That explains it. A creeper exploded nearby but I didn't hit it and I wasn't close to it, but it was between me and a skeleton, so that might be why it exploded and fucked up my forest. I'm installing an anti-creeper grief mod.

I wish there is an actual reason to not going mining at night. It is super cozy spending time at your base, but the meta is mine at night and homestead at day for maximum efficiency.

Anyway here are a few criticisms from someone who's actually played the demo:
- worldgen is boring as shit. Not once did I see a landmark that made me go "man, I wanna go there". And it feels way too flat.
- dungeons are too repetitive
- the game punishes the player for mining because there is no fucking way to stop mobs from spawning underground

A few highlights:
- the radial menu is GREAT. Set it to "stairs" and all the blocks you'll place from then on will be stairs.
- the ability to change the color of every block is great, too

Neutral stuff:
- it's basically 3D Terraria so it's a lot more RPG-y than Minecraft.

I expect creativefags to like it and adventurefags who need to be railroaded into an adventure.

probably not. they already can only pick up natural blocks like grass and sand. so if you wanted to griefproof your lawn you'd have to dig up your entire lawn and then place it back again which seems like exponentially more effort than just fixing the couple blocks that get griefed occasionally

What FOV do you guys play at? I'm at 100, but I keep my 27" monitor ~60 cm (2 ft) from my face, so even if the image stretches a little bit at the borders, it doesn't look weird and it's not really noticeable while playing.

I used to laugh pro at FPS players that kept their monitors super close to their faces, but now I see it's not as crazy as it looks.

I'm honestly not a fan of that one. There's a charm to fitting existing blocks together, like how old games used a limited color palette and still created something beautiful. If you can just paint any block in any color, the blocks themselves don't matter any more. You might as well import textures straight from Photoshop

I haven't played it yet (assuming there's even a demo to try), so I don't know for sure. It might work out really well in practice, but I like the Lego feel of Minecraft. If I could spawn in custom blocks by picking a texture and a color, I don't think I'd be building too much. Or maybe I could just ignore the painting feature altogether

we need more unique weapons/tools lile the mace that use breeze rods or blaze rods as the handles. maybe the blaze rod could be used for a pickaxe that automatically smelts anything you mine

You need a very specific tool to do that, and I'm pretty sure it will be gated behind several villager trades.
In the demo there's a workstation that works as a shop, replacing villager trades (villagers aren't in the demo).
