting to easily acquire large amounts of the material the farm is for without needing to acquire it the slower, more manual way. If survival minecraft was ACTUALLY like the sandbox mode of those games you were describing, where you get infinite resources for free with no effort put in, then you might have a point. But bashing farms because they allow you to put effort in and be rewarded for it is like bashing iron armor or an iron sword instead of your fists for fighting mobs. "Tsk, might as well play creative, why should the game give you options to let you have an easier time at combat?". It's just silly.
>>577076767And Minecraft fits that box you mongYou can do whatever with the tools you are given. There is no endgame. There is no story. You can make the farms and be as efficient as can be, or you can choose not to and just fuck about. That is what defines a sandbox. You not liking that farms are the ''meta'' does not matter

I had a dream last night that Mojang created the sex update, but they called it the Sextant Update, where they removed F3, and added a Orientation villager profession with the new sextant tool crafted with a spyglass and comparator, as well as a new star texture for night with constellations. By looking at certain stars at certain times the player could get their world angle. Waking up I realized it's totally an update Notch would have done for the lulz fifteen years ago, and I'm sad Microsoft won't let Minecraft have fun anymore.
>>577084993Oh.
>>577085130I'm confused. Where's the sex? You promised me sex.I liked what you described, but still, no sex...
Is there a faster way of doing this? I don't see any mod that allows you to drop an entire stack in the composter and get the correct amount of bonemeal out.
>>577079581>If survival minecraft was ACTUALLY like the sandbox mode of those games you were describing then you might have a pointI'm not saying that its like true sandboxes like GMOD - infact I said the opposite its a survival sandbox more akin to Valheim and that that receiving infinite resources is not justifiable by calling it a sandbox BECAUSE it is not pure sandbox like GMOD. Survival mode is a survival game at its core, moreso than a sandbox. Which is why you can die and why you have to harvest resources rather than just getting them for free like creative mode or pulling up a GMOD menu and spawning shit. The fact that there is a tiny buy in to farms and you have to spend 10 minutes building it to get infinite resources doesn't justify their existence. Especially since 99% of people are just copying a farm design and/or reading mechanics off the wiki.>"Tsk, might as well play creative, why should the game give you options to let you have an easier time at combat? Its not like that because crafting a sword or armor does not completely invalidate a big part of the gameplay loop. Building an iron farm does - which is the problem I described. You never have to go caving for an important resource ever again.A better example would be if eating the dragon egg gave you infinite health and creative flight forever so you never had to worry about dying from taking damage because hey its a sandbox bro its just a tool! You put effort in and got a reward out! But obviously having infinite health and creative flight would invalidate so much of the survival aspect of the game. >>577079584>And Minecraft fits that box you mongYeah that’s why I fucking said that survival mode was a survival sandbox, did you even read the post?>You not liking that farms are the ''meta'' does not matterYeah retard, I never said it did. Me liking or not liking something was not a factor in the post. Try to actually read what people write dumbfuck.

so I built a fake mountain around my ominous bottle farm on an anarchy server and then submerged it in water, but now the spawn rates of pillagers are at like 30-40% of what it should be in open air... anyone know why? there are no places for pillagers to spawn above and afaik the spawning area should be centered around the tower anyway
Guys, hear me out...InfiniteMiningDimension(Containing horrors beyond my comprehension.)The dimension resets itself between each trip.Keep it or leave it?
>>577088276no as someone will find how to minmax it and it will just turn into a farm
>>577088474Well I'm not trying to kill farms, I'm trying to give a decent alternative to people who don't want to make farms. This way they don't have to travel that far away from home, they land directly in a cave with a higher ore distribution than in the overworld, but they take more risks because mobs there are harder.
>>577087619>Building an iron farm doesbuilding farms does not invalidate parts of the gameplay loop, it allows you to choose which parts of the gameplay loop you'd like to spend more time and effort doing. mining or building. if you'd rather spend more time building, you build an iron farm. >A better example would be if eating the dragon egg gave you infinite health and creative flight forever so you never had to worry about dying from taking damage because hey its a sandbox bro its just a toolyou're just completely disingenuous and retarded i dont really know what else to tell you. do you think getting full netherite armor and resistance 2 beacons is cheating because you basically can't die? do you think collecting lots of totems of undying is cheating because you basically can't die? are you retarded? do you need to be forced to do tedious activities over and over in order to play the game because it's part of the gameplay loop and you can never ever spend that time being creative instead?
>>577088276i'd be pretty for this, mostly. i dont think it resetting every trip would be very good or minecrafty, the chance of someone leaving important things there in chests (or even worse, dying there and losing all of their things) would be too high. You should be able to reset it willingly by throwing a diamond in the portal or something, something you can't do accidentally but it's important you can do it when you've mined out all the areas near you in the dimension thoroughly so it can keep it's place as mining near you without needing to go out thousands of blocks. Maybe make mobs spawn at every light level, or at light levels below 7 or something like they used to so it's harder or impossible to set up a proper outpost there or a tunnel bore (thus incentivizing the use of the reset feature), but if some dedicated autists CAN do it despite that it would be cool to see, because options are good.
>>577089848>it allows you to choose which parts of the gameplay loop you'd like to spend more time and effort doing. It lets you choose between infinite AFK iron forever for free or having to spend time caving and mining, fighting monsters and actually playing the game. WOW what an interesting choice I wonder what literally everyone will choose. Let me play survival but let me choose to turn off all the survival aspects and justify it by saying its a hecking sandbox! (even though its a survival sandbox, not just like GMOD where you can do anything)> forced to do tedious activities over and over in order to play the game because it's part of the gameplay loop and you can never ever spend that time being creative instead?Yes, welcome to survival sandbox games. Its quite literally the point of playing survival instead of creative. You have to gather resources to earn your builds. If you don't want tedious resource gathering then why not play creative mode genuinely? You could spend more time building and being creative. Why warp survival into something its not by demanding you get infinite resources for literally nothing? You call me disingenuous for saying infinite health and creative flight but you would be defending it with the exact same arguments just like you are defending fucking totems.
>>577094012>You have to gather resources to earn your builds.Yeah, I gathered resources to build an iron farm, or a gold farm, or a cobble farm, and then i built them, and now i can get lots of resources for builds that way. It's pretty fun. I'm playing this survival sandbox game by using the tools it provides me to make cool contraptions to build more cool contraptions and vanity builds. It's fun, you should try it sometime. >actually playing the game.wait, are you saying building isn't playing the game? that's weird, i thought that was the entire point of this game. huh. i'm not playing the game because i'm playing it differently from you? if you just want cock and ball torture you can force that upon yourself, the game allows you to do that. it's a sandbox, afterall. others can use that sandbox to skip or avoid the cock and ball torture.>If you don't want tedious resource gathering then why not play creative mode genuinely?there's no reason to build or design cool farms for resources in creative. there's no reason to design cool teleportation or other transportation infrastructure in creative. pushing survival to its limits is fun.

>>577094414>are you saying building isn't playing the game?No I'm saying AFKing for resources isn't playing the game. By definition.> i'm not playing the game because i'm playing it differently from you? No because leaving your PC on and walking away is not playing the game.>f you just want cock and ball torture you can force that upon yourselfThat's the problem. You shouldn't need to self impose challenge in a survival game because a bunch of retards want to play creative in survival.>there's no reason to design cool teleportation or other transportation infrastructure in creative.Yeah the reason to design these things in survival is because survival has limitations so why do you want to remove all limitations and play creative in survival with infinite resources for free? It makes no sense. You want your builds to feel earned and useful by having to gather resources yourself and then you choose to skip the gathering resources yourself stage thus making them not really earned. Why does spending 10 minutes setting up a farm make you feel like infinite iron is remotely a fair payoff?
>>577096249Ok, so if I'm building my castle while near my iron farm am I playing the game then? Ok, if I'm in the process of building the farm am I playing the game then? >Yeah the reason to design these things in survival is because survival has limitations so why do you want to remove all limitations and play creative in survival with infinite resources for free?I don't want to remove all limitations and play creative in survival. I want to collect resources and build farms that allow me to collect large amounts of resources for larger projects.>You want your builds to feel earned and useful by having to gather resources yourself and then you choose to skip the gathering resources yourself stage thus making them not really earned.I'm spending effort to set up farms and learn how they work in order to gather resources to build things (building is a tedious and difficult endeavor in of itself). Smelting raw iron into iron ingots is a game mechanic and is earned. Is killing a zombie for an iron ingot (a game mechanic) allowed in your eyes?Is killing iron golems for iron (a game mechanic) allowed in your eyes?Or the fact that villagers spawn iron golems (a game mechanic) and killing those for iron, is that allowed?Crops grow automatically without you needing to do anything. Do you disallow yourself from using crops because you're not playing the game while they grow? You are genuinely an insufferable retard. Go play matcha flavored and then go to reddit instead of returning here.
>>577030913i spawn egged him for the final screenshot then he butted me into my own lava trap. a victim of my own hubris. added another stalker (or stalkers? ooooooh) and changed the gun mod to something that seems a little less grindy and annoying so gonna give it another run. plus it's fun to use guns i actually own in minecraft. upped the spawn rates and will be allowing them to spawn in all dimensions so we'll see how it goes. goal is to of course kill them and beat the game this time
>>577052802The accidental genius of Minecraft is the progression from doing everything by hand to automating it, and the fact that you never have to go that far unless you want to. If you just want to build some houses, a few roads, maybe a minecart track or two, then you don't need farms. If you, on the other hand, want to build a giant castle with an automated storage system and auto-crafters to keep your chests full, you might very well need ten thousand hoppers and the iron it takes to craft them. I agree with what you're saying in essence, I just don't think it applies to farms in Minecraft
>>577096750>Is killing a zombie for an iron ingot (a game mechanic) allowed in your eyes?>Is killing iron golems for iron (a game mechanic) allowed in your eyes?Yes because you're doing it yourself, at risk of your own health, at the cost of durability of your weapons instead of getting infinite amounts for absolutely nothing.>Crops grow automatically without you needing to do anything. You harvest crops yourself and replant them yourself rather than just getting infinite crops forever because you planted a seed once.Do you really not see the difference? These are examples of you actively playing the game, not just setting up a money printer once and getting infinite money forever.
>>577076028For sure, but there's no way that I know of to separate player-placed blocks from world-gen blocks. That's why it should have something like a 5-10% chance, so it's not really worth standing around mining the same block over and over. It's better to go mine like normal, and return home with 10% extra blocks
>>577097617>The accidental genius of Minecraft is the progression from doing everything by hand to automating itThis only works well in modded Minecraft where automation comes at a cost. Like spending fuel to power machines. Factorio does the same thing in a much healthier and well designed way.
>>577098523Automation does come at a cost. The cost to set it up and the time cost of afking at it or being near it. That's good enough. There's no reason to constantly drain resources for no reason. And, if you want that, you have all the things that can only be farmed by using bonemeal. So if you want a lot of tall flowers you need to set up the tall flower farm (very simple), and also a bonemeal farm. That's neat.
>>577087958I think sky access has an effect on some farms, and possibly also the heightmap. As in, if you place blocks above their spawning spots, that can lower the rates. You could try removing the block directly about the outpost and see if it helps. I could also be completely wrong, it's certainly not my forte
>>577087958yeah the spawning algorithm goes off the highest block placed at an xy point. adding a single block far above a spawning platform can dramatically reduce the rates of spawning, so covering it in a mountain would do that. just the blocks idrectly above where pillagers spawn matter. it makes me cringe anytime the artsy builder block vomiters cover mob farms in a massive tower or pyramid or something, because they have just murdered the rates of an optimized farm.
>>577098523The cost is building the farm, in terms of time, effort, and materials. I actually think Factorio misses the mark in a way, since you're always automating everything in that game. Going from manual labor to factory overseer is a large part of what I like about Minecraft, whereas Factorio feels more like a job in logistics. I get that some people like that about Factorio, but it's why I never bothered beating it. Once I was done designing a factory that had a 1:1 ratio of all the science pack, and I really just had to get more iron and copper, and sit back until the rocket was researched and built, I got bored and stopped playing
>>577098729>The cost to set it up and the time cost of afking at it or being near it.The cost to set up an iron farm is virtually nothing and the cost of running it is literally nothing.>There's no reason to constantly drain resources for no reason. Its pretty much the fundamental principle of Minecraft. Like you have to spend resources to get anything but the most basic of resources. You have to spend fuel to refine resources.>So if you want a lot of tall flowers you need to set up the tall flower farm (very simple)This is the sort of automation I'm perfectly fine with (if you don't attach a bonemeal farm) because the bonemeal is basically fuel for a machine). Like feeding inputs and fuel automatically into a furnace. So you'd go out and gather fuel to harness to spend on automated processes like this - its still active gameplay involving the player even if the process itself is largely hands off. If iron farms had a cost like this I would be okay with them because they would involve the player input in some way. Infinite free iron forever with no player input or anything just doesn't make sense in a survival game.>>577099394I suppose the difference with Factorio is that you can't build cool structures for the sake of it or go exploring like Minecraft to fill up time like that.
>>577099161that's what I thought, but somehow I got the rates up to like 60-70% by making a floating platform

If you had a gun that just instantly killed every enemy on the map and you justify its existence in the game because "bro don't remove it I just like looking at the scenery without any enemies, people enjoy the game in different ways bro!". But its very existence in the game trivialises it for everyone else.Yes I'm sure you like infinite free resources at zero cost or effort by abusing exploits but it doesn't belong in the game. >b-b-but I like designing farms99% of people that use farms do not make their own designs, they just copy shit from a wiki or video. no snapshot today, something broke apparently…
>>577153096If I follow somebody else's guide for building a roof or simulating an architectural style is that also a stain on the game?
>>577160168No because that’s just aesthetic and provides no ingame functional value moreso than a dirt hut. It doesn't affect the gameplay loop in any way. And the problem is not that tutorials exist, its more that everyone has to follow external guides and resources to unlocking functionality as strong as an infinite free iron printer. Anyone can build a roof, even if its not pretty. Whereas something like even a basic mob farm requires abstruse technical knowledge on mob spawning and pathfinding AI that you read from a wiki rather than from naturally playing the game.
>>577153096I'll agree with you that copying and pasting farm designs with no idea how they work is a soulless way to play, but I would say the same for people who copy and paste other people's builds. if you copy a farm design, but you have an understanding of how and why it works, I don't see an issue, though I still prefer to design my own farms even if they are less efficient. that being said, I will never agree with you that all farms should be removed. just don't engage with farms if you don't like them. simple as. now if you're just saying that some farms are too overpowered and should be nerfed, we can come to an agreement there. it's still funny to me how Mojang's attempt to nerf iron farms made them easier and more accessible than ever to build>>577162280all those behaviors can be easily learned through playing the game and testing in survival or creative. in fact, that's all how it was originally figured out. it's not our fault you are too retarded to understand basic spawning mechanics

>>577168414>but you have an understanding of how and why it worksBecause the only reason you understand how it works is because you had to use external resources like the wiki or videos to understand the mechanics of how it works rather than learning them through gameplay.> I will never agree with you that all farms should be removedThey either need to be removed or substantially reworked. I think that mob farms are typically a symptom of other bad game design problems eg exp farms for mending/enchanting and how much iron people need vs how much you can reasonably get via caving. So if these are addressed then a mob farm would not feel like a mandatory part of survival. This is why I also think the "just don't engage with farms bro" solution doesn't work. Because if you want a lot of hoppers or prismarine etc you need to have mob farms as there is no alternative. But Mojang will never add healthier alternative solutions while mob farms exist. And they simply shouldn't be free to run forever. The whole setting up a farm once for infinite of a resource is bad. In modded minecraft where you can set up machines that produce infinite iron at the cost of fuel its fine.>all those behaviours can be easily learned through playing the game and testing in survival or creative.I don't think its reasonable to expect the average player to test out shit like iron golem spawn mechanics in survival without prior knowledge. I bet a lot of people don't even know iron golems respawn in villages, let alone shit like villages being scared by zombies.>it's not our fault you are too retarded to understand basic spawning mechanicsIts the fault of the game for not making mechanics clear. Or rather, mechanics around something like iron golem spawns are purposely not presented to the player because the player is not supposed to abuse them for infinite free iron forever. I don't think anyone is retarded for not automatically figuring out obscure mechanics like that on their own.

How would you even do that without heavily reworking things like mob spawns or how dungeon spawners work?>Its the fault of the game for not making mechanics clearMost games do not explain granular mechanics like mob spawns or shop mechanics and fans typically do peak into the backend to learn about these things. Whinging about these things in minecrap, a game which has always had fans pushing the boundaries of the engine is ridiculous. People were making boat elevators before the water physics got changed. Before powered rails nobody actually made "proper" rail systems they just used the minecart slingshots. People were making functional computers in beta builds of the game. Humans are problem solvers, we will see an obstacle and say "what's the best way to get around that" get over it

YOU are stupid if you think otherwise.>Okay so if people are making farms because resource gathering is tedious why is the answer to remove the ability to farmFor all the reasons I already stated? Read the prior posts explaining it in detail.>How would you even do that without heavily reworking things like mob spawns or how dungeon spawners work? One simple solution would be that certain mobs like the iron golem wouldn't drop loot unless its directly killed by the player. Similar fix to what they did with exp.>Most games do not explain granular mechanics like mob spawnsIn most games its not a supposedly intended feature for you to abuse said mob spawns so its not necessary. Its the very important difference.>Before powered rails nobody actually made "proper" rail systems they just used the minecart slingshots.Yeah and they removed minecart slingshots and added rails because relying on an exploit for such a fundamental thing was bad (GEE I WONDER WHAT ELSE WE COULD APPLY THAT TO)>Humans are problem solvers, we will see an obstacle and say "what's the best way to get around that" get over itIts the job of developers to make sure these solutions are healthy for the game. I expect players to try to find every possible exploit for an advantage, but any decent developers would patch "infinite money glitch" exploits.Imagine you're playing a city building sandbox where the gameplay is balancing the economy and services while trying to build out your city and someone figures out hey if I build these specific buildings in a specific configuration it gives me 10,000 times the money of an entire city - you wouldn't go "ERM JUST DONT USE IT IF YOU DONT LIKE IT ITS HUMAN INGENUITY MAAAN SOME PEOPLE LIKE TO PLAY THE GAME DIFFERENT TO YOU!!!" because it so obviously trivialises such an important part of the game.

>>577192152That's also my guess, but the fix they came up with is fucking shit. Here's another allowing players to ACTUALLY discover this by themselves:Frogs have a 2% chance of eating your nearby torches every [blank] ticks, dropping a froglight in the process.
>>577192152That was the plan. In fact, the splash art of that update has a frog seemingly about to eat something that can't be seen. There's also space for the deep dark which remains empty
I really didn't want to install a resource pack but I detest the vanilla paintings bar a few exceptions. Looking around I can't seem to find any decent painting pack that fits this build, either. It's either all mixed styles or it just straight up looks like ass. Anyone know some good medieval style packs?
>>577192201>Vintage StoryHow is that game compared to Minecraft?
>>577193898Oops, turns out I misremembered. The deep dark is there, but they added a desert on the right side instead of the birch forest that never got updated. I knew there was something about a removed biome. The frog is in the top left quarter
>>577193938Much harder. My first time playing I was killed by a mouflon. It bodied me in the middle of the night as I was passing by.You have to manage your hunger all the fucking time, but animals spot you from very, very far. The ones that don't have garbage drops that will barely refill your hunger. You get hungry fast.Food spoils. You need to build cellars. Craft crocks. Learn to cook. Local temperatures have an impact on food spoilage rates and your own body temperature, of course. Cold can fuck you up.There are seasons. Plant crops. Hope they survive the winter. Fence everything off, or fucking rabbits will eat your crops.Mining is a whole lot of guesswork. It's fun when it works, tiring when it doesn't.I'm currently being filtered by the Copper Age because getting to the Bronze Age involves a lot of mining. The game includes horrors beyond your comprehension. Every so often some sort of "blood moon" will trigger, but honestly it's more boring than it is fun.The world's great, though. While you feel like a caveman, the world is somewhat post-apocalyptic with ruins to prove it.

>>577199762>you shouldn't be able to build giant rail lines without some grindingniggas say this then wonder why mojang hates minecarts
>>577197697Iron is definitely useful for decorative purposes and sorting systems aren't cheating. They don't break any rules of the game.
>>577200294>They don't break any rules of the game.neither do iron farms. they just use intended game mechanics in unintended ways. if you want to talk about nerfing iron farms because they are too OP, sure I've already agreed there, but there is nothing to remove as the mechanics are working as intended
>>577199762But anon, I want it all. Chains, lanterns, rails, hoppers. Armor. So I'll make an iron farm, because it's the easiest way to get iron. Again, it's only human. And you know, I'm not against farms at all, but I'd rather the game offer some sort of quarry system. Something a bit more involved than "well I guess I'll AFK for hours now."
>>577200632>neither do iron farms. they just use intended game mechanics in unintended ways.Yes they do. Read the entire prior conversation.
>>577199762>but you shouldn't be able to build giant rail lines without some grinding>advocates building a farm for infinite free iron forever to completely avoid said grind
>>577200771you can already build quarry systems >>577200830no they don't >>577201221building a good iron used to be a massive grind. it's not my fault Mojang made iron farms easier to build when attempting to nerf them. I've advocated for the old iron golem mechanics to come back ever since they changed because building iron farms was much more interesting
>>577202319>you can already build quarry systemsWhat current "quarry system" is good enough to allow the player to get iron in a renewable way? I sure hope you're not talking about taking out whole chunks.
>>577202675>I sure hope you're not talking about taking out whole chunks.yes I am
>>577202319>it's not my fault Mojang made iron farms easierNoone's blamed blamed you. But it still stands that iron farms are unhealthy for the game and a more intuitive implementation of gathering large amounts of iron lategame would be better for the game than exploiting hidden mechanics.
>>577202863While AFKing is no fun, taking out whole chunks isn't either.I said "a bit more involved", not "mind-numbingly boring."Alright. I'll try to explain what would, IMO, serve as an OK alternative to farms.Picrel is from a Vintage Story mod. See that formation? With the plugs inside the rock? I want that.Have some spawn naturally with a hammer nearby, so players can experiment with it.Hit the plugs with your hammer. Once the whole cube has been properly weakened, drop "rubble".Now, we need a way to "extract" ore nuggets from these rubbles. We need to crush them. So maybe we need a new workstation that will use the hammer.Once the rubble has been smashed, you get gravel + a random ore (or jack shit).Drops would need to be balanced to be fair. Not too slow to come by nor too fast.It doesn't have to be on par with an iron farm, it just has to be "fun" somewhat. It would work with any kind of stone, of course, and the player would be able to craft the plugs.Maybe some stones will have a higher chance of dropping iron. Fuck if I know.
>>577204013Fuck me. There. Hotlinking failed for some reason.
>>577203247>than exploiting hidden mechanicsyou keep saying this, but the mechanics are not some esoteric knowledge that is impossible to figure out intuitively. villagers spawn iron golems when there are enough villagers around in what is considered a village, and that process is sped up when they are in danger to try and defend the villagers. it's not complicated or unintuitive>>577204013I was talking about automated slime block quarries, not digging out chunks by hand
>>577204507>automated slime block quarriesWell at least that's more reasonable. Not something I'd personally be able to create without a guide, though.
>>577203247Villages have iron golems spawn naturally, there's a hint to them having some kind of interaction. Even when it dies a new one can randomly appear without you doing anythingHonestly iron golem spawning has a bigger hint to it existing than the end does. Absolutely nothing in the game leads you to believe the end exists, you have to figure out the ender eye recipe or cheat with the quest book. Even if you find the stronghold randomly you wont be know how do fill the portal in. If you weren't aware the end portal and deep dark portal are no different, they might/might not be a new dimension you don't know
>>577207702>cheat with the quest book
>>577204507>that is impossible to figure out intuitivelyIts not "impossible" but its very unlikely that 99% of people are ever going to figure that out without a guide. Most people never even realise iron golems can respawn let alone that there is a specific threshold let alone that scaring villagers is even a mechanic. And then knowing the very specific positions they spawn to funnel them into a death trap. I'm not saying this is impossible to figure out, its just very unlikely which is a problem when the reward is so insanely powerful and game breaking.>>577207702>Honestly iron golem spawning has a bigger hint to it existing than the end doesCollect a single ender pearl and you get a recipe for an eye of ender which directly leads you to the stronghold with a portal with eyes in the frame. You'd have more of a point with the Nether because I think lighting the Nether portal is pretty badly telegraphed even with broken portals being a thing. The fact that something as important as the Nether is poorly indicated to the player is a problem in of itself, its not a good justification for more bullshit wikifaggot mechanics.
>>577207928I mean in the fact it will show you what can be crafted as soon as you pick up both an enderpearl and blaze powder, you don't even need both on hand for it to be logged. You'll miss it too unless you see the pop up top right when you pick up the 2nd item, or if you don't browse through the crafting log anyway. So yeah unless you essentially "cheat" with the crafting recipe book to see it has the same appearance as the filled in portal ones, there's no way of you knowing about the end. Meanwhile the nether has portals littering the landscape with blocks/items in the chest to "rebuild it". There's no such hints towards the end it's one of the most unobtrusive things in minecraft, no wonder the achievement rate for the end is so low people can't find the fucking thing without 3rd party tutorials
>>577210717>Collect a single ender pearl and you get a recipe for an eye of ender which directly leads you to the stronghold with a portal with eyes in the frame.Few people will recognize it does something like that. There's so many random crafts in this game with no apparent meaning initially like the brush, firework stars, half the redstone stuff, recovery compass, end crystals(need obsidian), conduit. You'd have to be inquisitive enough to see there's a hint to the end through the enderpearl directionAlso half the time the damn thing will float through blocks that are nearby when they try it and they'll lose it. Might even break completely too instead of dropping so most players will give up on finding the end dimension
>>577212665>You'd have to be inquisitive enough to see there's a hint to the end through the enderpearl directionCompared to shit like spawn mechanics and AI pathfinding which are entirely obfuscated from the player the fact that the eyes of ender are an item deliberately placed into the game in of itself indicates it has a purpose even if its purpose is not immediately clear. All the random crafts in the game have a purpose. Using the item a couple times and seeing it float to the same direction is a pretty decent hint its pointing somewhere.I've played Minecraft since alpha for thousands of hours and even I had no idea that villagers in danger had an effect on iron golem spawn rate for the longest time until I looked into how iron farms worked. Its just not a mechanic you're ever going to figure out via normal play. Its not something you find out via curiosity, you find it out by like autism graphing spawn rates or looking though the code.

>>577215362
>>577203247>more intuitive implementation of gathering large amounts of iron lategameThe big iron veins. Just mine them. The tuff, that they also give you, is useful now as well.
>>577191974it's an auto include in any modpack i play but i've never used it in vanilla, fighting janky and annoying mobs to try and transport them is an integral vanilla gameplay mechanic that this kinda gets rid of. it's fun to stack mobs on top of each other though and it's silly holding things like foxes in your hands. perhaps if you just want it to move around chests easier you can use it for that, because that is a really nice feature.
>>577221597The tuff is the reason you should be going for them. That and calcite are too rare for how good they look
>>577230662tuff isn't the worst, mining for deepslate which i use more of than tuff also happens to get a shit ton of tuff. also, trial chambers have quite a bit of tuff. i'd still much prefer if there was a renewable way to get tuff but it's still relatively reasonably usable at large scales. calcite though, calcite is way way too rare to not be renewable in some way. and collecting it at a decent scale involves scarring up cool mountain ranges which is lame.
