That's kind of irrelevant considering sloppers all shill their slop lifestyle for free, but yeah it's more likely it's fake considering everything about vibecoders has proven to be fake.

The intended result whether a bot, shill or slopper preaching their new religion is the same, which is to cause plebs to think

>>
>>577226474
The second vibe sloppers install LLM coding tools they are already convinced they are on their way to making games and millions of dollars. By the time reality sets in they already spent months in here baiting arguments about AI and insisting they are making something. The reality is too much for them to face. So they just stay and never make games. This isn't new of course, agdg has filtered and trapped countless nodev schizos over the years. The speed at which AI produced these schizos though is somewhat shocking. It speed runs them into being a crashout faildev.

I would say it's honestly just as difficult with the AI, just faster, quicker answers to solutions. Games are so complex, they need to be designed with care outside of LLM, and the AI needs to be guided by someone who at least has a rudimentary understanding of the codebase.

Gamedevs can make a game with AI. It's trivial, but there's a reason we don't. And sloppers will never make a game, that's correct. I suppose we can give them another 2 years here, we just need to keep waiting for them to catch up so they can "replace" us like they said they would for the past 3 years.

Do the beginner tutorial for Unity, Godot or other engines and it shows you all of these things in 1 hour.

"make pong" is crabbing. It's also used as an insult to attack anyone who wants to discuss game mechanics or ideas, because the crab is implying they don't know how to make a game yet and aren't allowed to discuss game design here until they can theoretically make pong.
>>

I prefer it when temperatures are lower since these types do not party as much, it is easier to sleep, and if I want to dev I just need to put on a sweater. Oh and to make it worse, if the AC is on in Summer, my PC is in a spot where I get blasted with cold air. It makes it hard to dev when the cold is distracting me.

I mean I "sorta did" because it's not even a feature that would've been hard to implement or affect any engine logic, it's just syntactic sugar to not have to use RemoveChild and then AddChild over and over again, which happened often enough in my code to warrant it in my opinion. But yeah I'm just sorta rustled at the interaction and how confident the moderator was that this is an edge case that nobody else is ever going to need.

If you think simply putting your game on a site or service will get you players you should educate yourself on marketing. Hoping the algorithms show your game to people is not a strategy. Market your game by showing it to people.

If you don't do this, your game will flop. If you make your own website, you will still need to market it in order to get people to look at your games. Might as well just market your games.

People trust those services. They won't trust your website. You think enough people will visit your website to make money on ads, that would require millions of visitors. How are you going to acquire them without marketing your website?

Might as well just market your games.

>I have no traffic on itch.io and no money to put random projects on steam.
Show your games to people who want them, then maybe they will go to your itch. Make a game people want enough and they will pay you for the game. Save $100 on itch sales then go on steam.

This probably sounds like a lot to you, too much, so you will continue to fantasize about some other solution that doesn't require you to make a good game and market it.
>making super mario mmo, or cloning NES shit as webassembly
Like that.

If you really dislike being fat, you should fast. Look up snake juice fasting protocol, do it for a few days, a few weeks. You will see the light at the end of the tunnel. There is no other way. Fasting is basically illegal in the mainstream because if everyone did it we wouldn't have an obesity crisis to boon the medical industry and people would spend less money on food, affecting the economy. It's a spiritual booster and makes people consoom less.

You will also lose your craving for sweets.

>>
>>577253092
Understandable, I've done it the slow and proper way before as well but it didn't spiritually change me, I was still a fat person inside. Fasting seems to have changed that. Food no longer has any kind of hold on me, and if I do eat what feels like a lot, it's really nothing when I count the calories. It just feels like a lot.

Anyway if you do fast you won't have anything on your plate to take pictures of. Just keep going.

Depends on the game.
Rocket League is the one on the left but it's only gameplay and visuals. There's no lore whatsoever as to why you're playing car soccer, and if there was that'd be retarded.

Most AAA games are the one on the right but the foundation is paper thin and hasn't been innovated on or improved in 20 years, meanwhile the visuals consists of ugly women but enough spectacle to keep the cattle engaged, and the story is probably some girlboss berating the main character for being male.

Gameplay is actually a decent thing to focus on due to the lack of innovation in AAA, measurable improvements to existing systems might draw attention

They had a great concept and demonstrated it. 80% of what they wrote in that OP seems off the mark though. Yeah, already mentioned in this thread. Looks neat. I know of maybe one other vibecoded game that did well but that's about it. 2 games in 2 years. The public is simply not warming up to AI the way it has been promised they would, nor are actual AI gamedevs releasing enough games. At least nothing that you actually hear about.
>>
>>577265836
I think they're just sharing an observation on a forum. There's plenty of 'gurus' here too.

Also getting a few views doesn't mean you're making a successful game, there's plenty of games which do numbers in videos and then flop or have middling success. Games like Paper Sky for example, someone might watch a video of the paper plane flying through a level, but they won't buy the game... also damn that's not out yet?

I just thought it was an interesting observation.
>>
>>577266936
>Step 1 - Choose a popular, classic genre for your game - FPS, RTS, or RPG.

>Step 2 - Find and play the best games in the popular genre, if you haven't already.

>Step 3 - Study the game's mechanics - and brainstorm ways to improve them.

>CAUTION:
>Do not think "How can I stand out by adding a quirky/unique twist to the formula".

This is not an observation. This is a guide.

Indeed the standards for this sort of game are pretty low. Open world crafty survival genre is evergreen and for the no-combat comfy types there's not a lot of options so all the half-decent ones are popular. With the right skill set and a year or two of dev time it wouldn't be that hard to compete in this space. Having no combat makes it way easier since getting combat timed and animated right is about the hardest part for making such a game aside from netcode.

It has combat but Icarus is one of the more popular of the space themed ones and it is a genuine shovelware kusoge that doesn't deserve a single one of the sales it has, its quality is that low. And yet the Icarus devs keep milking retards with overpriced DLC that adds fuck all content.

Enemies can counter attack now, player also can counter with a timed block to stagger enemies and the block needs to be aimed, it's based on whether the attack is aiming for the head and body, might change this to be a difficulty setting though since my old man brain was struggling to keep up with it at times.

That's a neat game. As a trailer it isn't so good. I get that it's focused on the mechanics but I think he should have had a short real gameplay oriented clip at the start to get people engaged.

>Instead, think - "How can I improve on the core mechanics I see in this established formula, even if only by 10%"?
>Now this might sound daunting, but your game doesn't have to be better across all areas (art, music etc). However, if making, say - a First Person Shooter, be sure to ask yourself: "How will my game be better than Call of Duty and Battlefield - even if its better at only one specific aspect. You're better off making a generic game with one clear improvement over the current kings of the genre than a unique derivative that stands out but doesn't try to be better in any particular dimension.
Here's the good point of his "guide". He's making a first person melee game and went all in on how to make that melee interesting. His examples of BF and CoD are a bit off imo since his own approach isn't really comparable but the point stands. Making a hyper focused game like that is a very valid strategy and if you can make that thing something people get excited about you're well on your way to success as long as you can deliver.

similar with games I like, even when there are sequels or prequels. there are games I had hundreds of hours of playtime in that have sequels that I never considered buying
this does not bode well for building on past gamedev successes and cultivating an audience

Around 100 games release on Steam alone EACH DAY.
About 700 games in the week around your release.
AAA release? Successful release AAA or indie, in your genre? BOOM you are done.
Also, not only are you competing with other new releases, but the entire backlog of games on every system a player owns. :)

Take all the "indie success stories" you can think of in the past 10 years and divide it by the number of devs in that time who have tried (again, 100 games a day, 3000 a month) and there's your historical likelihood of "making it."

Steam cut, higher self-employment taxes, no benefits, no retirement, AND to top it all off: Your sales diminish over time, so even if you hit this "mediocrity lottery" you'll have to do it all over again in a couple years.

AI gamedevs (and general software devs) are releasing a ton of stuff with AI assistance. However disclosing AI use is voluntary and will only hurt your product's branding so most people just lie about it since it's so hard to prove.
>>
>>577273504
>The code IS the gameplay.
Let me make this easy for your monkey brain.
You have graphics code (triangle rendering and colors) -> and graphics (actual imagery/models you want displayed) on a higher level.
And you have gameplay code -> and actual gameplay concepts on the higher level.
Nobody cares about the code part as long as the higher level isn't affected too much. Whether the character controller is made by you, bought from a store or made by an AI it doesn't matter if it behaves the same way the GAME DESIGNER intended. Usually the game designer or project lead is in charge of the deciding and making the gameplay, the code monkey just puts what he says in machine code for the PC to understand. You are expendable. We're past the point where programmers matter on an individual level (i.e. Doom era.)

There are responsible ways to use AI. Ideally you understand every piece of code your AI is producing. Ideally you understand how AI thinks so you aren't offloading impossible tasks to it and getting shit results. Otherwise AI should be used as a tool to help you or save you time. I can imagine vibe coding entire games being possible in the future, but it will still require ridiculous amounts of time put into prompting and tweaking things to get something decent unless it's a really simple game.

>deflects to AI
The crux of the argument was that code is not 1 to 1 gameplay, gameplay is something you build with code but it lives on a higher level. If I didn't mention AI in my post and only talked about buying character controllers from the marketplace and hiring freelancers would you even have responded at all?
>>
>>577297390
A lot of retards will claim gameplay is the only thing that matters, and not understand the gameplay relies on non-gameplay elements to complete it.
Original Doom is probably the most solid example of this.

My free crime sandbox game is pretty legit now if anybody remembers me. Got an early wave of players and people assumed it was online and that they could block traffic to piss off other players, which had me pondering how to pull off multiplayer for months. I got multiplayer working (synced visible world almost like Dark Souls ghosts, with certain stuff being locally simulated and PVP being restricted to certain conditions)

There's air-to-air PVP at all times, PVPVE raid zones, a new large city styled after New York, tons of shit

Trying to populate the online right now if anyone's here prowling for games to try. Browser versions are singleplayer

We need to go back to the era of flash games where if an inexperienced dev made a low quality game as a learning project they would release it for free instead of expecting money just because they put effort into something. Many people will look past bugs, bad graphics, most issues really if the game is free and it's a great way to get your name out there for when you're a good enough dev that your games are actually worth something.

In Godot, is there any difference to running battle logic through a generic node with a script attached, with several sub-nodes that also have scripts attached and possible further sub-nodes with scripts - compared to using classes and no nodes? Nodes seem so much simpler for my tard brain.

They're based on a recurring symbol related to Herrko, as a way to tie all the civilizations into a certain connection.
Part of the worldbuilding I'm setting up for them.
It's also something I'm kinda proud of because at some point, you end up with certain design traits and symbols around your characters, that it becomes a bit easier to add stuff because of the established design elements, so things feel like they're part of their respective worlds.
Even though "throwing stuff around and seeing what clicks" is part of how some ideas at first came to be.
>>577156952
I mean, I was always mixing up references, both real life and stuff I like.

>$50k - $100k = 80%

Also I doubt the games making serious money are averaging 1 year development times with only 1 dev making said game.

>>577308642
Stick to nodes if you find them easier to work with.
You can do anything logic related in a script/ refcounted/ resource, too, but there is no real advantage (other than not having to deal with the scene tree, but you don't seem bothered by it)
>>
>>577308863
>>577308915

Thanks. I'm still practicing the basics making a simple RPGmaker style battle scene that itself only holds battle logic and generic placeholders for the scene, while actual content will be loaded from resources / globals / elsewhere. Only stuff in the scene will be static images, UI and small Sprite2D animations, while a bunch of scripts will handle the battle logic, so this shouldn't be too resource intensive. I'll try to wrap my head around nodeless scripting as well later.

if you can make a good enough fork it seems you can milk losers who can't help themselves but give money to everyone.

i will make a game to own the chuds... HAHAHA! YEs
the chuds will be so throughly pwned by my genius tally ho my good squire i see a dragon to slay and that dragon is shiquesha from HR
-- just to reitterate; the chuds. they will be throughly owned. so owned that it might seem somewhat gay -- zesty perhaps but once claude starts working on my masterpiece inspired by nintendo they will know me like a friend

yeah but neither are closed world games, so via the law of excluded middle game suck... unless I'm not considering some kind of quasi or negated state of game world that is either neither closed nor opened or is clopened which by that I mean closed and open not some kind of deranged horse fucking fetish, or maybe some kind of fractional closed-openness?
